The Great Wheel is the most iconic attraction of the Seattle Pier 57. There's about 42 gondolas. They load up all of them at the same time, each group gets their own. Then the wheel goes around for 3 uninterrupted loops for about 15 minutes. They have a bar before the entrance, but you can get adult drinks only if no kids in the group. They also take pictures which are available for purchase after the ride. We were lucky it was a beautiful sunny day in Seattle the day we took the ride. We bought tickets at the counter. We waited about 10 minutes to get on the gondola. It was clean and glasses were clear. From the peak of the wheel, we were able to see the whole horizon from Mt. Reiner to Mt. Olympia. It goes around about four times, which gives you plenty of time to take in the views, and they're honestly beautiful. The beautiful view from the Great Wheel was a great experience. It was a bucket list thing I did to celebrate an event. We went at night and seeing the city lights was really cool. It was raining this evening so there was no lines. The price is $23.00 USD plus tax. The ride was about a solid 6- minute or so. I believe we went around 3 revolutions and paused at the highest point to take in the views. Upon entering, you will be offered the opportunity to have a photo taken as a keepsake, I don't know how much it costs for that. Also they have a bar you can purchase adult beverages and probably none adult drinks. This definitely a tourist attraction but at least a once in a lifetime thing for locals like me. read more

First night out on the pier and riding the Ferris wheel was on my to-do list so here I was! Riding under the classic Seattle weather, the Ferris wheel provided beautiful views of the water, pier and the city itself. Words do not compare to what I experienced in person--live! Come with patience as the wait can be long. And the rotation is short. Once we got on, we did get to go around 3 times, which made it seem a little better. Staff: The team here was really nice. Everyone from the ticket window, to loading, to unloading. Quality: This is something that we wanted to try since the last time in Seattle 2 years ago. To be honest, it's more spectacular from the outside than it is actually riding on it. The ride was $23 per adult for about 3 revolutions. The line to ride was longer than the ride itself. There was also a lot of stopping during the ride. On the plus side, the ride is very smooth and you do get great views of Seattle. We went at night hoping the lights would be cool to see. It was nice but maybe even better on a clear day when you could see the mountains. It was really windy that night and the cars were swaying a lot which was a bit unnerving. Especially when we were stopped at the very top waiting to let new people on. There's a little kiosk right before you get on the ride...so if you happen to crave a rum and coke, you can order one. It comes in an adult sippy cup that's reusable. Take note, if you haven't finished your adult beverage on the ride, you must finish it in the roped area before exiting the great wheel. Not a big deal, just something to note. Convinced my friend to face her fears and get on the wheel. And it was the highlight of her day. I've been on a similar wheel in San Fransisco. The views from the Great Wheel were great, I wished we would have went at sunset. It would have been phenomenal. Its a slow approach as you board the great wheel and then you take 3 trips up and around to see the views before slowly desending to disembark. The Great Wheel is a lot cooler as a background prop for taking photos in the area. The ride itself is fine, we came during the week so there was pretty much no line, I believe we got on in about 10 minutes. The waiting line had a bar where you could order drinks while you waited so that's something you could do to pass the time while waiting but if I was here on a busy weekend and had to wait over half an hour to get on I'd pass on it unless I had nothing else to do. read more

The Great Wheel is one of the main attractions downtown close to Pier 57 and whatever. Kind of pricy for a quick ride around. You get a few turns, but the best thing is the views. Cool history about how it came to be. It's located in a pretty touristy area with big ass crowds. The wheel is 175 feet high, which made it the tallest one in the West Coast when it opened. A unique thing is that it's over water, so you spin over Elliott Bay. It was opened in 2012 and has been popular ever since. Has these climate controlled gondolas. The wheel rotates a few times. Has to be one of the things a tourist does around here. It's open daily but can close when there's not enough riders. This is located pretty close to many other popular attractions like Pike Place Market and whatever. read more

I waited a really long time to ride this again due to the high price and the fact that it is not something I find overly exciting. I had some tickets for close to a year, but could never find a day that the weather was cooperating enough that I was in the area and it was a nice sunny day. I think a sunny day is probably the optimal time to enjoy this so that you can show off Seattle to those who may not be as familiar, but I admit to being tempted to try it at night. I find Wings over Washington, much more interesting, but I guess most people probably opt to do both attractions. I also had a really hard time convincing multiple people to ride this with me as they all insisted they were afraid of heights. Yes it is very tall, but it is so sturdy and does not shake at all. I guess I wouldn't like to be stuck up here for a long time, but that is mostly because I know I would need to go to the bathroom. There are easily accessible bathrooms in the building here and there are also now city bathrooms on the street right out front. I've been so tempted to take advantage of the option to have a meal up here, that sounds amazing, but the high price and lack of options for my dietary preferences keeps deterring me. What made my decision about updating this review and adding a star is that you can now bring alcoholic beverages on board. There is a kiosk in the line offering to sell you something in a souvenir glass for a semi reasonable price. I wish I had known this previously and I might have come back much sooner. Being able to take a drink makes the experience seem all the more special, but does add to the price. If you don't want this, then you can just walk past this kiosk and get on even sooner. The long line moved fast and the loading and unloading seems very efficient. Make sure to bring your phone and take pictures, if you have someone who doesn't know Seattle well you can point out all the things in the distance. Came here with some friends and that's the only reason I'd do something touristy like this because it's pricey at around $22 or $24 (I can't remember which). Nice views and if you're with friends, it's a nice, fun way to take in some of the scenery. The line moves pretty quickly and even though you get just three rotations, it lasts a while because of the loading and off loading. The wheel moves slowly and usually I don't like rides that are suspended in the air, but the slowness of the rotation helped me to relax. Each car has two benches, so one faces the water, the other the city and both offer nice views. If you want to see both sides, but trade seats so you get a chance to shoot both views.
