One of the founding members is David Schwimmer. You can't beat the location and if you are planning a night on the town or better yet a weekend, you should plan on hitting up one of their shows. It is a small theatre which results in, not a bad seat anywhere in the house. The current show is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Forget Boris Karloff and the many retellings of the story as you have seen the countless movies and television versions. This is a very faithful tale, true to the book and a very stimulating thought provoking version. The ideas of creation from death is handled with great care by the excellent ensemble cast. Shelly's book is the result of a weekend with friends , where each participant was challenged to tell a chilling ghost story. Mary's story found its roots in the practice of grave robbing and selling cadavers for medical research. Her chilling take follows the creator Victor Frankenstein on his quest to cheat death by recreating the spark of life. The cast all play dual roles, the original guests at the party and the major characters in the story. Walter Biggs is challenged with the dual roles of Mary's husband Percy Shelley and the creator Victor Frankenstein. His faithful quest for creation, with every intention for good comes to a sad realization that some things are better off left to the ultimate Creator. Cordelia Dewdney leads us on this journey playing Mary Shelley ,Victor's doomed wife and Victor's vision of the mate he plans to create for his man brought back to life. I don't want to say monster, because by the end of the play you will not see him that way. Keith D. Gallagher plays Lord Byron and the Creation with an amazing range of emotions that will leave you rethinking how we view Shelley's work. You will feel sympathetic towards this man that did not ask to be created and in the end wanted only family, caring and love. The staging is unique and the scenes are memorable, especially Victor's vision of both of his potential creations. Dewdney and Gallagher are electric in their creation scenes, grace and beauty exemplifying the visions of Frankenstein's goal in creation. The play runs through August and is highly recommended. The actual address for the theatre is on Southport, however they use the Water Tower Facility for many of their productions.

The entire set was cheap card tables and chipped furniture, a nutcracker doll that was barely visible and with little explanation as to why it changed hands among the performers- who danced in raggedy clothing, maybe one actual tutu for five minutes(?). There was very little actual ballet that I could ascertain, leaving me with impression that a lot of the performers were on holiday. It's really unfortunate that something so beautiful could be made into a somewhat depressing and largely incoherent show. So many people who come to see this I'm sure would normally be inspired to come back for a different show, but this performance so much missed the mark for what should be an upbeat holiday, I'm not inclined to take the risk

We saw Midsummer Night's Dream by the Joffrey Ballet at the Lyric Opera and, no, this is not a…read moreversion of the William Shakespeare play, but choreographed by Alexander Ekman. We also saw this when it premiered in 2018. It is a celebration of the summer solstice and Scandinavian traditions. In my opinion it is a mashup of Midsommar and Cirque du Soleil if you substitute the acrobats and contortionists with dancers and Swedish elders being pushed off a cliff with lifelike mannequins thrown from a floating table. It opens with a man in bed being woken by his alarm on Friday, June 21 and a woman greets him with hay? straw? And they join into a crazy scene of people throwing hay? straw? with the hay soaring in graceful arcs across the stage. There are frenzied dances, a large dining table that soars into the sky, and comedic bits. After intermission things get wild, with fish falling from the sky, people falling from the sky, a naked chef and more frenzied dancing, with an echo back to the hay throwing. There is a beautiful singer, Anna von Hausswolff, with a soaring, haunting voice, is she dressed like Elsa from Frozen or hair like cousin It? The singer and the wonderful music by Mikael Karlsson and the wonderful musicians make this an otherworldly fable. And the clock fast forwards to June 21 of the next year and it begins again. Is this a dream? Unfortunately this was the final performance of this run.

One plays the inspector of a murder and the other plays all the suspects of the murder. Most of the show is in sing-song. The lyrics and the props they use are HYSTERICAL! It may sound weird that a two person musical was entertaining, but this was actually WAY BETTER than some Broadway musicals I have seen. I would go and see this musical again and again. We enjoyed ourselves that much! The show is 90 minutes without intermission. Time goes by fast! There's no bad seat in the house. Each row is elevated on step up behind the other so the person sitting in front of you should not be obstructing you. There is one row in the balcony. Again, no obstructions there. In the vein of Agatha Christie crossed with an episode of Frasier crossed with Second City crossed with MURDER!!!!!! What is cool about this show is that there are only two actors --one actor investigates the crime, the other plays all 13 suspects. And to top it off, they both play the piano! And it is cheap and quick - like my Friday nights... Zing!!! It runs 90 minutes, no intermission. And tickies are only $25. Only downside is there are no sex scenes which sucks (just kidding) -- seeing if you are reading. There are no downsides to Murder for Two. It runs for another month. Get your arses to Chicago Shakespeare Theatre post-haste. Tout suite. RIGHT NOW!!!!! And while you are there, go get an Auntie Anne's pretzel from the food court. Located near Marina Towers on State Street, this one hour magic show was filled with amazing…read morestunts. With at least three stages, audiences were free to roam to get closer to the stages. Audience participation was encouraged. This show is great for families. So the cheapest tickets were standing room only but its only for an hour and you can get close to the performances. For the seated guests large tv screens allowed for closer views of magic stunts. The gift shop had lots of magical items and magical props for selfies. Proof of vaccination were required and there were social distancing stickers on the floors.
