This is one of my MOST favorite places to be!!! I am a Scuba Instructor and avid camper. I have been coming her for years and I have to say... the new owners have made a 200% improvement here. They care about the park, the students and shops and are continuously making improvements!! You MUST check it out especially if you are familiar with the old clear springs!! I CANNOT give this review enough !! Also, bring non divers, it's beautiful and swimming is new and you can rent stand up paddle boards, kayaks or catch a movie while floating on a tube!!! Thank you Scuba Ranch for providing me a home away from home

Sisco the Shark about to eat a smiling 11 year old

In my son's and my first visit visit to CSSP we were surprise with the $20 per diver fee but more surprised by the $10 per spectator (non-diver) fee. My wife doesn't dive but wanted to hang out by the lake and she decided to bring her mother for some sun and fresh air, not sure why we had to pay $20 to just so they could breath the air. The tank refills were $8 per tank as described in another review and the guy (didn't catch his name) who refills the tanks was quick, efficient and friendly. There were also a few friendly dogs running around which my son (animal lover) was happy about. The lake itself was warm (85 F) when we were there (2-3 Aug 2014) with the thermocline at around 25 feet. The visibility was pretty low, probably 2 - 5 feet. There is very little to see in the water. The metal shark (Sisco) was cool but you need to be pretty good on the compass to get to him due to the visibility. There is also a small sail boat sunk just North of Sisco and there are some small fish but all in all, not much. My son (who loves the water) was ready to leave after only 2 dives on the second day.

This place is a whole dug out to build 30. Like all Texas lakes its not going to clear, however you can see your buddy and instructors within reasonable distance. It is expensive to come out here. I thought $8 to fill your tank was overkill, especially when the tank was just under half full, and they didn't even fill it up to 3000 psi. This happened to a few student actually. They are old school so bring plenty of cash, and no, they don't have atm's.

Certainly getting certified in Cozumel is an option with them but so is the Scuba Ranch in the Dallas area. I like to think if you can scuba in that lake you can scuba anywhere. The instructors were amazing and very accommodative to our needs. We opted to pay a little extra to do a a more private accelerated class. It did speed up the process and decreased the commutes out to the ranch. Fast forward to today and we continue diving. Their instruction and expectation setting has helped on many dives. Most recently I joined them on a liveaboard the MV Fling TX Caribbean out of Freeport TX. I have to say the diving conditions were amazing and who knew TX had such an amazing place to dive. It is a 6-8 hour boat ride out but totally worth it. Going with them also allowed me to expand my training and knowledge. There on the trip I did the nitrox and advanced diving. Once again the instruction was amazing and safety was always a priority. After doing 11 dives over 3 days I feel much more capable and ready for anything. Thanks to Gordon, Dick, Lance and Bob that are top notch. The shop is amazing and always full of suggestions.

The weekend that our twins went, the temps were somewhere in the 40s. the visibility wasn't that great for both weekends. It was a little bit warmer when our older daughter went. Both of those weekends, it was 2 young people paired up with a dive master or instructor the whole time. Never did I see a dive where they were not paired up with an experienced diver. The instructor was a police officer who regularly dives in the trinity river (and other water ways) for search and recovery dives (not the same one in the recent incident). He was in the water all the time. I felt that the instructions were clear and safety was always a top priority. There were at least 2 diver masters and the instructor both weekends. The classes including DMs and instructor was about 9-10 people. There was an covered platform with stairs to the top deck where I was able to watch my girls dive. Never did I worry about their safety. The only complaint I could make about Scuba Toys, is that I felt like their organization of the classes could be better. I don't remember all the details but I remembered we had some problems with getting them all the forms they needed (physician sign off, medical questionnaires, liability waivers, etc) and could have been handled easier. Seemed like we sent them but the scuba shop could find them or something. In addition, we have bought some gear from them, then bought some gear from other resources.

From the very first class with Dean, everything changed. He is hands-down one of the best instructors I've ever worked with. He has an incredible way of teaching--calm, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in his students. He pushed us just past our comfort zones, but never to the point of being uncomfortable or unsafe. It was the perfect balance of challenge and support, and that's where real growth happens. Dean didn't just teach us skills--he helped us become better divers. Because of him, our confidence, awareness, and teamwork underwater have grown tremendously. What started as a simple refresher turned into a passion. Now, both of us are actively pursuing becoming dive professionals. That alone says everything. Looking back, it's honestly wild to think how one decision in June turned into an entire new direction in our lives. What a journey it's been already--and we're just getting started. If you're considering training, whether you're brand new or looking to advance, High Tide Scuba and Dean are the real deal. We're beyond grateful, and we can't wait to see where this adventure takes us next.

We had some nitrox tanks that we just wanted air in as they don't provide nitrox. The son said he couldn't put normal air in them without them being oxygen scrubbed. We tried to explain that it was safe and he may be misunderstanding the process but if that was shop standard then that's fine, we just wanted to understand what the reasoning was and either learn something we didn't know or teach something he didn't. He said he would have to go ask the owner(his dad) and that he was almost an instructor and that he was learning about the dangers of filling nitrox tanks with air. He got his dad and who said if he filled our tanks with air that it would ruin our tanks and that they would need to be oxygen scrubbed. I explained to him that I've had my tanks filled at many shops and that's the first time someone tried saying they couldn't do it. He said it was both illegal and highly dangerous. He aggressively explained that he had been doing this for 30 something years and that he wasn't going to do it. I said that's fine, it's your shop so we don't mind abiding his rule but that I was trying to understand and that I believe he was mistaken on the process. I explained I'm both an instructor and certified to do air fills and well as nitrox fills. He said he wrote the manual and that he could get it and show me where it says that. I at first said no that's fine but then said "actually, and I'm not trying to argue, but I would like to see where you're getting that from because it's not the standard" he said "you can google it. You've already pissed me off and I'm not wasting my time on you". He was pissed off because we were trying to explain how putting air into a nitrox cylinder would not just cause it to explode and that it needed to be scrubbed before turning it back into air tank without an enriched air marking. Or if you were going to use an unusual nitrox mix such as something higher than 40%. We were extremely dissatisfied with the owner and his son. I believe it was his wife that was trying to calm him down for raising his voice at me but he wouldn't have it. I told them it's ok and I wasn't trying to argue just trying to understand and that I was no longer interested in diving there. His reply, "good. You've pissed me off and I don't want you diving here anyway" Honestly some of the very worst customer service I have ever recieved anywhere. If any of my employees had ever acted that way I would have fired them. If you want to go somewhere with amazing customer service, very friendly and doesn't get angry with asking how their shop works and their standards, go to The scuba Ranch about an hour away.
