Fringe is the salon that I always go to when I am living in Kent. I had found it my freshman year and have been going there ever since. They offer top-tier services and have well-trained hairdressers. I usually just ask for a trim and an eyebrow wax and they always do a fantastic job. I've also gotten my hair colored before by Nicole and she did an amazing job, I just think looking back on it that the color wasn't for me. But she's great for blondes. Everyone there is always super friendly and seem genuinely interested in getting to know me. I usually have a different person each time and they all have been super kind. Do not get fantasy color here. I stated in my request for a consult that I was looking for an exact shade of blue. I mentioned it several times during my consult and even provided a photo. I was told only after the stylist was over half way done with my foils, that they did not carry the color I asked for. They had another light shade i couldve built off of to get me to where I wanted but she pushed for darker blue. I said a small portion of dark mixed with the blue might get me closer to what I wanted but I still wanted it light. I left with a dark teal because I didn't want to go any darker and make it hard to go light again. read more

I had my first appointment here at Fringe this past Saturday with Megan W, and I was very happy with my cut and style. I booked here based on the great Yelp reviews and really just took a chance on letting them choose a stylist for me. Before I get into the great work that Megan did, I'll start from the beginning. First, don't get turned off by the kind of bleak exterior. It is really nice inside with a cool industrial vibe. Fringe texted me about 15 minutes prior to my appointment letting me know that I should check in via text and wait in my car until they were ready for me. Once I got the text, I walked in and was promptly greeted by the woman who took my temperature and shampooed my hair. I wish she had introduced herself, because she gave me a wonderful scalp massage while prepping me for my cut. Then, I met Megan who was super kind and chill. She consulted on my typical cut/style (as my hair had gone quite a while without a good cut). She walked me through every step that she was doing to get my requested style (which is pretty simply, low-maintenance). She was very conscientious of starting slow and ensuring that she didn't take too much off. I'm not typically one to really style my hair, but she put a nice little loose wave in it that I got a few compliments on during the day :) She showed me the products she used when I asked but did not try to up-sell, which is definitely a plus for me in my books. On a side note, I saw a couple of men getting cuts while I was there. The stylists were doing a really good job on those as well. Let me start off by saying this place is amazing. This was my first time at Fringe. I was a little nervous with a new girl doing my hair and how it would look. I came to my appointment where they called me to inform I could come in the salon at my appointment time. I came in and was greeted by the receptionist where someone took my temp and I sanitized my hands. There was also a basket of masks in case customers forgot theirs. I was greeted by Megan, who was so warm and welcoming and put my mind at ease. I came in to get balayage, Brazilian Blowout, trim, and my eyebrows waxed. She explained every step and was so informative. She was as excited as I was to see this transformation, which says a lot about her pride and devotion in doing hair. We started out with the balayage, which Megan explained that May look more yellow but not to worry she would be placing toner on my hair. Then we moved onto the Brazilian blowout process where Bri came to help. She was so kind and gentle on me and told me to let her know if she was being to rough on my hair. I appreciate her kindness. Bri helped blow dry me and straighten my hair during the Brazilian Blowout. Then I went to the shampoo bowl where toner was placed and I got a trim and style. I was not prepared for the results. They are simply stunning. I will never go anywhere else. I already booked my next color appointment. Ive never had a salon experience like this ever. This salon has everything! read more

A must-try!!!!! Amber is great. This is the most adorable, convenient, clean, comfortable, friendly, and professional salon! Requesting an appointment is so easy! I requested an appointment online on Fringe's website and I received a confirmation email for the appointment the next morning. When I arrived, I couldn't believe how adorable this salon was. I checked-in for my scheduled pedicure a few minutes early so I waited in a comfy lobby seat, but before I even left the front desk the very friendly staff offered to make me a cup of tea or coffee! She made me a cup and brought it to me in the lobby seat! So sweet! My entire experience was enjoyable and my pedicure was perfect for many weeks! I scheduled a little girls pamper day with my two daughters. We had the three amazing nail technicians, Christie, Jennifer, and Kate. They made the experience. I had an appointment