However, during my final month there, the owner began doing the feeding himself for other boarders, and that's when serious issues started. While driving a four-wheeler around with open buckets of feed, portions of that feed were dropped right outside my horses' pens. Both of my horses have genetic muscle disorders and are highly sensitive to high-sugar, high-starch, and gluten-containing feeds. Even small amounts can make them sick. After this change in routine, my mare colicked twice in two weeks. When I tried to address these concerns calmly, the environment became increasingly uncomfortable. From the start, I was treated poorly -- the owner openly told others not to like me -- and it only worsened when I advocated for my horses' dietary needs. To make matters worse, when I left the property, I was accused of taking a water trough that I had originally brought with me. Thankfully, several people could confirm that it belonged to me. If your horses have any medical or dietary sensitivities, or if you prefer a respectful, drama-free environment, I would be cautious about boarding here. Always put every instruction and agreement in writing and keep records of your own equipment and feed.

I boarded my horses at this facility after being told they specialize in caring for "special needs"…read morehorses. Unfortunately, my experience was very different. If your horses require specific diets or supplements due to sensitivities, this may not be the place for you. The management strongly prefers everyone to use their feed and supplement program, even when your horse medically cannot tolerate those products. When I tried to maintain my horses' individualized plan, things quickly became tense and hostile, and I was made to feel like I didn't know what was best for my own animals. It's also important to know that, while their contract states they will immediately contact the owner in the event of any medical situation, that was not my experience. Instead, they made independent decisions and created their own care plans without consulting me, which could have seriously compromised my horses' health. If you board here, make sure every detail is in writing -- including your horses' care, diet, supplement schedule, and how any health issues should be handled. Keep records of all communication and payments. This facility may work for horses without special needs, but if your horses require individualized nutrition, medical management, or a highly specific routine, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

A good place to start and focus on safety in riding but not to continue it or get serious into…read moreshowing. Very understaffed for how many horses they have. Not all children fit the program structure. My children both attended, one had a great experience but the other did not. Youth days we were told to drop our kids for that and she ended up yelling at one telling her "this isn't a day care and she's not a babysitter". My kids did learn how to tack up but even after almost a year still couldn't do it unassisted. No trotting, jumping and very small trail rides around the property. My child's lesson was paused when I questioned an invoice, which I made the hard decision to move on. My children and I are thankful for the introduction to the sport, but yelling at our child and the other issue made us leave.

Counselors know everybody's name, there are horses, zip lining, ropes course, waterfront, archery, riflery, water front, and a ton of other things that are really entertaining. It's huge but you can find your way pretty easily, the cabins are old but it's fun because it's kind of a throwback and the counselors are super entertaining, and as for the things removed, it's still fun, even without NOLA roasts, Non-Or Campers, etc. It encourages activity and fun and has so many choices of what to do. I have a favorite horse, she's very nice and most of the horses are great too. All in all I love this camp very much (also it's a great break from tech) and it's the one place where I can fall asleep with melatonin (it tires you out in a good way) and my anger issues get a lot better here because it's very calming. As for the price, I think if you can afford it you should DEFINITELY have your kid come here. It's near Shreveport, Louisiana but if you live somewhere too far to drive (i.e. a kid lives in Vegas) then you can fly and they'll pick you up at the airport and get you over on a bus. 10/10 recommend. You make amazing memories and life long friends.

The people there are not very well trained in the activities they are supposed to teach. The camp looks as if it hasn't been updated since the 60's. The cabins are falling apart and have many cracks where bugs find their way in. Two years in a row my cabin was infested with spiders. The last time I went the cabin flooded with the smallest amount of rain and there was an ant problem. The workers there have a problem with favoriting certain campers. The food is cheap and frankly very bad. You are never able to tell if you are eating fish patties or chicken ones(not an exaggeration). Ever heard of Sysco? Because that is all you eat. The cheapest and lowest quality food I have ever seen/ate. The councilors are very young themselves and are not old enough to be responsible for your 6+ year olds. Don't get me wrong, it used to be okay. Until, they got a new head director who is not one to pass down little traditions that made Camp Fern what it was. Anything that people found joy in was removed; non-honor campers, Nola roasts, some camp songs, ect. If you haven't gone to this camp you wouldn't understand. In conclusion, this camp is not for you unless you want to waste money to get the cheapest quality of everything. These people only care about your money, not your experience.

I've been going to the camps since I was in about 5 years old. The towers was my first experience away from home overnight but I learned so much there met the Lord on a personal level and carried that throughout my life a relationship with him. I learned how to fish and archery, zipline canoe, sail, kayak, rock climbing and most importantly horsemanship one and two classes helped me build a relationship with the animals that I love so much. I just turned 40 this year and looking back over my childhood these were the best days of my childhood life I would never forget it and I will always suggest allowing your kid to go experience something like this. This does not mention the counselors in the level that they're on with the children is amazing, college students just loving on us kids you know living in an environment that they didn't have to be in but chose to be there for us is amazing

I think it played a huge part in me becoming an educator. During my observation this semester, my group of fifth graders invited me to their end of year camping trip. I was very excited about it and for good reason. I went to Pine Cove for a ropes course when I was about 13 and I knew immediately how much fun they were in for. Pine Cove operates on a mass level. They are a Christian based camp that has 8 different camps operating in the US. 6 camp sites are in Tyler, TX and 2 others are near Columbus, TX. The camp isn't slap you over the head with the new testament and try to convert you into my beliefs kind of a camp, rather, it's lets you experience God's beauty in it's natural form. Since I came with a public school, the Christian aspect (i.e. bible studies and quiet time) were not a part of activities. But I would have loved to take part in that with the camp counselors who seem to have amazing relationships and great appreciation for what they do! Since they offer women's retreats, couples retreats and day camps for youth....I'm sure that I will be getting to experience that aspect soon because I will defiantly be going back! Pine Cove offers a vast number of activities for youth of all ages to participate in. Their website offers adult retreats and conferences for all ages as well. The staff is wonderful with kids, literally amazing!! I didn't realize how much of an outdoors girl I was until was canoeing with my group of gals and didn't want to get out of the canoe! They feed you amazingly well, which, back in my day of camp, sloppy joes were the norm!, we got to eat BBQ baked potatoes and fajitas! Kids these days have it so good! Between the lovely set up with the cabins and the vast property that they have, you won't miss home too much! As a future teacher, this is definitely something I am keeping in mind as field trips and team building are being brought up!
