That is the businesses fault in dropping the ball on taking her availability off and on my way to the appointment I'm told there was no availability there were no accommodations provided and the phone operator was blatantly rude. This was our first visit and I was hoping it would be the new salon for me and my daughters since it was so close to our home, but sadly I can't recommend this Tempe location. We had two appointments this day, one with Desiree, who my older daughter said was great and her cut turned out cute, the other stylist sadly was this gal named Tosha. This review is mainly for our experience with her and who I presume was the manager. Tosha was very blunt, rude and was quickly dismissive of the style we were asking her to consider for my daughter's cut. No explanation just straight up said no she can't do that cut. So I asked if there was another stylist that can cut her hair and she got defensive and started to explain the why. Ok, so she could have just started with that instead of being so damn rude. She then tried to look for a "more suitable" cut for my daughters hair and when she couldn't find one, she settled with the original photo I shared, but with a disclaimer that my daughter would need to put in some work to make it look like the photo. She proceeds to inspect my daughters hair and she suddenly stopped and fetched who I assume is the manager to look at my daughters hair and they both agreed that my daughter had lice, the manager was so certain that she condescendingly insisted that lice likes clean hair and it had nothing to do with hygiene and started suggesting treatments and that there are lice clinics that could help with these things. Yada yada. Mind you, this was all in the presence of my daughter and other clients, which in hindsight was completely inappropriate. I tried to share with both of them that my daughter, sometimes doesn't rinse the product well enough and causes residue and flakes, but they kept insisting it was lice. Tosha started to remove the cape off my daughter's shoulders and she couldn't get her off her chair fast enough. Tosha didn't say "sorry about the inconvenience" and no "offer to come back as soon as it's take care of". I was so livid and I felt bad for my daughter. Since I naively thought they were be able to tell the difference between dandruff and lice, (I should have asked if they were trained to screen lice instead) we did go to a clinic immediately the same day and they had confirmed that my daughter had, cradle cap aka dandruff which is completely normal in teens. If I didn't take the extra time to do this, I would have bought all kinds of lice treatments and treated my daughter for an issue she didn't need. Anyway, I was drawn to this salon based on the glowing reviews, but don't be fooled. They didn't even allow me to leave a negative review on their website, saying I'm not allowed to leave a review for a salon I've never visited, so here I am on Yelp. I have shared screenshots of my appointment and payment and lice free certificate as proof. I am probably going to receive a defensive response from the owner after this. I had set up an appointment the same day and they informed me that there would be $100 fee if I canceled which I completely understood. However, when I got to my car, I had seen that someone broke into it before I was able to get to my appointment and I tried to call and let them know and they didn't seem to care so I had to drive to them with a bunch of glass in my car and hurt myself so I wouldn't get charged $100 and even when I did show up and showed them that someone really broke into my car they didn't care. Then the girl who did my hair I literally told her do NOT do a straight cut on my hair., and what did this girl do , a freaking straight cut, I paid almost $100 for a haircut after not getting a haircut for two years because people like this ruined my hair. if you don't know what you're doing don't cut someone's hair. I will definitely never return to this location. My hair is still recovering from this horrible place. I came in with beautiful long hair that's healthy and she just chopped it. She didn't cut it the way I wanted it at all. There was not even even a single layer in my hair. She practically just cut it straight along the bottom. One of the worst haircuts I've ever received. From the moment Emily refused to wash my hair, I started to feel uncomfortable. She seemed to be in a bad mood complaining about her schedule. She curled my hair at the end and I thought it looked ok. A couple days later I straightened my hair and saw how ridiculously uneven my hair was. I typically like to write reviews after I've visited a few times, but this review is well-deserved. The receptionist "assigned" me to Tony as I needed a new stylist. This business is around the corner from my house. What a score! Tony took the time to really discuss what I wanted and made several suggestions. I have a lot of coarse, grey hair and a square face shape. I can't go too short in the front and he agreed. I came away with soft, bouncy hair and felt like a new person. He did a great job of blowing out my hair and I loved it. Pricing was very reasonable for what I got and the salon is five minutes from my house. Double-score! I called to schedule and appointment and luckily got to talk to Tony why I was going in. My hair is dulling so we decided he'd do a glaze to brighten it up. I have been a client of Heather's for almost 5 years, and I have loved her work every time I see her! I am typically blonde but stray away every once in a while, and Heather is fantastic about helping me to visualize any new cuts/color I want to try out. I've also