The Sullivan Pub: A Masterclass in Gastronomic Hostility and Parental Shame…read moreIf you have ever fantasized about being emotionally dismantled in a room that smells like a wet rug soaked in 1970s regret, look no further. My excursion to the Sullivan Pub was not a mere "night out"; it was a psychological endurance test that has left me questioning the very fabric of my 35teen (I'm 47 years young, stay woke) existence. The Atmosphere: Subterranean Sorrow Stepping into the Sullivan is like stepping into a time capsule that has been buried in a swamp. The lighting is tuned to "Interrogation Room Chic," and the decor consists of dust bunnies the size of small rodents who have clearly formed their own complex parliamentary government. I walked in, vibrant and full of mid-life vigor, and was immediately treated like a stray cat at a dog show. The Culinary War Crimes The staff at Sullivan Pub don't serve food; they deliver insults disguised as appetizers. At 300 lbs of pure, unadulterated peak performance, I require significant fuel. However, when the server--a woman with the warmth of a liquid nitrogen bath--dropped my plate, she looked at my majestic frame and whispered that I was "genuinely a disgusting failure." She said "genuinely," so I lowkey started laughing because I caught the reference. Absolute cinema. The Ginger Question & Questionable Credentials Mid-meal, I decided to advocate for social progress. I flagged down the bartender and demanded to know why the establishment didn't have separate water fountains for gingers. I explained that the sun-allergic community deserves their own curated, copper-filtered hydration stations. While waiting for an answer, I noticed a group of youths at the corner table. I couldn't help but notice the IDs they were flashing were faker than my ex-girlfriend's... "thingies." Truly, watching the bartender squint at a card that was clearly printed on a cereal box while I'm being denied basic ginger-equity was the height of cosmic irony. The Grand Finale: The Walk of Shame As the clock struck 9:00 PM, the true climax of my evening arrived. Just as I was beginning to find the "soul" in my soggy nachos, the door swung open. There she was. My mother (50somethingunc). Standing in the entryway of this den of iniquity, she didn't just call my name; she projected it with the vocal authority of a drill sergeant. "GERALD! YOUR COCOA IS GETTING COLD AND THE DEER ARE IN THE HOSTA!" The entire pub went silent. I had to pay my tab while she stood by the jukebox, loudly critiquing the cleanliness of the floorboards and asking the bartender if he knew his mother was disappointed in his life choices. The Verdict I was escorted out--not by security, but by a 4-foot-11-inch woman who still thinks I'm allergic to polyester. I am 47 years young, a titan of my own living room, and yet the Sullivan Pub reduced me to a cowering toddler in three easy steps. Food: 2/10 (The fries were more "weaponized potato" than "side dish"). Service: -5/10 (The "genuinely" comment was top-tier hating, respect). Vibe: Like a funeral for a clown held in a basement. Final Rating: 10 Stars. If you enjoy the exquisite thrill of public humiliation followed by a ride home in a Buick LeSabre while being lectured about your posture and your ginger-fountain activism, this is the spot. P.S. GINGER POWER I'm Arab by the way. Im retiring from pubs. Walahi.

First and foremost, the food was…read morevery good and the menu looked excellent boasting a half price Tuesday burger menu, which I am sure I will be back for. I had the spring menu special pork chop which was very good though lacking the mass I require for sustenance. The main downfall of McCabe's is the overall bland and predictable beer list with only one decent craft IPA on tap (Anderson's IPA which received a 4.5 on Crapper Craft Reviews). While this saved the day the next most intriguing option was...nothing unless you enjoy a Sleeman railside or a Belgian Moon.....No thank you. Beer is why I come to pubs so this certainly knocked a good start off my rating. Secondly the service, which I usually dont give two farts about, was slower than my second cousin Jimmy (bless his soul). All this combined led to a 3 star rating, but I'm a hard ass so take this with some salt. Still one of the better pubs in the city which is pretty sad. STEP UP YOUR GAME LONDON. We wanted to go…read moresomeplace within walking distance of our place downtown, but someplace that wouldn't be filled with students either, and McCabe's was the perfect place, and we headed out around 7:30pm, and when we got there, there was room on the patio for us to sit. Our waiter was super nice, asked us our drink order and we ordered appetizers as well. I ordered a Somersby Cider, and for appetizers we got spinach dip, deep fried pickle spears and bruchetta. All came out first after our drinks and were tasty. The spinach dip was a bit on the salty side, but that was okay, we still gobbled it up anyway. Hanging out with three guys, you know the food is going to be eaten. For my main meal, I got the Buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was really good, super spicy and hot, and the sweet potato fries, were sliced into thick wedges and didn't come with a chipotle sauce like most sweet potato fries do. That was fine, I wasn't able to finish my main meal because of the apps we ordered, so I got a take out box to put my leftovers in for tomorrow. I'm glad we went when we did, it started to get busier and more and more people started coming onto the patio, security guard blocked off the back entrance to the stairs going downstairs to the back for the easier access to the washrooms, so I had to use the front and go all the way through the restaurant. If you are going to McCabe's for a nice drink or night out with friends, your best option is to get their early, before the crowds of students fill up the place for the rest of the night to get the best seat in the house.

Loved the peach beer myself (just the one) and my spouse enjoy his 3 ipa's. Met good patrons, which always tells me about a place. Pickle pizza hit the spot! And to make it 100% id suggest adding Sriracha or ranch drizzle? It needed just one *something.* but also totally brilliant without.

We had been…read morelooking for a brewery in Erie to visit after the Erie Marathon whenever Lavery Brewing popped up on Yelp. This place is large and has both outdoor seating on the side as well as plenty of indoor seating. The inside looked like a mix of cozy and industrial, with a long wooden bar stretching the length of the room, warm pendant lights hanging overhead, colorful beer boards on the wall, and shelves lined with bottles and glassware behind the bar. It had a relaxed but lively feel to it. After looking around to figure out where we wanted to sit, we ultimately chose the bar. For lunch on this day I chose to go with the pimento smash deluxxxe while my wife went with the pesto pizza. The menu described my meal as two smash patties, bacon, American cheese, pimento cheese, and onion rings on a brioche bun while my wife's was described as parsley basil pesto, triple cheese blend, fire roasted tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. I thought that the burger here was delicious as the patties were seasoned nicely and I appreciated the onion rings. While there was plenty of cheese and it was flavorful, I almost could have used more of the pimento. Then my wife liked her pizza here especially the pesto combined with the fire roasted tomatoes. Then for drinks, as I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Lavery Brewing, a flight consists of 6 beers and I chose the Active Recovery, Seeking Clarity, Lime n Cuke, Throwing Tropical Shade, Sound Mild, and Divine Intervention for my flight. I first started with the Active Recovery which was light and hoppy and very drinkable. Up second was the Seeking Clarity which had a clean start before a heavy dose of hops in the middle which surprisingly didn't linger. Third was the Lime n Cuke which has a strong cucumber smell and the drink itself is dry like most goses with a mild lime and stronger cucumber flavor. Fourth was Throwing Tropical Shade and you could really taste the orange and other tropical flavors with a finish flavor of coconut. For me this was a really delicious beer. Up fifth was the Sound Mild which was light but you got the nice flavor of those toasted malts at the finish. Last but certainly not least was the Divine Intervention which had a strong coconut flavor on the finish. Out of the bunch my favorite ended up being the Throwing Tropical Shade. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed the beverages and the food and we left both happy and stuffed.
