I enjoyed the show but the setup of this theatre is a bit odd. You need to do your research before buying a seat. The views from some of the seats are not great at all. If you are all the way to the right or left you may miss some things. If in the upper level the ceiling above could also block your view. There are pillars that can block your view. The show was amazing but the seat you select can really affect your experience. Expect a long line for the bathroom at intermission. The lobby is very very small. So if you want to buy a merch or a drink the area is very tight.

We finally get to see Hamilton - a hugely successful award-winning musical at the CIBC Theatre!  Our daughter did some research before buying tickets months ago, and got excellent seats.  We were on the Orchestra level row J center seats (105, 106, and 107).  Since the stage is higher and very close to the first row, she avoided at least the first 5 rows.  The seats are staggered and I had no problems seeing the performance. Since I am petite, the seats were pretty comfortable to me, and legroom was fine.  As we were sitting in the center seats, no one passed through our seats.  However, I did see that when people squeezed through some seats, the seated people had to stand up to yield, I would imagine space was still tight to go through.   The CIBC Theatre is a historic building; the auditorium is very beautiful.  In this show, lighting and acoustics were great. I also like the rotating circular floor on the stage that allowed great theatrical effects. The ushers that we encountered were friendly and helpful.  I learnt from reviews that the building was small and space was tight, so we used the washrooms in the restaurant before we headed to the CIBC and successfully avoided the long lines.   Needless to say, the Hamilton musical is absolutely phenomenal!  From row J, we could clearly see the performers' facial expressions and action.  The entire cast was immensely talented.  I was amazed that I would love a musical with so much rapping in it.  I was truly impressed that the entire energetic cast had such great ability to memorize all those long and fast-paced lyrics and raps. This was a powerful historical story presented with a powerful performance.  I am so happy that we finally saw it!

Beautiful theater but does seem cramped. If you are a taller individual you may feel uncomfortable in their seats. I'm short and had an aisle seat and still kept moving around. They do have security. A great place to see a show. This theater feels more intimate than other Chicago theaters.

As others have mentioned, the view is moderately obstructed depending on where you're sitting. We were in the middle balcony and it felt like we were looking through a tunnel to see the stage. The singing also didn't seem proportional to the music - very difficult to understand them. Maybe that's just because it was Hamilton and the combination of the rapping, English accent, and music was a bit much. The venue was designed nicely, but it was pretty tight getting out of the auditorium during intermission.

Came and enjoyed watching 6 here. We had the mezzanine seats and it was quite good. There was a bathroom and concession on the mezzanine floor which is very convenient. Lots of stairs though. I can't imagine an elderly sitting from the mezzanine and balcony floors because there will be lots of waiting for the elevator. Nonetheless, the ushers were friendly, the stage, although small for this show was good, and the sound system is great. Seat sizes were quite pinched. No room to move or stretch. Don't bother taking off your winter coat once seated. You will punch the person next to you. Overall, a great time!

Chicago is known for a theater scene and this little quaint theater is no exception. I've been here throughout the years for multiple shows and the theater is always a great place. From the ushers to the bartenders to the greeters, everyone's kind and help you in anyway. There have been some updates but for the most part that is one of our not-as-new theaters. The show 'The Magical Cirque Christmas' holiday variety show was amazing. Think of a mini circus Soleil; acrobatics, funny props, juggling, engaging with the audience and they had magic in the show. The host was amazing and funny. This is for the family, they had stuff for the adults as well as children. It's about a two hour show but you do notice the time. Is that it was perfect for the show.

Looking at Mezzanine center and Mezzanine Left from Mezz Right, row C seat 6
    Elle Z.