enjoyed watching the other stylists' work (which happens when you're sitting in a chair for hours every 8 weeks). Everyone seems to do a great job, and everyone is so friendly! It feels like a second home. As far as the space, it is beautiful! Heather has put a lot of work into the new salon, and the decor is classy and chic while still being comfortable. The haircare line they carry is Seven, and everything smells/feels amazing. I have referred a few friends to Heather and they've all been very happy. If I could choose NO stars I would. I was a new client to this salon. Was not happy at all with my service so I sent an email to ask a question concerning my unhappiness with my service there. And here it is. I was just there to have my hair highlighted and a haircut. However, the haircut looks terrible in the back. I was told when I was paying that there is a guarantee and that if something was not right that I could come back without extra charges to have this fixed. I do not see anything related to this on your website. Now if this is true, do I have to see the same stylist to have this mess cleaned up? Because that is truly NOT an option for me. This was my first time there and I truly was NOT happy at all, especially being there from 1-6pm (not a good first impression). Never in all these years that I have had my hair done has it taken longer than 2 1/2 to maybe 3 hours at the most. The blonde highlights are more white than blonde (since the product was left in my hair for so long) that I now look washed, super pale and over processed. But I can let my hair grow out and fix this at another time. The cut especially in the back of my head does not look good and I have tried several different ways to make this work. So I am not sure what the heck happened with the stylist that I chose from reading the BIOs on the your website...talk about shell shock. Very deceptive that was. I called and asked to cover up highlights, they offered all over cover, which is fine. At the beginning of the session, my stylist said to cover blonde you have to do two colors to build it back up or whatever, bc blonde strips it. Got it, extra $10/$20 is fine. Then I hear her asking another stylist where something is, and then she comes out and says she is going to use a new color brand so just one coloring is needed. Hmm... ok. After letting it sit and washed, stylist says she can see blonde coming thru and to call back later in the week for another coloring session. Cool, I appreciate the honesty, but what happened to 2 colors the first time? Idk. For the cut, yikes! I show her a pic of short hair I had 3 yes ago. What she gave me is really odd, layers seem to be in the wrong spot. I have zero confidence in my hair now. Could I call and ask for more coloring? Probably. But I paid $160 for 1 poor all over color and horrible layers, so I'm really hesitant to call. Plus, if I walk in, won't why all talk bad about me? Like oh there's the yelp reviewer... why did I pay if I wasn't happy? My stylist was nice, and I was in shock and wanted to gtfo. Can I have my money back please? When i went elsewhere to get my hair fixed after it was ruined at the Savvy Stylist my new stylist told me my hair was full of harsh lines and that whoever did my hair previously greatly underestimated the project. "The foils started out good but you can see once they got to the crown area they got lazy and sloppy". I got home that day and no one could even tell my hair had been lightened. Regardless of whatever canvas i came in with that day an experienced stylist should not have allowed me to leave the way i did. I understand i had dark colored hair, my end goal was not to be platinum. $300 WASTED and 3 months later I'm still dealing with this. Keep my money, you're obviously very proud of this "work". I'm bummed to leave a bad review for this salon. I came here back in January after waiting a year for my hair to grow out from a bad cut at another salon. I don't remember who cut my hair, but she gave me a gorgeous cut. I was very happy with it, so I brought my teenager for her first real salon cut. And again, I was happy. My layers had grown out and my ends were damaged from too much summer blonde. I scheduled a cut and a color with a different stylist. I knew they'd have to take my hair a bit shorter because of the damaged ends. My hair is wavy/curly so I asked for some long layers, just past shoulder length. She gave me a blunt bob, that barely comes to the top of my shoulders when straight. Do you have any idea what a short, blunt cut does to curly hair??? It's not good! At the salon, the stylist did a half-assed job of blowing my hair out. The roots were still damp, and again, because I have curly hair, it was frizzy at the roots. I don't know about you, but when I drop that much on a cut and color, I think my hair should look brag-worthy when I'm done. My first thought when I saw it close up in the car was that I couldn't wait to go home to wash and blow out again. My frizzy hair when I left the salon was embarrassing. I ended up using a flat iron to try to fix at home. I washed my hair 3 days after it was colored. You can see my roots and gray again! I would expect a salon color to last more than 1 wash! I called to cancel my appointment scheduled for a few weeks out. The woman didn't ask if I wanted to reschedule. If she had asked, I would have rescheduled with a different stylist. I told her about my experience with the previous appointment. She said she'd have the owner, Heather, call me back. That was 2 days ago and I haven't heard from her. I know business has been rough due to the covid closures. I figured I'd give the salon an opportunity to make it