Can't speak much on the staff bc we barely interacted with them, they seemed mostly unbothered and nonchalant. We rent a screened shelter for 2 nights, Fri - Sunday. We actually got the last open shelter for the weekend, so we got lucky! We stayed in section 9. Very pretty area. Most of our fellow campers were courteous, although on our first night we heard music blaring from another part of section 9. For us to be able to hear it from where we were, they must have been LOUD so I can only imagine how their actual neighbors felt. And even though quiet hours are at 10, this music went on until probably around 11:30ish range. I also heard screaming and very loud laughing. Sounded like teenagers maybe. Remember people.... We all came out here to enjoy nature. Be courteous if you're sharing the space with other campers. Leave no trace ALSO includes noise pollution. It's ok to play some music and have a good time - I know I did! But I kept my music very low, and made sure to keep my voice down or at least not at such a volume that I could be heard across the camp ground. Anyway aside from that we had a wonderful time. The shelter was clean, the surrounding area was free of litter. We hiked, swam, made campsites, cooked, played games, rested in the grass, and had a grand time. I'd have to put this park up there on my list of top 5 parks. It's has everything! It definitely gave me *summer camp* vibes. The only thing I probably wouldn't recommend is the boat rentals. They are quite pricey. If you can swing it, bring your own!

What's really great about Tyler State Park is that it is not too far off of I-20 and the heart of downtown Tyler. It's actually kind of mesmerizing how close this preserved state park is from the city and how many people don't take that quick drive on a spring day. There's plenty of hiking to do on the almost one thousand acres of land. My girlfriend and I hiked the B Loop hiking trail, which is a little over 3 miles and was a very easy adventure for us. I wanted us to do more, but our legs were tired, so we called it there. Instead, we went to the Northside Day-Use Area to get our feet in the water and enjoy the view of the lake. Bathrooms, need attention, we had a huge glob of hair from the previous campers on our shower wall, that was enough to gross anyone out. The bathroom also did not smell clean, they need to be disinfected. Food: Disgusting, the eggs appeared to either be made from a box or previously made and just reheated. All of the other food is meant for 5 year old children (chicken nuggets and pizza), not kids getting ready to go into Junior High School and parents that have been physically working all day. We also had several children with special cultural diets, however the camp completely ignored it. One child had to eat a hamburger bun with nothing in it. Again this child's parent paid over $300 for 2 nights, no excuse. For Over $300 for 2 nights, the food needs to be better. This is unacceptable. Activities for the children: Kevin, Mike and Rachel were the absolute best, they clearly love children and enjoy their jobs. Several of the other instructors were burnt out and had very little patience (and clearly didn't enjoy children). Pat, the person that speaks on stage, needs a vacation. She is a GRUMP off of the stage. She is forgetting the people visiting are PAYING guests, which is how this place stays open. Most of the staff here expects for the Chaperones to do the heavy lifting. Truly, they provide the infrastructure, but the chaperones do the work. They will ask you to put their supplies away etc..

I wasn't allowed to bring my infant in the car seat in the room so I had to hold him the entire class and try to keep up with my toddler. There were helpers, but they weren't always engaged with the kids. If there were regular open play times where multiples of different ages could go on a schedule that would be better for parents with multiple littles at home and of different ages. There was another mom with a toddler and infant but she explained how she also couldn't figure out how to bring them both at the same time. The workers seem to still be learning. As we were leaving, my toddler was holding a scarf and the worker got into a tug-of-war with her trying to take the scarf. I would have liked a gentler approach. She also started spraying cleaner when the class was over nearby my toddler. Another downside is you must purchase a membership and can't pay per class. So as I can't figure out how to bring 2 under 2 and I wasn't totally satisfied with the staff, I can't commit based on that trial visit, so we won't be back. Overall, I'll give 4 stars because Tyler needs more things like this for young kids, however I'm also bummed I can't be a regular customer.

The trip here was not as planned as I would normally do. We had come to Tyler for something else, but kept hearing "you gotta check out the zoo". Being from Dallas, i snobbishly thought "how could it be better than what we have in the metroplex?". I am gonna say this zoo earned my respect! I loved the design and the walk through the zoo. They have been reported twice since December 2025…read more According to the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the incident happened Dec. 20, 2025, at Mystic Misfits (aka Canton Grand Safari) in Grand Saline. Inspectors say the adult female hyena was being handled in a manner similar to a pet dog, walking in a public area with direct access to guests. The USDA report states the facility allowed members of the public near the animal and directed one guest to stand beside the hyena for a photograph. Federal officials say the hyena then bit through the leash, escaped the handler's control and attacked the guest, causing a severe calf injury that required hospitalization. The violation was labeled "Critical" under federal animal handling regulations. USDA inspectors noted hyenas are powerful wild predators capable of causing serious injury and said public exhibitions must include proper barriers, distancing and handling procedures to protect both the public and the animals. The focused inspection was conducted Dec. 31, 2025, and the report says corrective action was required immediately moving forward.