This is an old (and beautiful) theatre! I was buying tix and the online community said Mezzanine is best option for plays to take in entire stage. I concur. Floor seats seem to miss too much, regardless if you are close to the stage. I'd choose Mezzanine for myself every time. But lots of stairs! Keep that in mind. I overheard a lady say she had to take an elevator and they could only fit 4 people. The seats are narrow, so if you are maybe on the larger side, it could be uncomfortable, not to fat shame anyone. The lady in front of me was spilling into her seatmates' seats and she literally had a hard time getting out. I was Mezzanine Right in row C in seat 6. That meant I was three rows back and three seats in (even # seats). Keep in mind anything further right starting seat 8 might not see the things on the side of the stage. Better seats are mezzanine center. I saw the play Clue. ‍ it was based off the childhood game. It was cute & clever script dialogue like when they asked "Who built this house?" The guy quipped, "The Parker Brothers." So lots of funny moments but the play was fast moving and bit confusing. The cast were wonderfully talented actors. The stage scene changes were so fun and well done! (I did have an 11year old next to me and there were some seriously adult jokes in there. ) The show says it was 90 minutes no intermission. It was scheduled to start at 1:00pm. It started at 1:15pm and ended at 2:30 on the dot. So it was only 75 minutes, NOT 90. I saw lots of people (older) and they were struggling to figure out how they could navigate the "steep steps" to get out of mezzanine. No railings in the mezzanine area. Bathroom was outside the mezzanine area and the line looked like the lines when I used to go to Poplar Creek concerts & people drank too much beer. Soooooooo looooooooooong. Glad I opted not to drink anything. Overall, I'd return to CIBC, it did not smell old (like other theatres) and my seat had an unobstructed view. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

We've seen many plays in this theatre over the years. Through the many different name changes. One thing remains. It's a beautiful theatre. Regal and majestic are some of the words I would use to describe it. Take the time to look around at the beautiful furnishings. You will feel like you have stepped back in time.

Was a good venu the play was great the cast amazing. Easy in and out. The place is so cute love the old styles and want to know the history of this building.

Nice quaint downtown Chicago theater. Pretty interior and historical. Smallish and intimate. Seats were cushioned but not big as this is an older theater, and it's warm and cozy. Bathrooms had marble inside the stalls. Parking is either metered on the street for about $7 per hour near the area or use spot hero to look for a good parking deal at a garage.

Theater host great shows. I have previously came here for 1776, Six, and Boop! I really appreciate the sound system in the theater sometimes sound can be a little muted however that was not an issue for this theater. I have sat in orchestra and also in regular balcony and also an upper balcony and sound is never an issue. Where I lower the rating is on the bathroom situation. they only have one set of bathrooms in a basement and the line is absolutely ridiculous. Therefore I recommend you go before your show or after your show. I also noticed that the steps were very steep and I was concerned for the accessibility for some of the elderly patrons. Overall a very nice location I would recommend to avoid upper balcony as I had a hard time seeing this show. I actually am going to have to go see that show again cause i'd like to be able to see some of the particulars.

    Betty Boop matinee!

For those who know me, I love the theatre, period. At one point I wanted to study theatre when I was a teenager. I love all aspects of it. As I got older living in NYC, I even volunteered at a local theatre. I describe this theatre as beautiful and elegant. It reminds me of what theaters ought to look like. This afternoon, Joseph and I went to the matinee showing of Betty Boop. I admire this character. I think she symbolizes the fun, flirty, smart, and feminine ideals of the 1920's female . So glad we get to see this character come alive on the theatrical stage. We arrived at the theatre at 1:10pm. We saw a large crowd waiting to enter. What excitement! The sea of audience included the elderly, the young professionals, and those who wanted to explore this cultural icon. Come see "Boop!" at the CIBC.

I really enjoyed watching The Kite Runner here! The theater is beautiful and it's small enough that every seat is a good seat except the far left or right seats on the first few rows (blocked by speakers)

It is a fitting venue for touring and other musical productions. The grandeur has been kept up tremendously, with marble everywhere you look, yet it doesn't feel tacky or OTT. The restroom lines are still a prison yard spectacle, and it's a bummer. It's fine to keep things moving and have a somewhat intense system for doing so. But I really dislike the power trip and lack of coordination. I was there early on in the intermission, thank goodness, and one woman told me to stand alongside the wall. Sure! Then about 20 seconds later, another woman working there told me to stand against a different wall while I waited. As I was in the stall, I heard one woman shouting directions at everyone - the crazy thing was that she didn't seem mad or rude, but she was at such an obnoxious volume with extremely repetitive shouts! It was honestly annoying, between that and literally being told "up against the wall" like we're criminals. It's also downright stupid that there's no wifi here. What year is it?