around close to closing time. Emily had always done a good job on my hair before she came here. Since she been doing my hair here the last 3 times it has not been the greatest. I gave here the benefits of the doubt, strike 1, strike 2, strike 3, now I am a easy going person so I try again and strike 4. I do not know what going on , but she lost sight of the shore. She can talk the talk , but not the walk. I showed her a picture if you have trouble remembering what it looks like ask, but no went and shop my hair so short, I can not do anything with it, unless I wear a hat or scarf until it grown back out. I started going here when I moved to the akron area because it seemed like a nice establishment. I have received 1 perm and 1 eyebrow wax here. The perm was a nightmare (and I have experience getting perms so I know the difference between a good one and a fail) and the technician literally RIPPED my skin off during the wax. It was painful and horrible. When I left and found a new salon, one customer had the same name as me and I would get all of that person's confirmation emails. I called them AT LEAST 5 separate times to make them aware of the mix up and to get it changed, they never would. So frustrating. I started going to Fringe after I had my hair cut really short by another salon in the area. I wasn't happy with my cuts at the other place and thought Fringe would be a good place to try. Lynn is who cuts my hair now at Fringe. She is so friendly and patient. She listens to your ideas and wants. She analyzes your hair type and tendencies. Each visit she gets better at cutting my hair because she knows it so well! I've never loved my hair more than this year that I have been going to Fringe! Especially if you have really short hair, ask for Lynn! As for the atmosphere - can't be beat. The receptionists are always friendly. You're offered coffee, tea or water while you wait. I picked this place because it seemed like a nice mid price ranged hair salon. However, I got one of the worst haircuts I gotten in a while when I went here last month. There were peices of my hair that were around half an inch longer than the other peices and my bob was longer in the back than in the front of my head. That being said my hair has some light curl in the back so unless the cut was off significantly before it sprung up, the back shouldn't be longer than the straight front of my hair. This little gem of a salon is tucked away in the Oregon Trail Plaza in Stow. My two girlfriends and I visited for mani/pedi girl session a couple of weeks before a wedding. I hate to admit it but while I have a loyalty to my hair stylist in Green I follow special deals for my nails. Groupon was doing a special at Fringe so we all decided to go together on a "girl day". An added aspect I enjoyed was on their website you can fill out a "appointment request" form and someone will get back to you quickly via phone or e-mail. First off, the Fringe people are FABULOUS. Not only were they able to get all 3 of us in for mani/pedis at the same time, they seemed sincere in the effort to help group us together. They had two girls working on us and they were so friendly and it almost seemed like the 5 of us had been friends forever and were just hanging out. They were extremely patient and had genuine suggestions for nail color (let's be honest 3 mani/pedis are going to take awhile). While we were there my two girlfriends decided to get their eyebrows waxed as well after the nails and the girls at Fringe were only happy to help. Not only were the girls at Fringe extremely awesome, but the salon atmosphere was comfortable, open, and inviting....all elements I associate with a relaxing day trip to the salon. The salon is in a shopping plaza, but it looked like they had expanded into two stores so the whole salon is open and airy. The elegant decor made me feel as if I was at a high price salon. I would love to go back to Fringe solely for the inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. It's a place I could get loyal to about my nails. However, the prices are a little out of my limited budget. Prices are not crazy high, but like I said I really feel like I can only justify a mani/pedi when I have a special deal of $40 max for both. IMPORTANT READ ! Absolutely do NOT recommend spending your money here. Let me start by saying I know a lot about hair, I have colored my hair just about any color you can think of and have managed to keep it long and healthy. I went in and asked just for black roots (mind you I had finally achieved a gorgeous almost platinum blonde all by myself), I wanted to color my hair pink because I was over the blonde and didn't trust myself to blend in my roots. I told her as soon as I sat down I had just bleached my hair the week before getting ready to apply the fashion color. She had another girl shampoo my hair but failed to mention that I needed to stay blonde. When I got up from the chair my hair was a nasty grey and black. The black had run through all my blonde hair. In a panic she tried to fix it with a 40 Vol bleach bath. Which I new was a horrible idea, because you don't use 40 Vol for a bleach bath