Tip: This store has lemonade in various flavours. The lemonade is in cups in the fridge. You simply grab whatever you like, pay, and go. Last month, I was picking up an item and shopping at the Arts Market on the Danforth. I was here after work on a Tuesday. I had parked in front of The Samosarie. I headed to my car after doing some retail damage. I looked at The Samosarie and wanted to check it out. There was a sandwich board outside that said it had lemonade. I wanted some. It was open till 6 pm. I had five minutes before it closed. Should I be that dreaded customer who dashes in at the very last few minutes of this store's business day and place an order? Yep, I did. I wasn't proud to do it, but I'm glad that I did. I apologized to the woman behind the counter for barging in so late. I wanted a drink and looked at all the lemonades in the fridge. They were already pre-poured into branded cups. Genius! I love blue raspberry and got the blue raspberry lemonade. Done! I then looked at the colourful samosas. I should get six. I got two each of the following samosas: - Amaranth beef curry samosa - Island blue jerk'd chicken and kale - Truffle mushroom panzo All samosas were packed with filling. They run on the smaller side if you're used to the massive traditional Indian samosas that are stuffed with lots of potatoes. The colouring on each samosa is different, but they are easy to distinguish flavour-wise. The amaranth beef curry samosas were yummy. It had good beef flavour mixed with with the spices. The Island blue jerk'd chicken and kale was delicious. You barely tasted the kale, but you got your greens in with the best jerk chicken. The truffle mushroom panzo samosas floored me. It had the most amazing truffle flavouring that enhanced the mushroom mixture. If I had to select a favourite samosa out of the batch, it would be the truffle mushroom panzo. The woman behind the counter saw that I had a lot of stuff from the Arts Market. She got me a tray to put my samosas and my drink in. I appreciated it. I paid for my goodies with a credit card. I tipped because she was so patient with me. The tray helped immensely! She noticed my nails and said that she liked them. Cool! I wished her a great evening and I got out of there by 6 pm. Yikes! The tray got me and my stuff safely to my car. I loaded everything in it and made my way home. I sipped on my blue raspberry lemonade as I drove home. II loved the blue raspberry flavour with the slightly tart lemonade. It had a touch of sweetness, which I appreciated. I don't like sugary lemonade, which is the main reason why I avoid lemonade drinks at Starbucks in general. I'm so glad that I dropped by this store, albeit super late. I look forward to returning to get more colourful, yummy samosas and another lemonade. (293) read more

Small place on the Danforth. Pretty good option for party finger foods. My favorites were the spanakopita and the bean & cheese. Service was really quick. No seating. They also sell frozen which i think is better for the price. read more

With the plethora of places selling samosas out there in the GTA, The Samosarie stands out for having visually appealing (colours of the rainbow) and unique fillings. Their samosas are smaller, non-deep fried, non-oily, non-greasy, and taste healthier, lighter, and also (in my opinion) more delicious compared to the traditional samosas that are heavy in spiced potatoes inside. In addition to samosas (the triangular shaped ones), they also sell empanadas (half-moon shape) and pakoras (round shape) with various fillings. All of their samosas are handmade, gourmet, and many are dairy-free, egg-free, peanut-free, treenut-free, soy-free, and 100% halal. There are lots of vegetarian and vegan varieties. These are great for parties, picnics, potlucks, and social gatherings. They do catering and delivery as well. I like that they have a visual menu that lists the fillings / ingredients of each coloured samosa / empanada / pakora. Fillings / menu offerings range from Sunrise Masalada Dosa, Vegan Green Saag Paneer, Garlic Aloo Gobi, Carbon Caribbean Sweet Potato (made using charcoal so it's black in the outside), and Truffle Mushroom Panzo (one of my favourites), to Bean & Cheese Empanada, Spanakopita (but different than the traditional Greek kind with phyllo pastry outer layer), Cheddar & Potato Pierogi, and more. Other flavours include Jamaican curry, Jamaican jerk, Mexican mole verde, and amaranth curry. Trendy, colourful, instagrammable, Samosarie is lots of marketing genius while still being pretty good. Lots of fusion flavours so stay away if you're a traditionalist. Main problem I have is how mashed the inside is, so tastes blend. Best eaten right away so its piping hot - otherwise gets a bit hard. Half a dozen samosas (albeit small ones) at $7 is reasonable. The perfect spot to grab some apps for a gathering. This place has never failed me and the taste is always consistent and a solid hit with my guests. I never have any leftovers ever! They are a bit different from traditional Indian samosas but very unique in the sense that it's a healthier version, no added colour and interesting fillings. You won't be left with a greasy feeling after eating a few. The service is quite and efficient since it's a small space. They also have dips, seasonal drinks and soups, the drinks are good and the one lentil soup I tried was very nice too! Definitely a must try if you're in the area! read more