I used to live in the city, so getting the chance to come back and see a show there always feels special. Last December we went to see Phantom of the Opera with our daughter, my mom, and my godfather, and it was such a memorable night for all of us. From the moment you walk in, the theater itself is stunning. The architecture, the ornate details, and the overall atmosphere make it feel grand and historic in the best possible way. The theater is also very well run. Everything from entering the venue to finding seats and getting settled felt smooth and organized, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Seeing a show like Phantom of the Opera in such a beautiful space made the evening feel even more magical. It's the kind of place that reminds you why live theater is so special. OUT OF THIS WORLD. Every single voice was powerful, soulful, and straight-up gave chills. You could feel the emotion in every note--gospel, R&B, soul... it was hitting on ALL levels. The costumes were a whole moment! Bright, bold, colorful, and creative--every scene felt like a visual celebration. Just beautiful to watch. And the dancing?? Whew! High-energy, sharp, and so fun. The choreography had the whole audience locked in--you can't help but move in your seat! This show is just FUN. It's vibrant, uplifting, and full of life. This was my first time at this theater and O. My. Gawd. The elegance hit me the second I walked in. The entire place is like stepping into a glamorous time capsule. Think ornate, gilded ceilings, rich and flamboyant architectural details, and walls that look like they were decorated for royalty. Massive, sparkling chandeliers hang overhead like they're showing off -- and honestly, they should. Everything felt extravagant in the best possible way. Now, a small downside: the women's bathroom on the second floor only has three stalls. During intermission the line was long, like "please don't let the curtain go up yet" long. I heard there's another restroom downstairs, so if you're a planner like me, maybe scope that out before the show starts. The staff and ushers were wonderful -- super attentive, helpful, and very observant. They kept everything running smoothly and made the whole experience feel welcoming. Somehow, I learned about a children's production presented through their educational wing. I'm not sure if their education & engagement was this strong in years past or perhaps I simply wasn't dialed into their offerings, but that's definitely changing now. We went to see Splish Splash. This was a 50 minute long story about a blue heron and friends who are seeking to repair the moon after it fell into Lake Michigan. There were songs, there was play, and it was highly interactive. The kids--fellow "sailors", along with three of the cast members--learned a song to sing along at various parts of the show. There were several times when the kids were invited onto the "stage" (it was in one of their lab/classroom spaces, so there wasn't a raised stage) to help or participate. It was so well done, and kept the kids engaged. I really loved how this experience was designed. Upon arrival we were checked in and pointed to one of the classroom spaces. I was surprised because I wasn't sure how actors could be safe there, but it was actually a room for the kids to color and read books or play with toys and stuff before we were taken into the room where the performance took place. I've only seen something that was meant to keep kids busy like that before showtime is at Filament Theatre, and we've gone to kids shows at two or three other theaters by now. It was a great touch. This production was specifically geared toward children aged 0-5, which is atypical and felt so special that it was written with the littlest theatergoers. One of the important pre-show reminders was for adults, reminding us that it's a no-shush zone! I'm so excited that one of the most important theaters in the city, and the oldest non-profit theater still in operation in Chicago, is so committed to developing young audiences in an exciting way and meeting them where they're at. Sharing a letter that I wrote to Broadway in Chicago and the Cadillac Theatre for which I never…read morereceived a response: I am writing to share a concern regarding audience management during performances at your theatre (Cadillac). I attended The Phantom of the Opera last night and unfortunately, the experience was significantly disrupted by a visibly intoxicated family seated nearby. They spoke throughout the performance and, most notably, sang very loudly during the final song--directly over the performer during what is meant to be a pinnacle and emotionally powerful moment of the production. This behavior was disruptive and diminished the experience for many audience members in the surrounding area. This was not an isolated incident. Last year, while attending Moulin Rouge at your theatre, I experienced a similar situation involving two belligerent and intoxicated audience members who talked, sang, danced, and cried audibly through much of Act I and part of Act II before finally being escorted out. I paid $250 for my ticket last night to see one of my favorite musicals, and it is deeply disappointing to have that experience compromised by behavior that should be unacceptable in a professional theatre setting. Audience etiquette is essential to preserving the integrity of live performance, and more proactive intervention would go a long way in protecting both patrons and performers. I want to emphasize that the theatre itself is beautiful, and the productions you host are outstanding. It is precisely because of the quality of your programming that I feel compelled to raise this concern. I strongly encourage you to consider stronger audience management practices to ensure that future performances can be enjoyed as intended.
