I booked here based on the great Yelp reviews and really just took a chance on letting them choose a stylist for me. Before I get into the great work that Megan did, I'll start from the beginning. First, don't get turned off by the kind of bleak exterior. It is really nice inside with a cool industrial vibe. Fringe texted me about 15 minutes prior to my appointment letting me know that I should check in via text and wait in my car until they were ready for me. Once I got the text, I walked in and was promptly greeted by the woman who took my temperature and shampooed my hair. I wish she had introduced herself, because she gave me a wonderful scalp massage while prepping me for my cut. Then, I met Megan who was super kind and chill. She consulted on my typical cut/style (as my hair had gone quite a while without a good cut). She walked me through every step that she was doing to get my requested style (which is pretty simply, low-maintenance). She was very conscientious of starting slow and ensuring that she didn't take too much off. I'm not typically one to really style my hair, but she put a nice little loose wave in it that I got a few compliments on during the day :) She showed me the products she used when I asked but did not try to up-sell, which is definitely a plus for me in my books. On a side note, I saw a couple of men getting cuts while I was there. The stylists were doing a really good job on those as well. I highly recommend Fringe and Megan W - she will be my new go-to stylist!

I was told only after the stylist was over half way done with my foils, that they did not carry the color I asked for. They had another light shade i couldve built off of to get me to where I wanted but she pushed for darker blue. I said a small portion of dark mixed with the blue might get me closer to what I wanted but I still wanted it light. I left with a dark teal because I didn't want to go any darker and make it hard to go light again.

I found New Image after hours (no exaggeration) of searching on the web. Something about the way they portray themselves on their website really drew me in, so I called to make an appointment and they got me in the same day. My stylist was Michelle, and I knew pretty much right away that the experience would be perfect. She asked what I was interested in and I gave her a general idea of the hairstyles I like. We were on the same page right away. I told her that I like to give my stylists creative license to do what they think is best...they are trained to do the job, after all. Michelle carefully explained what she had in mind, and all systems were go. Throughout the entire process, Michelle was very friendly and personable. 30 minutes later, I left with one of the best haircuts I have had in a very long time. Michelle said that if within a week I notice any issues, I can come back in and have it fixed free of charge. Major bonus. The shampoo, cut, and dry normally costs $25, but with an online coupon from their website, I paid $22.40. Perfect price! I'm so relieved I've found a local salon and stylist I can count on. I feel like I finally found it! Originally, I just needed to find someone who could cut hair and be consistent. That turned out to be Rachel. I tried two other salons and a barbershop--three cuts at each place (nine cuts) and all nine cuts were wonky. Rachel fixed what the barbershop guy hacked up. Now, through about five cuts with her, she's given me a youthful style that has looked good every time! It's more than just a haircut that keeps me coming back. I wanted to get my wife something nice for her birthday, so I got her the 'Deep Release' pedicure and bought a visit for me, too, so we could do it as a couple. We got Hanna and Amanda and they were great--so friendly and fun! The sugar scrub, foot mask, massage and even polishing (yes, I did--why not?) were relaxing and enjoyable. Oh, and the wine they served us was also quite delicious! That was in fall and my wife wanted to come back, so we were able to sneak in another pedicure just before the holidays. After another enjoyable visit, we knew pedicure season would be ending, so we booked facials with Hanna and Amanda--neither of us had ever had a facial. Now we have enjoyed two really great facial visits that were great ways to find relaxation at the end of stressful work days. She recommended a pricier brand and one that is a bit cheaper which was really nice. She always reminded me that if it doesn't work, I can return anything within 30 days, even if it's been used. When I went to checkout, the cashier was also super kind. Throughout my time there, many different people asked if I needed anything which I really appreciated. I couldn't bear exposing myself to the trolling of the Sallys, and I had no hope of any better treatment from that store so I drove to Kent to try a different location. As I mentioned, Sally has always been great--- the employees at the Howe Street store just intentionally gave me bad advice and lied about products when I asked questions. My eyesight is poor and I need assistance with small print. By the time I got there, it was closed and I threw my hands down in frustration. I saw Ulta across the parking lot and I started walking. A woman who was involved with a customer at a curbside pickup told me they were closing soon. I asked if I was allowed inside. I was masked. She said "oh sure!" She followed me inside and when I turned abruptly to face her she jumped back and warded me off. "Too close!" She yelled. "I don't think you will find anything you want here." She continued. "Thank you." I replied. I walked away feeling her breath on my back. Five-ish short frantic minutes later I seized upon "Anime" a delightful blue dye from Lime Crime's Unicorn Hair line. I had rushed through the clean, well-organized shelves easily finding my prize. I briefly considered a few other purchases, but the unpleasant woman made me feel unwelcome and I just wanted to leave. I found the checkout. A woman stood in line ---arms overflowing with goods. She tried to wave me ahead of her and little bottles started bouncing to the floor. "You have a right to your place in line" I said with a smile. "But..." "And no one would want to stand with all of that rather than put in down on the counter. Please" I made sure that my genuine smile was evident, "go ahead." And she did. Now the awful woman came up to a closed register. An apparent friend of hers came right up to her, they pressed their heads close together and cooed about some item. Then they looked at me. Both clacked their tongues. "I suppose I can take you here," Misery sighed. "I suppose you can." I replied. "I will need your phone number and id for your rewards." "I don't have a card and I will never shop here again." "You can give the points to someone else." Disturbed that she might be suggesting herself or her friend, I pointed quickly at the still checking out nice woman who had been ahead of me in the line. "Give my rewards to her." I happened to run into the nice woman in the parking lot. She told me her own story about the strange behavior of the unpleasant employee, who had ignored her as she shopped and then walked up to her as she stood waiting for someone to come to the register and asked her, as she stood with her arms full, "did you find everything okay?" The employee had then turned and walked away. She had not offered a basket nor had she opened the register. "I spend a thousand dollars a month in there and now I don't think I want to go back." Here's why to go in: clean, well organized aisles and a smattering of every category. Is Ulta still the JC Penny of beauty? Yes. But... * if * you know what you want, this store will have *something* that ticks the boxes.

Decided to take a chance and get a new 'do, taking my shoulder length hair to very short and add in a few highlights.
