We were exploring Dunkeld (which I'm convinced I should move to), and found Spill the Beans. We…read morewanted a spot of mid-morning sugar and caffeine and were so happy we stopped in. When you first enter there's a shelf to your right just FULL of beautiful looking cakes and sweets (do NOT help yourself!), the till to your left, and beyond that a little cafe where you can enjoy lunch items. We decided on two americanos and a piece of victoria sponge. The young woman working was incredibly friendly, but she seemed either new or out of the loop regarding certain things. There was no milk for our coffees (she didn't know they had run out until we had already paid) and when we asked about a few of the baked goods she mostly shrugged and smiled. No big deal, we were very happy with our takeaway selection. The coffees were piping hot and the cake was melt-in-your-mouth good. It was a smaller slice than we were expecting, and next time we'd for sure get two or three different slices to share (or probably just stay and enjoy the cafe/courtyard area and really tucky in to even more!). Lovely, lovely coffee shop and I'm so glad we found it!

Good luck trying to choose between Victoria Sponge, Coconut & lime sponge, orange poppy seed, carrot cake, I came across this cafe in Dunkeld, tucked away next to the cathedral, with friendly staff, cakes and home baking where fresh and good value for money. This is a clean café and staff are friendly and helpful. Tea is from Brodies in Edinburgh. All served on delicate bone china cups.

Brilliant fish supper from the Dunkeld Fish Bar while staying in Perthshire on holidays…read more This place has won awards for its fish and chips, and I can see why. The shop itself is for takeaway only, is clean and well presented, and the staff are lovely. On the walls hang various awards and letters of recommendation from happy customers. Their haggis, sausages, and burgers are all supplied from local producers. As for our fish and chips - the chips were deliciously crips on the outside and floury on the inside with a lovely flavour. The fish was meaty, fresh, with light crispy batter. Fish & chips don't get better than this!

As a relative newcomer to Scotland/the UK, this was actually my first chance to eat fish and chips since arriving as it can be tricky to find gluten-free batter on offer. The batter looked maybe a little thinner and paler next to my gluten-eating friends' dishes, but was still crunchy and delightful. The fish inside was tasty and the chips were acceptable (though we did takeaway and the 15 minutes in the takeaway box might have brought them down a notch from their original glory - not the restaurant's fault!) All in all, a great first fish and chips experience in Scotland.

We were sotting next to the window and that was a fantastic choose: we had enough light to see each other, the plates and the rest of the restaurant. Also we could look out of the window and enjoy the view. The waiters were relax, no rushing, just helpful. The chicken was like you wish for: gently and juicy, almost melting on the tongue, like my love would say. My vegetables and hot spot lentils were exactly how it must be cooked! The food was a little old fashion but we even stay for a great dessert, because the main courses were so good!

The staff were lovely, and there was a great selection on the menu to choose from. I opted for a "light bite" of nachos with salsa, soured cream & salsa, and chicken. I have to be honest I was a little disappointed that the chicken was not freshly cooked chicken - it was strips of chicken from a packet that you would buy in a supermarket. Also, I am not sure that the salsa was freshly made. I like salsa fresh and chunky, however this was more sauce-like than the homemade salsa I love. We had our 1 year old daughter with us so asked for the kids menu. This was reasonably priced with 4 or 5 options to choose from. We chose a cheese and tomato pizza with salad for the little one. The pizza that arrived was extremely disappointing - clearly a kids frozen pizza with a rock hard base! When eating out I really expect more for my daughter and for myself - it is so easy to make a fresh kids pizza, even if just topping a crusty roll with freshly made tomato sauce and cheese. Also some freshly cooked chicken with homemade salsa would have made the world of difference to my dish. Howies Bistro - could do better!

The food is fresh and delicious and the service was second to none. I have heard that a booking is essential for Friday/Saturday nights. The decor is 'modern' and I think it has recently been refurbished. Parking is over the road or at the public car park a couple of minutes walk away. A strange place for an Indian in a lot of respects, but it works well....so that's what matters!

Came a couple of years ago food was nice but service was rude so didn't come again till yesterday…read more The staff was throwing out plates at the table and were very rude. My chicken pakora when cut was a perfect rectangle and tasted like frozen chicken nuggets. One of the curries from our group of seven literally tasted like tomato ketchup. My brothers vegetarian dishes were the only decent diahes which is a stretch saying so. In addition his dish was competely forgotten and then was "cooked" in 2 minutes which im assuming was microwaved. My biriani tasted like the regular rice and not close any decent buriani i have ever had before. Our whole group agreed that the aesthetic of the restaurant was very ugly and the service was very rude and seemed not to care. We left moat of our food and just ate out of hunger. Plus the worker who was not the boss was cleaning his nose and coughing on his sleeves which is unsanitary. Someone please open an Indian restaurant here you would take all the business. If you know a think about Indian/Bangladeshi food you know this is not it. Having been o both countries and lived in the Indian sub continent for 6 years is my experience with curry. And you can get great curries in Edinburgh or really any other restaurant. We have come for several years andnthw quality was always OK at best 3 starts but the service has slipped and would recommend to stay away.
