The local beers were room temperature as was to be expected. Being an American I am very used to cold beer. The flavor of the beer was so good I almost did not notice the lack of cold...almost. I guess another feature of true local pubs is if they run out of the menu items they are out! First and second options were gone so that was disappointing. The third option was good enough. The service was outstanding in every way. If you are ever in this part of England I would suggest stopping in for a pint and stepping out back for a look over the countryside. The atmosphere is your country Pub. The owners are very friendly and welcome guests and regulars equally with a hand shake and warm smile. I was there on a Friday. The special was Fish & Chips. The perfect lunch time meal. The food is hot and portions generous. Unlike some places The Five Bells serve cod - not halibut nor haddock. The fish is fresh and is paired with plenty of chips. I washed mine down with a half Shandy (I wanted to relive a childhood memory) then I tried a half pints of two of the pub's local beers. Dessert was a 10 year old Laphroig scotch. There's an upstairs that is accessible by a very very narrow staircase which even has handles for support, all part of the fun lol!! Beer: We tried out the Guinness (great pouring process!), peroni, and a local ale which the bartender allowed me to sample. He was very helpful and walked me through the different ciders they had in stock and even how you could add fruit syrups to sweeten the flavor.
