Food: came here with my bf to see Sam Tallent for a Valentine's Day comedy date. The show was great and the drinks were good! I ordered the Zanie Sour, which was pretty balanced of sweet and sour. We didn't eat the snacks they offer, however. You do need to order two items off the menu per person. 5/5 Service: the service was okay! We've been to other comedy clubs with a system to alert the wait staff that we were ready for another round (for example, turning on an electric tea light or a silent button). So there were times we had to wait 5-10 minutes after our cocktails to order another round. The server however was sweet! 4/5 Ambiance: the club was small! I believe it can seat 80 people or so! I found it to be a little cramp. The bathrooms are located at the front of the venue so you have to walk pretty far in front of people to get to them. It would be better have to have another set of bathrooms to avoid this. 2/5 Overall: 11/15. A cute date idea but the service and layout was a little bit of an inconvenience. Still had a good time because of the comics!

Great comedy club with lots of seating, albeit a bit close to one another. Definitely purchase tickets before you go to your show because it even gets busy in weekdays. You have a good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non. The mocktails cane be a punch of flavor, depending on what your taste buds ask of you. You can see some great heavy hitter comedians at Zanies, it is a Chicago staple, after all. Staff is friendly and prompt. Overall pretty clean and most of the seats are great seats there.

Zanies gives very vintage OG comedy club vibes. I went with a bunch of friends for Laura Peek show. She was outstanding. We really enjoyed watching her stand up and other headliners. Couldn't have asked for a better Thursday! The doors open an hour before the show starts. The member of the staff checks for a valid ID and seats you as per first come first served basis. He was very nice. The seating was a bit tight and cramped though. The tables were small. Also, our server was okay, nothing exceptional. Just like many other comedy clubs, my complaint with Zanies is minimum purchase of 2 items (food or drink) We, as a big group were celebrating a birthday and had a dinner reservation after the show but we still had to spend $245 just over food and drinks to meet the min order which was a bit outrageous. The margarita that I ordered was very watered down and icy. Very limited food options on the menu (barely 3). All in all be ready to spend ~$75/person on the night. That being said, I will visit again as I recently started attending the comedy shows and want to explore more heehee. I would recommend for anyone looking for a night filled with laughter and joy!

Saw Alingon Mitra *the TikTok comic at this Zanies on Sunday, and he was good as expected. This place is cozy (aka tiny af) and OG, like the last remodel? Guess the 1980s. Food is over-priced for value by 100%. The service is very good, though. Overall, there are much better venues to go to in the Old Town area (Second City), but it's cool if you want to be 15 feet away from the comedian.

Loved my experience at Zanies. We went as a big group for the Laura Peek show. We walked in and were greeted by the ticket checker who checked our IDs. He then proceeded to seat us. The seating is first come first serve, but he does ensure that the group has the ability to sit together. Zanies has a cozy old school vibe, reminiscent of typical comedy clubs in Chicago. The place was a little smaller than I expected, but had tons of seating. What that means is that the place was a bit cramped. The ticket prices were reasonable, especially because you donot just get the main comedian but also a few more comedians that take the stage before the main comedian performs. Laura peek was amazing! Her comedy was relatable, refreshing and on point with timing. We also loved the three other comedians that took the stage before her. Their comedy was in the same genre as the head comedian so it felt more like an even flow throughout. I however, did not like the rule of a two item minimum for the show. It kind of felt like a rip off that you have order two items and if you don't, you will be charged a minimum of $12 regardless. It felt forced, especially because most people book tickets for watching the comedians and not for the food or drinks. The food and the drinks menu was limited but interesting. The service was decent. We were a big group and our server was patient with us. She ensured she hardly disturbed us while the show was on. Overall, I loved my experience and will definitely visit again, but I would be hesitant to spend on the two item minimum.

Went to see Godfrey and it was good. Space was very tight. Service was friendly. It was a nice fun night.

Some great comics come through here! My only qualm is the two drink / food minimum per person on top of the ticket price. Friends and I really enjoyed the warm pretzel though and sadly they had run out of their pie. Nachos are meh! Definitely buy your tickets in advance online, because sometimes they sell out! If you want good seats, definitely come early (more than 15 min) before the show starts.

I love Zanies! It's such a fun place for a comedy show. Super chill, casual and intimate! The shows are usually pretty good too!

Had a nice, intimate evening with the comedians. The only issue was the draft coming in that made it pretty cold halfway through the show.

We went on a $10 for 10 acts night and it was worth much more (even more than the additional 2 drink minimum).

