Crispy fish, great portions. Reasonably priced. Just what we want from a local chippy.

I agree that the chips are spot on and I can put a shout out for the battered sausages. They also have a Chinese menu which from what I saw was quite a large menu with plenty to choose from although I didn't opt for the Chinese so I couldn't comment on the quality. They sell their empty pickled onion containers for 50p a tub which I thought was quite funny. I asked if they actually sold any and they said that they sell them frequently! Like the godfather they too are shrewd businessmen. Like Sophie if I am in the Hannover area I would go here first.

However, proximity to the sea, my friend, does not a yummy fish supper guarantee! Therefore, choose wisely friends. If you live near the London Rd, choose Bardsley's. If you live in Hanover, choose the Cod Father. The name alone is enough, surely? So wonderfully cheesy. It's simple wit was enough to draw me in regularly when I lived in the area. And they are more than just a great name too...the chips are really good, which is very important. They are crispy- none of this soggy malarkey you find in other places. The fish tastes fresh and the batter is not ridiculously heavy or overly greasy (don't get me wrong, there is grease, batter is never going to be the healthy option!). They also do great fish cakes and have all the usual picked extras: gherkins, onion and eggs. You can even catch up on current affairs whilst you wait, as they provide papers! Honestly, what more could you want rom your local fish and chip shop? Bravo! 5 stars.

And in our…read morecase this was the second choice as the first restaurant we wanted was fully booked, but honestly, I don't mind and I am glad the first place was book as this restaurant was excellent. The layout is a bit dated but don't let that fool you, with a view of the beach across the street this is a lovely place to have dinner. My girlfriend and I both had grilled fish options. I went with the Salmon and she had the Sea Bass. Both were delicious, although hers was looking up at her with sad dead eyes. We also had some shrimp as an appetizer that was excellent. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that we went in August of 2020 (the era of COVID) and the waitress and others working at the restaurant were not properly wearing masks. The waitress had one on, that she would pull down when talking to us so as to be heard better. Making the mask pointless

We had a little bottle of fizz each, while we were waiting, 200cl like you used to get on airplanes...drinkable, fun experience..£5 each....seriously there is nothing not to like! And nearly everyone in there was a regular or returned every year when on holiday...everyone seemed to know everyone..and you will understand why they comeback...we will Great (unusual) place, run I think by Greek Cypriots...a lot of Greek stuff on the menu too Check it out!

I am currently sitting in the restaurant eating Fish and Chips as a I write this. The fish is so crispy but so fresh on the inside and the french fries are perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great spot to just grab some quick food. We were the only Americans in the restaurant, the rest of the guests seemed to be locals so that must be a good sign. Waitstaff was incredibly nice and the food came out very fast. Would come again!

You can walk in off the street at 3 in the morning, order mussels in a garlic and cream sauce, and finish that bottle of Pinot as the sun comes up: a unforgettable experience for so many reasons. The chief reason to go to Buddies is the fabled Buddies all-nighter: grab some friends, head to Buddies at a reasonable hour, and don't leave until the morning traffic has subsided. This is bloody marvellous, for easedropping potential if nothing else: the people who frequent are an eclectic and wonderful bunch. Last time I did this, a man punched a woman over a dog, some drunk students threw up on each other, and a man proposed only to be unsurprisingly turned down. What do you expect? It's on the seafront, it's open all night: who are they gonna attract? Drunk people and insomniacs, and neither really wants to be there. The menu is huge: most of it is awful. Stick to chips and well-cooked to avoid a premature end to your all-nighter. And if you've been clubbing, and want to stay up, pop in here to end the night with a more sanitary alternative to the kebab dripping down your shirt on the long, meandering walk home.

Its not in the best position to visit on the way home from a night out, and being on Lewes Road, it is a little fiddly to get to however you plan to travel. But if your looking for budget grub, you could do a lot worse. I first tasted the wares of this place when my incredibly hyper mate came back from a house party a little earlier in the evening than I was expecting, brandishing a sausage and bag of prawn crackers. Impressed at the prawn crackers/ sausage combo, I enquired to where he had been. He told me "So So", which I believed was the name of the place until I came to reviewing it! I also thought that the food must be filled with some crazy amounts of sugar or something due to my friends excitable state, but I soon realised it was just the alcohol/ caffeine combo he'd been experimenting with.

Generally, you will be served by a late middle aged Chinese woman, whilst her husband attends to the frying and preparation of the Chinese dishes out back. Her command of the English language is somewhat limited, but thankfully her command of manners, plus good humour are certainly not lacking! I have only ventured onto the Chinese menu once and must admit that this is certainly a chippy offering Chinese food opposed to a Chinese with a few English dishes tacked on. The prawns and rice were simply that and although adequate, were a little bland. This being said, if you want Chinese then go to a Chinese takeaway. The fish and chip menu is both reasonable and mostly cooked to order. The chips weren't too greasy (mark of infrequent oil changing) and the batter is crispy, as well as tasty. You will buy a meal to satisfy the heartiest of appetites for under a £5 (or about £2 if you go for a sausage etc) I would recommend the prawn crackers that they are happy to serve you whilst you wait for your food to be cooked. It's just a shame that it's a bit out of the way and only likely to be frequented by Lewis road residents.
