NEW OWNERS ARE AWFUL!
This place changed hands in Early 2013. I had the honor of eating there when the previous owners were there, and it was truly amazing.
For old times sake, I thought I'd give the new owners a go. The place looks exactly the same, and I thought, maybe they hadn't changed much. It had been, after all, really delicious before.
WRONG.
The only thing they didn't change about the food was the prices. I paid £7.25 for cod and small chips, with a tartar sauce. At the old quality, it had been well worth it. But the new owners clearly seem to think that people don't notice that you've replaced what used to be a quality product with crap, and still charge the same for it.
Did they think people were paying that much just for fun?
We can begin with my chips. They were actually wrinkly. Dry on the inside, and soggy on the outside. Some looked like they had been previously burnt. Definitely not recently fried, and I'm quite inclined to think they were either microwaved, or perhaps just under the heat lamp since yesterday.
The cod. Oh, the cod. I remember seeing the old owners in the mornings, unloading their fresh, tasty load every single day.
Not anymore. My cod was at least a day or two old, probably more. Maybe it had been frozen, I'm not sure. The texture was weird. Although they did actually bother to deep fry it on the spot (unlike the fries), the bottom was somehow a bit burnt. It tasted overly fishy for cod, and the batter was over-cooked. When I picked it up there was a literal puddle of greasy oil dribbling out of the bottom.
The grand finale were the 4 lovely needle - like bones that I luckily managed to pull out of my mouth before they punctured my esophagus. There may have been more, but I gave up half way through.
You may think I'm over exaggerating. I've included a photo (in the photo section) to prove that I'm not. I honestly thought it was so bad that it deserved a collage
