I can't guess how many seats but when we were there, it was packed. I didn't any open seats in the theater. The theater is beautiful, with decorations restored to it's opening in 1906. The seats are comfortable and our seats we on the mezzanine levels, center, so our view of the stage was great. America does a good job with their light show, and as I mentioned above, the acoustics are quite good. Like other large theaters, CIBC has a snack and drink stand, and they sell merchandise from the theater and the band. We use a Chase credit card and there was a discount when we got drinks - a surprise. It was a very good experience.

::STORY TIME - LOCK IN::…read more I was 15 when Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness 2 disc set dropped. At the time I was in love with my best friend and we had a thing as teenagers often do. Anyway I got this album, listened to all 2 hours of it, and picked out the songs we'd make out to the following weekend lmaaooo Imagine my surprise shock and horror that on the appointed evening instead of being at my house booed up with me he was in the town next door canoodling with a girl he met at the arcade. Chillleeee. Anyway that was 30 years ago - I grew up to be amazing and he grew up to be a cop. :barf: Despite all of...that... this is still a top 5 album of all time for me - holding court with Third Eye Blind, Stevie Wonder, Bjork, and Snoop Dogg. I never dreamed I would get to hear any of it live. AND YET!! When I heard Billy Corgan was reimagining this as a rock opera - BABY!!! 30 years of memories came flooding back and I had to be there. I went to opening night last week and had a FANTASTIC experience! The seating was plush and comfortable, the sound quality was incredible, and the visuals were sumptuous. Ushers were so helpful and friendly, the bathrooms were busy yet spotless, and customer service was helpful and accommodating. I won't hesitate to return! Also Billy Corgan is larger than life. His voice is still his voice. As a 15yo I could never imagine the treat I would get to experience 30 years later. Fat Things The theatre underwent a seating revamp a few years ago but if you're concerned about width and space you can call customer service for accessible seating. I called and moved from an interior seat on the rear floor to an aisle seat with removable barrier in the same area. So don't be afraid to ask for what you need or think you may need. The cast had one - at most two - actually funny people. I was so disappointed that I raved about this to our guests and no one laughed. We couldn't wait to leave. No wonder the place is less than half full. Please bring back "brown bag foul", more audience participation and less of that final gibberish game that goes on FOREVER. Dennis Watkins' The Magic Parlour -- Chicago…read more What a fantastic experience. If you're looking for something different to do in Chicago, put The Magic Parlour on your list. I'm a hobby magician myself, so I went into the show knowing that sometimes you can recognize the basic principles behind certain effects. But honestly, it doesn't matter. Dennis Watkins is an incredible magician and entertainer, and seeing the show up close is a completely different experience. The show is intimate, funny, entertaining, and incredibly well performed. You're close enough to see everything, which somehow makes it even more impossible. And here's my advice: Don't be the person who spends the entire show trying to figure out how every trick is done. I know you're going to do it anyway. I did too. But at some point, just sit back, enjoy the performance, and let yourself be fooled. That's part of the fun. Even as a hobby magician, I thought it was an amazing show. The combination of magic, storytelling, audience interaction, and Dennis's personality makes for a really memorable Chicago experience. Five stars. Go see it, have a drink, relax, and let the magician do his job. Small bonus out we had the VIP tickets. My wife was very awesome. It's a little intimate setting you get about another 20 to 30 minutes of Magic. Dennis asked for questions you have any doesn't really amazing magic and you get a free drink with a VIP ticket. I have been there for Dennis's solo show with my daughter and cousins and I treated my dad, my mom, and my family to Three Card Monte for his birthday as a way to spend time together. Three Card Monte was where the audience was seated at three tables and three different close up magicians rotated through. The magic was literally happening in front of your eyes! The variety in the three magicians was great--they had a variety of tricks, varying levels of sarcasm and humor, and overall, made it one of the best Sunday evenings I have had! Your ticket comes with a drink ticket--I don't drink, but they made me a mean Shirley Temple. My daughter bought a 2nd one at intermission and it was very reasonably priced. I made sure to have cash to tip my bartender. With Dennis's solo show, there was an option to pay to be a VIP where we got a taste of close up magic right after the general show. It was very cool and I recommend adding it on. If you love magic or even if you just know someone who loves magic, I recommend! A classy venue with top notch entertainment!

One of the founding members is David Schwimmer. You can't beat the location and if you are planning a night on the town or better yet a weekend, you should plan on hitting up one of their shows. It is a small theatre which results in, not a bad seat anywhere in the house. The current show is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Forget Boris Karloff and the many retellings of the story as you have seen the countless movies and television versions. This is a very faithful tale, true to the book and a very stimulating thought provoking version. The ideas of creation from death is handled with great care by the excellent ensemble cast. Shelly's book is the result of a weekend with friends , where each participant was challenged to tell a chilling ghost story. Mary's story found its roots in the practice of grave robbing and selling cadavers for medical research. Her chilling take follows the creator Victor Frankenstein on his quest to cheat death by recreating the spark of life. The cast all play dual roles, the original guests at the party and the major characters in the story. Walter Biggs is challenged with the dual roles of Mary's husband Percy Shelley and the creator Victor Frankenstein. His faithful quest for creation, with every intention for good comes to a sad realization that some things are better off left to the ultimate Creator. Cordelia Dewdney leads us on this journey playing Mary Shelley ,Victor's doomed wife and Victor's vision of the mate he plans to create for his man brought back to life. I don't want to say monster, because by the end of the play you will not see him that way. Keith D. Gallagher plays Lord Byron and the Creation with an amazing range of emotions that will leave you rethinking how we view Shelley's work. You will feel sympathetic towards this man that did not ask to be created and in the end wanted only family, caring and love. The staging is unique and the scenes are memorable, especially Victor's vision of both of his potential creations. Dewdney and Gallagher are electric in their creation scenes, grace and beauty exemplifying the visions of Frankenstein's goal in creation. The play runs through August and is highly recommended. The actual address for the theatre is on Southport, however they use the Water Tower Facility for many of their productions.

We've seen two other excellent versions in other cities, and this one was spectacular. They brought the action into the 20th century.  The words stayed the same, but the jokes took on new meaning for the modern audience.  They also had the best Falstaff ever.  He was always our favorite character, but this one takes keg.  Er, I mean takes the cake :-) The acting was particularly engaging, and the audience really responded to it.  At one point, a drink tray sailed off the stage and into the audience, no harm no foul, and as if it was scripted, an audience member slid the tray back onto the stage amidst much cheering and applause.   The staging was great, with two trap doors (and sound effects of falling bodies!). The stage was complete with a very modern doorbell!  And, yes, it did "ring". As an added bonus, one of the two characters who rode bikes onto the stage was brandishing a sword. Shakespeare meets Cirque? It was a hugely fun production in a lovely comfortable multi-tiered theater. Every seat has a good view of the stage.
