I had my reservations that anyone would be able to break my eldest of her extreme fear of water or my youngest of her timidity. But, with her patience and persistence, Ms. Paige had them enjoying the water in no time! We have been swimming year-round with her for the past three years. Not because my children haven't learned how to swim, but because the LOVE it! Paige is unique in that she teaches each child as an individual, working with their own personality style and skill level. Over the years I have seen her interact with many different children. She has a gift with special needs kids. She can accomodate unusual requests, like blending groups of swimmers so that siblings and friends can be in the same class, if desired. To me, learning to swim is as important as wearing a seat belt. It is a life-saving skill every child needs to learn. Ms. Paige will not only teach your child how to stay safe around water, but she will teach him/her to love swimming.

At least one area is always in the shade. -We work with Kale. Since he is also a school teacher, he understands how to be calm and encouraging, yet firm and disciplined. We have never had Anne as our instructor, but she handles the business end of it, and has always been friendly and organized. I think very highly of their character. -Students swim for the ENTIRE thirty minutes. They never waste time sitting on the step waiting for someone else to take a turn. ***This is very different from the large swim school we tried last year. The classes were so big that only 10-15 minutes was spent swimming. The rest of the time was spent sitting on the step waiting for the other kids to take their turns. - While the instructor (Kale) works with one child privately, he gives the other child an assignment or task to work on independently. Examples of independent tasks for a beginner: putting face underwater on the step to grab fish; wearing a flotation device to practice scooping; and using a barbell to kick from one side of the pool to the other. -The price is very reasonable. It only cost $10 more for a semi-private class here (only 2 students in the class) than a group class with 6 students at a large swim school. Worth it.

Emler's lesson plans were unorganized at times and with each class having 4 kids, it left less time for the other kids to get some pool time, tbe would sit and wait for their "turn". At Big Blue my kid is in the pool the entire time, no ledge sitting. The lessons and goals are clear with their app that shows their progress, and the instructors are are wonderful with children. It's a great school and we have seen more progress in a few months here versus the year at Emler. Not trying to bash Emler, but this is simply a better environment for swimming lessons.

The bathrooms don't appear to be maintained and the same goes for the changing rooms. Visibly dirty floors are the biggest offender by the pool, bathroom and changing area. Quality of lessons? Employees are disengaged. I question staff training because there seems to be no consistency. On several occasions I have observed staff flirting with each other instead of teaching class, playing water games with each other and distracting students to name a few examples. Good luck raising awareness or giving feedback with management.

I often had to leave a message or email, which made communication delayed and sometimes frustrating. Secondly, I recorded portions of each lesson. And honestly- the last lesson (after two months of lessons) was exactly the same as the first. I had to ask for the teacher to challenge my daughter and to show her how to kick her legs, not just say "kick, kick, kick... good," when she didn't kick! I wish they had a progress card with set goals. They had "scripts" for each week... but there was zero progress. Thirdly, the commitment to an entire semester was our breaking point. You can do month to month, but it costs more. So it wasn't a bad experience... but it wasn't great. And for the tuition... I'd really like to see the teacher encouraging progress- not stay comfortable with stagnation.
