I would strongly suggest skipping this business. The owner and his son(Alex and Calvin Wilcher) were extremely rude. We had some nitrox tanks that we just wanted air in as they don't provide nitrox. The son said he couldn't put normal air in them without them being oxygen scrubbed. We tried to explain that it was safe and he may be misunderstanding the process but if that was shop standard then that's fine, we just wanted to understand what the reasoning was and either learn something we didn't know or teach something he didn't. He said he would have to go ask the owner(his dad) and that he was almost an instructor and that he was learning about the dangers of filling nitrox tanks with air. He got his dad and who said if he filled our tanks with air that it would ruin our tanks and that they would need to be oxygen scrubbed. I explained to him that I've had my tanks filled at many shops and that's the first time someone tried saying they couldn't do it. He said it was both illegal and highly dangerous. He aggressively explained that he had been doing this for 30 something years and that he wasn't going to do it. I said that's fine, it's your shop so we don't mind abiding his rule but that I was trying to understand and that I believe he was mistaken on the process. I explained I'm both an instructor and certified to do air fills and well as nitrox fills. He said he wrote the manual and that he could get it and show me where it says that. I at first said no that's fine but then said "actually, and I'm not trying to argue, but I would like to see where you're getting that from because it's not the standard" he said "you can google it. You've already pissed me off and I'm not wasting my time on you". He was pissed off because we were trying to explain how putting air into a nitrox cylinder would not just cause it to explode and that it needed to be scrubbed before turning it back into air tank without an enriched air marking. Or if you were going to use an unusual nitrox mix such as something higher than 40%. We were extremely dissatisfied with the owner and his son. I believe it was his wife that was trying to calm him down for raising his voice at me but he wouldn't have it. I told them it's ok and I wasn't trying to argue just trying to understand and that I was no longer interested in diving there. His reply, "good. You've pissed me off and I don't want you diving here anyway" Honestly some of the very worst customer service I have ever recieved anywhere. If any of my employees had ever acted that way I would have fired them. If you want to go somewhere with amazing customer service, very friendly and doesn't get angry with asking how their shop works and their standards, go to The scuba Ranch about an hour away. read more

100/10 this was the best scuba park I've ever been to. Front desk gal was AMAZING, everyone was so nice and helpful. It's so clean, the showers, the toilets. Being first timers, they let us know where everything was and were super helpful when we had questions. I LOVED IT!!! Will be back again and again! read more

Athens Scuba Park is a nice place to visit if you are looking to sharpen your dive skills. There are many sunken items in the lake that can be used for navigation and wreck practice. They also offer camping and the dive shop is well equipped with essential dove items. read more

Wow! If I could make this ten stars, I would. I took my son here for a day of diving for his birthday, which included a surprise of buying him a new piece of scuba equipment. The staff is wonderful, attentive, and kind. They took great care of us and made my son feel so special on his birthday. In addition, I was astounded at the reasonableness of their pricing. Everything was priced below what I expected from previous experience at other shops and locations--from park fees and equipment rental to the equipment we purchased. The park itself is awesome. Visibility was much better than similar locations I've dived. It probably didn't hurt that we were there on a weekday, with very few other divers stirring the waters, but I can only speak to what we saw, which was ideal. For instance, the sunken bus was visible from end to end both inside and out. That's twice as good as I expected. There were lots of sunken objects to explore and discover. My son was so excited to take a heading toward a buoy, then swim onward to see an airplane materialize out of the gloom. What a great experience! Anyway. Ten stars. We'll definitely be heading back for fun and for our future equipment purchases. read more

Nice scuba diving location. Located 1.5 hours from Dallas. A certification card is required to dive but a lot of scuba schools do their classes here. Lots of sunken stuff for underwater exploring ranging from airplanes to golf carts to school buses. They are sinking an airplane memorial day weekend 2011 so you can purchase tickets to ride the airplane down which is cool. A nice family ran shop and the prices are very reasonable. It's only $5 to fill up on air. This place has night diving and overnight camping as well. The water is more alkaline so there are no fishes in the water and the ground is made of clay so visibility can be quickly lost if the sediments are kicked up. read more

Descent place (get it?). Was a good dive spot for me and 3 of my buddies a couple of weeks ago. The owners were very friendly and nice. It wasn't an overly strict place, which I dislike when I run into at SCUBA sites. SCUBA diving is supposed to be chill, right? A bit of a mix up with our site, but nothing big, we just moved down to the next one. Air refills were quick and easy. They put some pretty neat things down there. The planes were my favorite, followed by the houseboat. Got to practice my skills in entering wrecks. The sailboats were also pretty cool, as was the cave system. But I wouldn't do the cave system again without a flashlight... Do yourself a favor and bring one for that and the wrecks. Almost had a panic attack when I let a bigger diver in front of me into the caves who blocked out all the light ahead. Nothing like being in a solid black void in a confined sunken tube sucking air out of a hose to test your ability to not panic. The only reason it's not 5 stars? The Vis was only about 6-8 feet. Definitely got to practice my navigation skills, and what to do when you lose your dive buddies, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Oh. And the thermocline... Bring a wetsuit. Brrr. read more

Scuba diver do you light! This place is great if you are a diver or just coming to swim! Only problem is it's a little pricey for the place versus other lakes! They do have lots of sunken items to go look at! It's fun great place to swim quiet and well-kept! The people there are very nice good little decent shower area and bathrooms and even have a little stage for hanging out in entertainment and teaching so bring your crew do some diving learn some stuff and have a good time! Love this place. The owners are friendly and accomodating. Plenty of good places to camp. Piers to enter and exit to keep from mucking up water too much. Ive seen the visibility at 50'+ and I've seen it so bad I dove mask first into the silt! (Treasure hunt. Really stirs up water!) For Texas lake diving, this is about as blue as it gets! read more

We came here to sharpen our scuba skills after getting certified back in March. It's a perfect place to practice and get a comfort level. The visibility was just okay - apparently it varies significantly based on rain, how many trainees are stirring it up. The folks running the place were really nice and helpful and everyone we met that worked there was really nice. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking to get a skills refresher. read more

Very nice staff and great place to go do some fun diving. Visibility was about 12-15 feet in most places which was better than Clear Springs, definitely worth the extra hour drive. My favorite thing to dive through was the c140 Jet. They have it gutted for easier maneuvering through it. Highly recommend this dive park! read more