right before I left a crappy review. Do yourself a huge favor: DO NOT GIVE THIS OWNER YOUR BUSINESS. Why you ask? I had to schedule an appointment with this salon as my current hair stylist has gone AWOL -- unfortunately. In addition, it had been three months since my last haircut, so I desperately needed a cut. The stylist I booked butchered my hair, didn't listen to a word I said and could've honestly cared less that I was a potential new client. What's worse? She was unvaccinated -- this coming out as I had worn my mask inside the salon from start to finish, because, you know, I care about the safety of others. She stated she wasn't vaccinated and asked if I wanted her to wear a mask (I said don't worry about it as I was too furious to take the mask/anti-mask conversation further nor did I want to cause a scene in the salon). I ended up paying for my "haircut," but have disputed it. If by chance I don't get a refund, I'm okay with it as I'm filing a complaint with the Arizona Board of Cosmetology. The owner stated via email: "Vaccination is a personal preference as is mask wearing and is not a requirement with the Arizona State Board or the state of Arizona. There are also privacy laws to protect people and their rights." What she fails to comprehend is that the Omicron variant is spreading like wildfire and she's putting the health and lives of her staff at risk and more importantly, her customers by not using common sense to show compassion toward people around her. She could honestly care less. Is this someone you want to give your business to during a worldwide pandemic? I can't believe she would allow unvaccinated stylists to see clients without informing them of their vaccination status beforehand.  It's plain stupidity and ignorance. Just because the state allows people to choose to wear or not wear a mask shouldn't justify her response -- it's more about doing the right thing than anything else, which she clearly hasn't done. On the Savvy Stylist Yelp page, she lists "Masks Required" and "Staff Wears Masks". That's funny because not a SINGLE PERSON was wearing a mask. See attachment before she changes it. Update: 10/15/22: Owner has now updated her Yelp listing just like I thought she would -- now there aren't "check marks" next to the "Masks Required" and "Staff Wears Masks" as there were a day ago when I screenshot them. She's a liar liar pants on fire! I caught you! REFUND MY MONEY! She's also not registered with the BBB of Arizona. Save your money. Support a business that cares about the safety and well being of others and isn't about putting you, your loved ones, family and friends at potential risk of COVID. I've got to give a huge shout out to Jessica! She is a god send! Found her just in time before I had a nervous breakdown after a horrible experience that left me with a bad highlight job from another salon. I contacted her and sent her pictures of the mess that was my hair and she was so gracious. She assured me that it would be ok and she would help get my hair back to a color I'd be comfortable with and in a healthy way. And she was able to get me in very quickly. The whole experience was just amazing. You can just tell that she takes her craft seriously and I have to add, the support that the other stylists give one another is beyond reproach. So I really loved this place the first time I went. My cut was perfect and looked amazing! Covid hit and I wasn't able to get back for over a year. My first visit back I saw Kayci. She did a good job but her attitude sucked. She was cordial but really gave the impression she was uninterested/did not like the cut I chose for myself. I was so excited to try something different and personally loved the results, her attitude about the cut made me a bit self-conscious and I was hesitant to return. But I decided to give another stylist a try at the salon instead of finding somewhere else to go. Big mistake!!!! This time I saw Tosha. She was so nice and I enjoyed talking to her but the cut I was left with was not the cut I wanted nor was it remotely close to the cut I showed her before she butchered my hair. It was about 2 to 3 inches too short and it was not evenly cut... She even had me show her the length before she started cutting and it's nowhere near where I showed her. Needless to say, I have been crying for the last hour because it's so short there is nothing I can do but wait for it to grow out. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this salon, not even in an attempt to have it fixed. I will say that a friend of mine has seen Michelle and her hair turned out amazing! I came from the Los Angeles area to visit my mom and was fortunate to be able to get an appointment with Darian. I showed up with some awful red "low lights" and a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like. Darian took the time to listen to me and really discuss my frustrations with my current hair. She then walked me through what she thought I was asking her for. Then when we had a game plan, she repeated it to me so we were both on the same page. I have been coming to the Savvy Stylist to see Gabriel for three years now. I came to him after having a bad experience at another salon. Gabriel was able to fix my color and cut to my liking. I'm always hesitant when meeting a new stylist. Gabriel made me feel at ease since our first appointment. He was the first stylist to explain and demonstrate to me how to properly blow dry and style my hair! I know it sounds silly, but this made a world of difference. I can *almost* style my hair as good as he does :-) I have unruly baby hairs and he taught me how to take care of those when doing my own hair at home.
