The decor is flamboyant, with railway sleepers forming part of the bar. The pub is also part-restaurant. We were sat in the 'library' which is cosy with painted shelves of books on the wall. There is a bizarre looking model who is scarily life-like as an old waiter carrying a tray! The wine was nice, the food also. I had sausage and mash and the sausages were locally made. We all had a different type of food and were happy with our choices. Another of our party had fish which was cooked prefectly and another had a Thai noodle curry, which was spicy!!! The management are attentive and asked how we were getting on a couple of times, but not too much to be annoying. There was a roaring fire going and games such as Dominos that we could play. My absolute favourite part of the pub is a free jukebox with CDs. All in all, it's a novelty pub with a homely atmosphere. It is modernly decorated with a classic touch. I would not hesitate to go back and would recommend it straight away.

A good selection of real ale, sets off the old beams and friendly land lady. Moving with pint in had to the large garden overlooking the south downs way (see photos) we soon had steaming masses of food arriving. My lamb with apricots and apples was sumptuous. The liver and bacon my sister had was adequate, but the fish pie was a real winner, salmon, prawns, white fish in a creamy mash. Mmmmm. By the piles of benches stacked against a barn it looks like it gets very busy in the summertime - and according to some locals it "isn't as good as it was before it was discovered" but all in all a great lunch and think it is a great find. It's a little tricky to get to, narrow country roads, etc, but we'll worth it. If you wanting to eat I would advise booking and this place gets busy from the second it opens. The restaurant's menu changes all the time depending on whats fresh in that week but I prefer to head straight for the seafood bar where they have a huge selection of oysters to be enjoyed with either a pint of Guiness or a nice bottle of Macon. Keep an eye out for special offers as they have a hotel here to and often offer some great deals on food and a bed for the night.

The beer garden is huge and can seat plenty of people so perfect for a nice long lunch in the sunshine. Food wise they serve some really good home cooked pub food. The salads especially are top quality. Try the chicken ceasar - the dressing is very moorish indeed. Plenty of choice on the ale front and not a bad wine menu either.
