10 words: 'this place is only in business because of the view.' No, but seriously, my experience here was horrid from the moment we walked in. We came in with a group of 9 and asked to be seated. The hostess just looked at us with a blank stare, then finally said she was going to set up the tables. She came right back and said, "I have two tables next to each other, but I can't combine them." After some pushback, they agreed to push two tables together -- but made us do it. We then mentioned that we were here for a bachelorette and that's why we were sitting there, and the hostess was like, "Oh! You should have said something when you asked us to push the tables together." Like um, no. You should be welcoming no matter what. From there we ordered and multiple orders were wrong. They brought out quesadilla that were DOUSED with pepper on top. (Who does that?!) And they brought two "cheese" quesadillas out that actually had chicken. They also forgot to bring out onion rings that someone ordered and the server pretended she didn't forget them and that they were coming out right away. Like sure, if "right away" is in 20 minutes. It took 10 minutes to get pop refills. We waited over 15 minutes to receive napkins. They put the cutlery right on the table (without napkins or placemats under). They messed up almost every single receipt. I got charged for for the quesadilla they were supposed to take off AND a beer I didn't order. However, at that point we had been there over 2 hours. The table behind us also had an issue and sent back their food because it was disgusting. The woman asked to speak the manager, only to be told that the manager was the cook and therefore was unable to come out. Comical. Legitimately comical. Moral of the story: if you choose to come here, do it for the view -- and prepare to grow some grey hairs in the process. read more

Good food at a decent price. The restaurant is very clean with very nice decor. I was here for dinner on a slow night (Tues and rainy) but the outside deck area had several groups of people. We went here to celebrate my father's birthday. We heard that it was right on the water so we thought it would be nice. This place is right on the water, but...... We were seated right when we got there and seated on the balcony. The view of the lake was not the best. It is at the end of the lake so all the water at the the end is all algae and smells. We ordered our drinks, 3 Ice Teas, 1 Mt. Dew, and 2 waters. When we finally got our drinks, they ran out of Mt. Dew so I had to order something different, Lemonade. They only brought 2 Ice Teas because she forgot the 3rd. The 2 that got the Ice tea took one sip and spit it back out because it tasted so bad. So everyone that ordered Ice Tea got something different. When I finally got my lemonade it tasted like water with a little flavor of lemon. I can not even give a star for the drinks. Now for the food. My wife ordered the fried pickles and corn nuggets. She informed them that she would like this with everyone else as her meal and not as an appetizer. I ordered the Chicken wrap. All the food was brought out together. My wife's food was cold, so I am thinking that it was made as an appetizer and sat in the window till everyone else food was ready. My chicken wrap did not even have any chicken in it. It was just lettuce and sauce. No one around the table had anything good to say about their food. So no Star for food. The one star is because we got seated so quickly and they staff was nice. I understand that it is not the wait staffs fault for not having enough employees to take care of all the people that may come into the restaurant but someone else should have come out and help. First thoughts. This place has a beautiful view of the lake with docks underneath the deck where mostbbn of the tables reside. I got to walk the docks and take a plethora of beautiful pictures of the mountainside and lake with a perfect sunset. I walk in and i am instantly greeted by the bartender. Well, I am sure you saw the number of stars I gave and you may be confused as to why I gave 1 out of 5. Please join me on this journey of disappointment as I explain why you will be sorely disappointed after your hopes and dreams being elevated by the beautiful landscape. I was with a party of 11. I get it, you may get nervous that there are so many people at your table. We were all a little tipsy, but are and were still respectable, professional millenials that fall in the age range of 25-33. Maybe you don't want to deal with that all at once, or maybe you are nervous that you will be left with a poor tip. But would you ever card every person and take their order, just to stop at the last, oldest person at the table suspect that their ID was fake? So, being the respectable, understanding individuals we are, the owner of the ID in question happily supplied his credit card, conceal carry permit, and then of all things, his SOCIAL SECURITY CARD. In my head, i am all like "Bro, he got the credentials, he is good". Apparently, a federally issued identification card has less value than the fact that your son is the same age as the guy in question and looks like Walter White. Basically, we all were able to put an order in for beer and wine, except for the oldest person at our table (P.S. he is so dreamy). We all wanted to leave, be he was okay with going a meal with not having an alcoholic beverage over his meal (Dude wtf?). Whatever, at least I get a beer. Right? WRONG!! We sat there for 20 minutes without getting our drink. Eventually (much to my apeasement) the group found another local restaurant and decided to leave. Single file, like the brave, heroic soldiers of the vietnam war, we walked through the dining area to leave the building. The waitress and bartender were talking to each other and saw us leave, but decided to not say a word. Was she happy that we were leaving so that she would have an easy night? Was she realizing that she made a mistake and figuring it was already a lost cause? I don't know, because i don't have the mindset of a waitress. Also, i can admit that i was wrong. I once hit on a girl at a bar, knowing 100% that she was underage and had a fake ID. Jk, she was actually 33 and proved it with her ID. Oh look, I saw a government issued identification card and realized that I was in the wrong when I assumed the wrong age. Turns out, she was also married so I didn't get laid anyway. Sawmill. So this place has received some bad reviews over the years so it's time for an update. The views here? Come on now! Lakeside and the option to dine outside! Points for that alone! Inside all wood everything! Log cabin meets sawmill meets Adirondacks! What's not to like?!? Ok food great! Pizza was fantastic! More than I'd ever expect from a restaurant! It's light, and tasty. The sauce is superb. Still not a Buffalo pie but very well made. Kudos! The y also make a nice sized mixed drink here as well hint hint. What this place does need help with is staffing. To me they seemed slow and unorganized. Not sure if they where new or part time help. As bad as that was everything else makes up for it. I'll stop on back again on a summer ride. read more

