Hot and runny venison scotch egg with pickled fennel was crisply delicious as was the chargrilled white asparagus, crunchy poached egg and Alba truffle mayonnaise, while haloumi also came crisply battered with a herb-filled dipping butter. A decent-sized plate of mussels was made more interesting with the addition of rice and chorizo in the broth, but the slow-cooked, smokey beef brisket was the star of the show, closely followed by some of the best triple-cooked chips ever eaten. Running an award winning inn in Vermont USA we have high standards and Emma who is front of house knows her onions, and Dotty her wonderful hairy companion was the cherry on top of the cake! The 2 rooms offered as accommodation are simple but very comfortable, but the bed we found to be very springy...which was not uncomfortable but unusual for us, as we are used to a firmer mattress. However we slept well, and also heard little noise from the busy pub downstairs. The bathroom had a great soaking tub as we were upgraded to the larger of the two rooms. To sum up: The breakfast was freshly cooked with a cracking local sausage and bacon on offer, but also on offer was a simple selection of fresh fruits, yoghurt and homemade bread, so we started each day well. I had dinner there one night with the bride and some family and we all enjoyed the dinner. In particular the homemade scotch egg and sardine appertisers were fantastic. Every dish was prepared with passion and William is a chef with creative and consistent culinary style at the top of his daily routine. The pub also serves delicious pints of ale...which I had to partake of! As we were there over a weekend the wood fired pizza oven was burning and my they make a bloody great pizza! So if you want a great meal, and want to consume a few drinks, book a room and stay over....you will not be disappointed!

The Sunday lunch is meant to be pretty good here so we're drfinitely going to try that one day. They also rent rooms here, prices differ depending what time of the year but the rooms looked really nice.

The decor is flamboyant, with railway sleepers forming part of the bar. The pub is also part-restaurant. We were sat in the 'library' which is cosy with painted shelves of books on the wall. There is a bizarre looking model who is scarily life-like as an old waiter carrying a tray! The wine was nice, the food also. I had sausage and mash and the sausages were locally made. We all had a different type of food and were happy with our choices. Another of our party had fish which was cooked prefectly and another had a Thai noodle curry, which was spicy!!! The management are attentive and asked how we were getting on a couple of times, but not too much to be annoying. There was a roaring fire going and games such as Dominos that we could play. My absolute favourite part of the pub is a free jukebox with CDs. All in all, it's a novelty pub with a homely atmosphere. It is modernly decorated with a classic touch. Had a lovely lunch here mid-week…read more Enter the old pub, that has a real community feel - locals at the bar and some hand-carved walking sticks for sale against the wall. A good selection of real ale, sets off the old beams and friendly land lady. Moving with pint in had to the large garden overlooking the south downs way (see photos) we soon had steaming masses of food arriving. My lamb with apricots and apples was sumptuous. The liver and bacon my sister had was adequate, but the fish pie was a real winner, salmon, prawns, white fish in a creamy mash. Mmmmm. By the piles of benches stacked against a barn it looks like it gets very busy in the summertime - and according to some locals it "isn't as good as it was before it was discovered" but all in all a great lunch and think it is a great find. Jill brought us to The White Lion joking that, being only 400 years old, it was practically a brand new pub! We came in (mind your head), and were immediately sat down at a big, groaning, family table! Water was served, beers and ciders followed, and then meat pies and fish and chips were ordered all around! This meal was absolutely delicious in the way that only homemade country pub food can be. The cider selection was excellent, and we left refreshed, happy, and ready to take on the rest of our day (mind you, we ALL passed out cold in the van after Stonehenge and on the way back to our hotel)! This pub has recently been re-opened by a professional couple who sold their last pub/restaurant to…read morea previous winner of Masterchef. They moved into the area and wanted a new project. The pub had been purposefully run down and tee-d up for closure by the previous owner, and in fact half of the pub and half of the car park had been turned to residential use. Luckily, they couldn't sell the pub itself for residential use and Nick and Tina Irish bought it. They have lovingly restored the pub using a 'reclaimed' wood effect throughout. The decor is bright and contemporary. There is a good buzz about the place and it's now a very comfortable place to take a drink or just grab a bowl of chips. The Pub is a free house and keg beers are on offer for the discerning as well as the usual range of Lager. Tip: If eating go for the House wine. As all house wines should be, it is a cut above the norm. The restaurant is pub fare with an upmarket touch; and prices are reasonable for the area. We had the Fillet of Bass which at less than £13 is definitely reasonable, and arrived on a bed of crushed new potatoes and salad drizzled with a balsamic dressing. Bosham itself is a famous landmark and boasts a beautiful quay which is popular with visitors from all over the UK. The White Swan is a mer 3 mins drive or 20 mins walk to the quay