I get no joy in writing a bad review for anyone. Writing reviews is something I almost never do, whether the service is good or bad, because I honestly rarely care enough, and don't really have the time. But in this case I feel like it's important Why? Well, I'm vegan, for reasons of allergy and food sensitivity. Have been for 15 years. I carry an epi-pen at all times, I get anaphylaxis, and whenever I have to use it, guess what? Paramedics and ER visit, friends! I won't bore all of googleland with my medical details, as it is nobody's business, but the TLDR is I have spent way too much time in hospitals and have way too many allergies and sensitivities. So I have to be careful with what I eat. My purpose in writing this review is as follows: So that people with food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities double/triple/etc check their food when they receive it, as it may be incorrect and not match what is listed out on your label, as was the case for me. The restaurant has a colour-coded handout, and the owner seemed to insinuate it was my fault for not double-checking this before I ate; but I expect the job of correctly filling orders to be the job of employees, not customers. The TLDR? I was given meat by this establishment, via an Uber Eats order. I ordered a dozen assorted vegan samosas and within that dozen decided to try a vegan patty for the first time. Since I'd never tried it I didn't know what colour to expect. A yellow patty arrived. As I ate it I was like, Oh, this must be one of those fancy fake meats - it's pretty convincing! I only ordered the one, and it was tiny, I had some weird digestion but nothing too crazy, didn't think anything of it and thought it was just a junk food thing. I was in the mood for another samosa and the patty, and so I made another order - this time it turned up as red patties. Hm, weird. The inside also tasted different. I checked the restaurant's Instagram page and saw an image with the patties of diff colours, labelled. The red was labelled as vegan, the yellow as beef. I asked the owner on Instagram if the colour/dye for the vegan patty had been changed at any point, he said no. This is how I realized I was fed meat for the first time in 15 years! I'm not anaphylactic to beef, lucky me - and the patty was so small/not filled with much, that it was beneath my 'this is really bad' intolerance reaction. So I didn't really get sick. I could have, though, if the quantity had been different, and I could have gotten sicker still if there was another allergen of mine in there that also fits under the non-vegan umbrella. I feel nauseous, disgusted, violated, physically repulsed - anyone with serious food allergies and intolerances will know the feeling. I'm hyper cautious but this time I decided to trust the restaurant, trust the label, trust the employees. Apparently, that was a mistake in this case. I understand that mistakes happen, employees are imperfect, blah blah - I'm a business owner myself, I have people who work for me, I get it - but flippancy and lack of training around food and allergy/intolerance/sensitivity is so, so important. You don't know why someone is ordering what they're ordering. It's best to assume they're ordering it for a reason, and that they don't want things to be interchanged without some sort of notice. If something is sold out, fine, just say so. Don't replace it with something else without a word. I did reach out to the owner on Instagram - who I am sure will reply sassily here, though I truly hope not - and I was unsatisfied with the response. I was offered an apology "if" it happened, as well as a $20 gift card, lol (I decided not to take this gift card). The food here is decent, I would rate it probably around 3.5-3.8/5, which is why I've been a customer many times - but I won't be coming back. I take this kind of thing incredibly seriously with my food; I don't want to worry about whether staff have been trained on something as simple as putting an already-made item correctly into a bag. read more

The dough.......so flaky, so luxurious in flavour and tinted beautiful colours as if they were the savoury cousins of macarons. And then the filling......the tastebuds in your mouth are elevated to yet another level of experience as subtle, complex, loving blends of spices and flavours overflow in the mouth. I popped in to get what looked like very colourful samosas. They did this mini ones in a rainbow of coloured dough. Got the chicken curry and Allo goobi (potato) ones. Unfortunately very bland, the stuffing was over minced. The dough was pasty and not crispy. Going to stick with sultan of samosa on O'Connor. Not traditional samosas by any means, more of a fusion place. I still found them delicious and fun! They also make empanadas that are incredible! Service is AMAZING. The range of colours look great at a party. I appreciate that their spicy is ACTUALLY spicy.