The cast is consistently brilliant, and the comedy feels effortless while clearly being the result of immense talent, timing, and skill. The food and drinks are also something to note - some places just do the basics, but I like that Second City takes pride in what they serve. I also had the incredible opportunity to take classes here back in 2017 with my husband, which gave me an even deeper appreciation for what happens on stage. The entire concept - how the sketches are written, how they flow seamlessly from one to the next, and how improv is woven throughout - is truly genius. What's especially impressive is how expertly the performers handle audience members who may be a bit too enthusiastic or disruptive. They manage these moments with wit, grace, and humor, turning potential interruptions into laugh-out-loud highlights without ever derailing the show. Second City isn't just a comedy show, it's an institution. Whether you're there as an audience member or fortunate enough to study there, the experience is consistently memorable, inspiring, and endlessly entertaining. A must-see in Chicago, every single time.

Great comedy show!…read more Went to She the People (an all-women comedy show by Second City), and it was fantastic. Wait service was attentive as well. Upon arrival, IDs and vaccination cards were checked. At the entrance to the theater, the host checks your tickets and determines where you will be sitting. She asked for my party's preferences on how close we wanted to sit (the closer to the front, the greater chance you'll be asked to interact). Menu isn't super big (one page, drinks on one side and food on the other). I didn't eat a full meal here; just had some curly fries ($5) that came with ketchup and was just the right size for a snack. Fries were tasty and salty, although I ALWAYS wish I had more fries. Seating is pretty close together; multiple parties end up sharing tables since seats are positioned in rows with the occasional table in the middle of some rows. That being said, although I was sharing my table with two other parties (one on the other side of the table to my right and another behind diagonally from me), I didn't feel overly crowded at this venue. As per their website, I brought a jacket to the venue and was the most comfortable wearing it based on the temperature. The show itself was fantastic; as expected, it incorporated feminist themes into the comedy. Pretty funny show! Bathrooms were also open, clean, and had plenty of stalls.

The building is located on the corner of North Avenue & Wells Street so this place is very convenient for it's patrons. Take the escalator to the second floor and then we had to present our brunch ticket. From there, we were taken into our seating area. The table is basically the railing and the chairs are very close together. Which has it's pluses and minuses. The buffet area is well planned out and has a wide variety of options. This buffet is pretty descent for the venue. The staff was very pleasant and would check in with us for any drinks / clearing of the plates. After, the brunch, there was about an improv show. The show was about 60 minutes. I give the comedians two thumbs up. Let's face it... it's hard to stand up there and give a great show. I would recommend this brunch and show option.

Because it's BYOB you'll get the 20-somethings that feel they have to get loaded beforehand and then act the fool while attending (do you hear that "Neil"? No one wants the focus on you acting like it was your first experience with alcohol) but Aaron was skilled at bypassing them without causing tension or escalating bad behavior. Aaron's attitude is one of someone who has worked hard to make this little venture work, and he deserves respect and recognition for his obvious commitment and work ethic. His act included variations of tricks performed by other magicians, with his own twists. He is an expert at sleight of hand and distraction, which is considerably more difficult in a room about the size of an average residential living-room. He had an appropriate sense of humor aligned with an audience coming to Boystown, an overtly gay neighborhood in Chicago (if you're not familiar). However he wasn't garish, flaming, flamboyant, or offensive; he managed a perfect balance of innuendo humor and audience engagement without being cheap or ingenuine. The snarky one-liners will likely go over your young kids' heads (although bring them to an early show, your 9 year old doesn't belong in Boystown at 10 pm on a weekend), and he carries himself with class avoiding the use of profanity or graphic terms. Again, I can't overstate that his tricks were amazing, impressive, and captivating - as magic should be. You leave the show shaking your head and wondering how it's done - which truly makes it "magic". You would be hard-pressed to spend $36.36/person for an hour of live entertainment that can match Aaron's performance. Pro-tip: If you're driving there you will need to use an app to reserve parking, as there aren't garages like downtown Chicago and every street is filled with so many signs there's no way you will return and find your car not-towed or not-ticketed. Chicago does this on purpose to generate revenue; you'll see "street cleaning" on Tuesday from xx hour to xx hour, no parking when snow is over 2 inches OR any time from Dec 1 through April 1, loading zone, 15 minute stopping/standing with flashers, no parking, residential permit zone only, bike lanes, bus stop restrictions, etc. If you find street parking and think you've beaten the system, think again. Nobel Prize Laureates, Rhodes Scholars, Ivy League PhDs, Mensa members - you can meet them all at Chicago Central Auto Pound retrieving their vehicles. Stephen Hawking couldn't drive, but if he could and he parked in that neighborhood all the quantum mechanics in the world wouldn't make his towed car reappear from the Chicago Parking space-time continuum. The nice thing is if you do reserve parking and give yourself enough time you can walk to many, many restaurants and bars in the area that are open even after the 10 pm show ends. Thank you Aaron for a wonderful experience, you made my wife's birthday memorable for both of us.
