There's a huge garden to accommodate large groups and there's plenty of room inside the place too. The staff and owners are really friendly and can't do enough to make you feel welcome. Food wise, I can't recommend the steaks enough here. They source the meat locally and you can tell the difference in the flavour. The Sirloins are fantastic and the chef really knows how to cook it to order (you'd be surprised how many don't. Perfect place to head to on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

The Thatched Inn will always hold a little place in my heart. Aside from the great impression it…read moremakes on pulling into the car park, due to the exceptionally maintained thatched roof, it is the 'pubiness' that makes it a winner. Located on the fringes of Hassocks and overlooking a beautiful stretch of Sussex countryside (great for a post Sunday roast walk to preserve the waistline!), the pub has the advantage of space that Brighton establishments sometimes lack. You would be hard pressed not to find a parking space and the same applies to seating within. The pub provides a cozy bar including a pool table if you fancy stopping by for a swift pint, the 'Keymer' bar for a more relaxed beverage and a large, yet homely dining area if you have come to eat. I will come back to the food in a minute. In the summer, the expansive secluded garden is perfect for children to bomb about, or for those summer nights when the weather is pleasant (of course, a bit hit and miss in this country!). The menu is wide ranging (check the website for a current list of dishes) and offers traditional, quality pub food. A lot of the produce is locally sourced and cooked to order. Sometimes this does mean that you wait a little longer for your meal, but the wait is worth it in such a nice environment. This is a great pub to consider for a Sunday roast, especially if you live in Brighton and have access to a car. They will happily take bookings and also cater for private parties in the dining area. I would have liked to see a wider range of ales on tap, but they do try and keep a local brew or two in rotation. Aside from that, expect your regular range of alcoholic tipples on offer. Many moons ago, in my youth we used to walk to the Thatched from Burgess Hill for our Friday drinking sessions and I would still make that walk! I guess the one negative is the location if you are without transport, but if you do make the pilgrimage from the station, I believe you will be glad that you did.

They only serve food from 12pm-3pm on Sundays and it's a special menu. Staff was attentive and checked on us regularly. Ollie(sp?) took our orders and there were no issues with special requests when our food arrived. What I ate: - Smoked duck breast appetizer - The duck breast was tender and moist. It paired well with the potatoes and crispy pancetta. The sweetness from the dressing added a nice counter to the saltiness of the dish. - Roast topside of Passmore farm beef - I had to get my fix in for roast beef and Yorkshire pudding meal. The beef was served in slices and was almost soft enough to cut with a fork. The Yorkshire pudding was fluffy and light. It was also a large enough portion to go with every bite of roast beef and gravy. Delicious! - Ginger cake - The cake alone was good, but it was the combination of the cake and the clotted cream ice cream that won me over. It was excellent and I licked my plate clean! I also took bites of food from a few other people. The roasted pork with cracklings was good as well as the caramelized rice pudding dessert. The entire group was happy with the food and service. Everything I ate felt like English comfort food and I am considering coming back for another meal to try out more of their menus. If you get a chance to be in Angmering, I highly recommend you give this place a try!

We were somewhat early, check in is 1400 hrs and we were there at 1300. Our rooms were ready so that was a positive. One hazard to watch for is the very low door jam of the pub. I guess in the 1700's when the building was constructed, people were a lot shorter. It would be a good idea to remove your cap before entering especially if it has a bill. The rooms are clean, comfortable and very nicely designed and furnished. We were in the James Penfold room and it was perfect. The amenities are standard, a couple bottles of wate and some tea and coffee pods. Since electrical outlets are restricted in the bathrooms here, a standing mirror is near the bed with an outlet close by. Our room was downstairs and directly across from the Pubs entrance. I would recommend asking for this room if its available. The other rooms are upstairs but one advantage they have is you can remain inside the building when going down to the Pub. This helps if it's raining like it was when we were there. We would certainly stay there again. The staff were very pleasant and we even got a chance to speak with the owner while waiting for our taxi.

It is absolutely beautiful and traditional inside with all the wooden beams etc. We were greeted quickly and sat right in the back by the lovely wood burning fireplace. The menu is amazing and has so many options, it even has a lot of options for vegans which surprised me but it's very good. To start I had the tiger prawns and garlic bread, Both were extremely good. For mains I had the special which was a fish pie and it was hands down one of the best things I have ever eaten. I now dream about this pie and want to fly back just to eat it. For pudding I had apple and sultana crumble which to be honest I didn't like the crumble part, it was too sweet. The service here was very friendly and helpful but at times a little slow, which I didn't mind but could be frustrating to others. I would highly recommend this pub to eat at, the food still doesn't disappoint many years later! Definitely a nice place for socializing too as it is nice and quiet inside so you can actually have a conversation at dinner which is something I always struggle to find nowadays.

I could not recommend the pasta dishes, however. Drab and wishy washy. Drinks can be a little expensive. John Green Ifnm writer 15/10/11 Welljust shows you how things can change!! Returned with the same friends and had a disappointing evening. Gammon done to death, egg rock hard and shrivelled. BBQ chicken that was more cremated than BBQ'd and salad poor standard. However, my lady friend said that the Lasagne was really nice. We must say that the chips were proper and tasty., The coffee was excellent. One star only because of the Christmas Tree was pretty!!! Bit early.
