Cute place. The server was adorable. And then... we ate the food. There were four of us. We all ordered the haddock and chips. The chips were hard, too brown, insufficiently salted, and had a "leftover grease" taste. The fish was dry, coated thickly in batter that wasn't light and didn't seem fresh. Could it have arrived at the restaurant frozen?
The tartare sauce was nice. The curry sauce was fine - but it's difficult to ruin curry sauce. My mushy peas had little discernible flavor, but too be fair, I barely had a bite: while these peas looked as though they'd been mushy at one point in their journey to my plate, they had now hardened and solidified, and were crusty and drained of moisture. Pretty awful.
After the YouTube videos and the raves on Trip Advisor and Google, I am genuinely mystified about the disconnect.
The final icing on the cake was the price. Haddock and chips here is more expensive than at the infinitely superior Golden Union in London. Quite sad to have wasted my sister-in-law's money on this atrocious meal. read more