especially when I had just bleached it previously, and she knew that. But I decided to trust my stylist with 30+ years of experience which ended up being a horrible and regretful decision. When I got back to the chair she managed to get all the grey out, but my roots were now black and brown. My hair started to break off in pieces and she tried to tell me it was the product she put in. It most definitely was not. I started to cry in the middle of the salon looking at my hair breaking off, all she said was I needed to be quiet. Assuming because it made her look bad. the texture was absolutely horrible. My hair is completely fried at this point. All she did was hand me a mask and sent me on my way. There was absolutely no sympathy from anyone there. At that point I just wanted to get away from her. Me and my mother both contacted the manager Jennifer. This stylist had COMPLETELY ruined my hair. I spent hundreds of dollars on products to try to ease the breakage and was basically forced to cut off about 6 inches which is years of growth. So reasonably, I expected some sort of compensation. Free trims, treatments or something but I was offered NOTHING. Infact, the manager Jennifer was completely condescending and seemed to not care at all. She tried to claim I never told my stylist I had just bleached it which is completely false. I truly believe she lied because she new just how badly she ruined my hair. It has been about three months since this incident, and I have continued to spend ridiculous amounts of money to keep my hair from continuously breaking off. This will take years to recover from and grow all the hair back that I had lost. I don't think I have ever written a bad review my entire life, I'm 20 years old and have worked in customer service, and I would never write a bad review from one experience but it was genuinely shocking how horribly her and the manager treated me when I asked for some kind of help with the hair they completely ruined. After this I asked around on Facebook if anyone else had had bad experiences and the replies were endless. I had I believe 7 people tell me they had bleach damage and breakage. And many people tell me how their cuts were botched and they simply didn't get at all what was asked of them. All I know is that if they mess up your hair, they will not help you. They will not have any sympathy for you. I strongly advice taking your money elsewhere. And anyone is at risk considering I asked for black roots and left with irreversible BLEACH DAMAGE. This has been a HUGE blow to my self esteem. So if your hair is at all important to you, do not go to this salon. read more

In 3 months time Anna was able to achieve that for me, and my hair is still in perfect condition!!! I also got a Brazilian Blowout from her. Now I have to say I was skeptical, just because it's super pricey. However, I couldn't be happier!! My hair looks and feels amazing, and is so easy to manage. I had a very positive experience at Fringe. I was there for both bridesmaid hair styling and make-up for my friend's wedding- both the hair stylist and make-up artist were very receptive to your wants/requests (they really listen carefully) but also did a great job with alternative suggestions. Both hair and make-up lasted all day and thru the night at the wedding. The salon is very open space and was perfect for the 10+ ladies that were a part of the bridal party/family. Went to salon for a hair color change. I am happy with the way the color turned out, but very unhappy with the damage and breakage I'm experiencing now. To remove existing color, a bleach bath was applied to my hair. While blowing it dry to prepare it for color, the assistant used a bristle brush, pulling and tugging on my hair the entire time. Additional color and more bleach for highlights were then applied. I would expect an experienced professional to know that you don't run a brush through just bleached hair since it may cause damage. read more

I'd been here once before for eyebrow waxing, but today I went in for a haircut. Based on the friendliness and professionalism of the staff alone this place deserves 5/5 stars and after the amazing haircut I got from Kelly, I wish I could give more. When I scheduled my appointment there was a miscommunication between myself and the receptionist and I was accidentally booked for a waxing appointment instead of a haircut. The manager, Jennifer (?), was very sweet and apologetic about the miscommunication and went above and beyond to make it right. They were still able to get me in about an hour after my original appointment time and even offered me a complimentary manicure while I waited but I opted to just go run some errands and come back. I don't usually write reviews but I was so impressed with the way they handled the situation (which wasn't even that big of a deal to me as I also work in the service industry and understand these kinds of things happen sometimes) that I thought it necessary. When I went in I knew what length I wanted and that was about it so I told my stylist to just go with whatever she thought would look best and it was EXACTLY what I hoped for! Thanks, Kelly!
