I had a group lunch here today and it was a great experience…read more We had a party of 6 and there was no wait to get seated at 1pm on a Sunday. They only serve food from 12pm-3pm on Sundays and it's a special menu. Staff was attentive and checked on us regularly. Ollie(sp?) took our orders and there were no issues with special requests when our food arrived. What I ate: - Smoked duck breast appetizer - The duck breast was tender and moist. It paired well with the potatoes and crispy pancetta. The sweetness from the dressing added a nice counter to the saltiness of the dish. - Roast topside of Passmore farm beef - I had to get my fix in for roast beef and Yorkshire pudding meal. The beef was served in slices and was almost soft enough to cut with a fork. The Yorkshire pudding was fluffy and light. It was also a large enough portion to go with every bite of roast beef and gravy. Delicious! - Ginger cake - The cake alone was good, but it was the combination of the cake and the clotted cream ice cream that won me over. It was excellent and I licked my plate clean! I also took bites of food from a few other people. The roasted pork with cracklings was good as well as the caramelized rice pudding dessert. The entire group was happy with the food and service. Everything I ate felt like English comfort food and I am considering coming back for another meal to try out more of their menus. If you get a chance to be in Angmering, I highly recommend you give this place a try!

Check in took awhile. Staff blamed it on a busy lunch time crowd and the Pub was full. After…read moreabout 10 minutes, the pub/hotel manager checked us in. We were somewhat early, check in is 1400 hrs and we were there at 1300. Our rooms were ready so that was a positive. One hazard to watch for is the very low door jam of the pub. I guess in the 1700's when the building was constructed, people were a lot shorter. It would be a good idea to remove your cap before entering especially if it has a bill. The rooms are clean, comfortable and very nicely designed and furnished. We were in the James Penfold room and it was perfect. The amenities are standard, a couple bottles of wate and some tea and coffee pods. Since electrical outlets are restricted in the bathrooms here, a standing mirror is near the bed with an outlet close by. Our room was downstairs and directly across from the Pubs entrance. I would recommend asking for this room if its available. The other rooms are upstairs but one advantage they have is you can remain inside the building when going down to the Pub. This helps if it's raining like it was when we were there. We would certainly stay there again. The staff were very pleasant and we even got a chance to speak with the owner while waiting for our taxi.

They have many guest beers to try as well as the faithfuls like Harveys. They host an annual beer festival in honor of St George which is coming up in late April. There's plenty of old fashioned pub games like shove the penny, cribbage and dominos. Do be ware though! Morris dancers frequent this establishment on a regular basis!

We intended on doing a Worthing pub crawl but didn't think we could better the relaxed atmosphere in here or the Summer Lightening so we stayed all night. This place deserves it's spot in The good Beer guide with four well kept ales spanning the colour spectrum from golden to mild, and the inclusion of everything that is traditional about the British pub. The bar staff were efficient and friendly, it was quite busy mid afternoon but I was still served quickly. This is a small place with no food and no frills but with loyal punters, many of whome spoke to us and said how much they loved the place! I wish I lived nearby as there is an exciting callender of events including choirs and morris dancing. And it's well within walking distance of the station and dogs are allowed.