The view is stunning. Well worth the rather so-so food. The decor is nice, exactly what the name suggests. The wait staff are part professionals and part summer kids working hard. We were not in a hurry and the staff responded by not pushing us through dinner which was very much appreciated as we wanted to take in the view as long as possible. There is nothing exciting to say about the food. I was disappointed that the staff, without consulting me, substituted French fries (badly prepared) for home cut and cooked chips. The brisket I had was dry. My husband's burger was "fine". The pizzas that were coming out and going to other tables looked great. While they have a full bar, the bartender might be up to Gin and Tonic or Jack and coke but don't ask for anything fancy like a Gibson. read more

An awkward time for an awkward party, this meal could have gone a variety of ways. We were an eclectic group of Manhattanites, Midwesterners and Connecticut Preppies and our party of seven was anything but easy to please. The Sawmill sat us immediately upon walking in at 5pm (we also called ahead) on their covered patio with a breathtaking view of the lake. For appetizers, we devoured the day's special bourbon & brown sugar wings (nicely sized, crisp crunch met with a moist meat inside -- not a fan of springy, spongy wings so these were comparatively divine) and crispy artichokes (bread crumb covered and accompanied by a killer dill sauce). Our entrees encompassed a variety of pizzas: chicken/artichoke/pesto (fresh and flavorful), pepperoni/sausage (thick cuts of hearty meat) and Hawaiian (pulled pork replaces the typical ham for a fun change). These pies had a brick oven smoke with the crispness of a pan pizza and generous amounts of cheese. Each small pie was shared by two people with enough leftover to take home. The burger was grass-fed, beefy and very juicy (though ordered and cooked well-done) on a perfectly toasted bun. The side of hand cut potato chips were the ideal compliment. The menu warns the possibility of a slow kitchen, but early in the evening we weren't hindered in the least. The manager came by twice to check on us - always appreciated. Frankly, I wouldn't have minded a slower kitchen, as more time surrounded by this relaxed vibe and serene view would have been enjoyed by our unlikely entourage. Location is great - south end of Canandaigua, overlooking the water. They only had a 'BBQ buffet' on the day we were there. This meant 7 dishes laid out on banquet tables. Brisket in ketchupy 'BBQ sauce', a bean mixture, cornbread....ummm...a couple other things... It was like BBQ night at the old folks' home. Come here for the view and outdoor seating! Large outdoor area overlooking the south side of Canandaigua lake, shaded enough to not feel like you have to squint through your whole meal. The decor is all-wood-hewn (note.. name of this restaurant) with saws and such. On Sundays there is a BBQ buffet instead of the regular menu. The buffet was OK, if the food were more exciting this place could have something really special going on but it was alright value the way it was. We come to Canandaigua about once a year for vacation. This time we tried the Sawmill and we weren't disappointed. We were there on a rainy Tuesday and only one of two diners in the entire establishment. We started with fried pickle spears which were delicious then I had a chicken Caesar wrap and my partner had a burger. Mine was good, but the burger was the best! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and visited our table often. We also met the owner Monica and she helped us with some boat docking options. Overall I highly recommend this place. The owner is extremely rude. As she was seating us, she said "Do you have patience? This isn't fast food, you know." We asked her what she meant, and she said the food would be at least 45 minutes. My husband and I exchanged glances, and she stopped us and said "If you don't have the time, then we stop here. I don't do one star Yelp reviews." I told her I knew it wasn't fast food and that I had been to a restaurant before. She didn't like that comment, and threw our menus down on the table and walked away. Stopped by on our way out of the area after vacation. The location is beautiful--- stunning actually. Food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. I recommend the chicken sandwich with the pesto mayo. My kiddos enjoyed the pizza as well -- a small was enough for two 10-year-olds to share. Honestly without a doubt this is my favorite place to head to get a good meal. I love the atmosphere of the place; it fills the very core of my soul with happiness! If that's not enough, the view is PHENOMINAL...yep, this is the only place in the world I know where I actually look forward to the wait for the food to arrive, as just looking out on the lake is wonderful, especially on a bright and sunny clear day. The view is unbeatable and is really the only thing that would get me back. The service is abysmal. Don't order an appetizer...you won't get it. Service very slow and forgetful. This is a good place for drinks but if you're hungry eat before you go. It takes FOREVER to get simple food like hot dogs and hamburgers and I was there when we were the only customers. Don't waste your time! We have tried this place twice and both times has been the worst service we have ever received. Waited over 30 minutes for our drinks after asking for them twice from the server who was hanging out socializing at bar with the other server. When our food came before our drinks and we asked them a third time they were very rude and told us to be patient because they have had a bad day. I'm saddened by the negative reviews as this place is one of the highlights of our annual vacations on Canandaigua Lake. We go at least once every year and have a fantastic time each time we go. It is a must go place in our opinions. It is not fast service, but its not a fast town & that is part of its appeal. Woodville is a sleepy little town on the south end of the lake that overlooks a stunning view of the surrounding hills. The water is often serene at the end of the lake & the boating traffic is light. The ability to boat up & dock at the restaurant is a huge appeal & our preferred method of transportation on the lake. Having a local place to boat to & eat adds to this restaurant. We usually get burgers there which have consistently been very good. Their fried pickles appetizer is also particularly tasty. We sit on the porch overlooking the lake and, as I said, the view is incredible. It is very shallow at that end of the lake, so vegetation should be expected. Again, I don't know what the negative reviewers were expecting from this place, but for what & where it is, it deserves every star! read more
