Found this place thru Yelp. Trendy old fashioned RR diner from around 1940. I usually don't publish where we eat; however, this exception is because of the quaint old fashioned ambiance. Great old fashioned table service but the short order cook flips his pancakes in slow motion. He must be the owner as the waitress kept apologizing for the wait; indicating the wait was a common occurrence. One couple waited close to 45 minutes for their oatmeal breakfast, (Must have been harvested besides the kitchen prep). The oatmeal was for a Korean War veteran who was far from happy about his long wait. We were getting ready to leave but our order arrived. Hash browns were soft and my wife thought the beacon could have been crispier. Toast and eggs were as ordered. I wanted corned beef hash but when I asked if it was scratch made, I was informed the longed for hash was from a can; tsk, tsk Our waitress was a gem. Offered three cups of coffee before the order arrived. She was a pleasure to over-tip but she had a few years on the Korean War husband and wife. read more

Food is diner fare, solidly done but nothing to write home about. Fabulously cheap, though, and the ladies who work there are very friendly, in a mother-hen sort of way. The old-school diner look is pretty fabulous, and it's a touch heartwarming that places like this are still in business. If you're looking for charm, an old school environment, and delicious well made diner fare, look no further. The Roadside is sure to please. The food is a little better than average but it's the history that draws your attention here. The place is a classic diner with all of its original charm still in place. Gone are the days when you saw little tin diners like this one. Though the hours are not average and neither is the atmosphere you'll surely enjoy your food at The Roadside. Best diner I've been too! Very clean and excellent food. I went with a classic pork roll, egg and cheese on a roll and it was awesome! If you are looking for a good breakfast spot, I highly recommend stoping here! read more

MEH! food was very average. Ordered three breakfast meals. They said you get a free cup of coffee if you ordered a three egg meal and since all three were two eggs I couldn't have one. Petty of me I guess. Eggs and potatoes were bland. Sausage links were fine but can't mess those up. Canadian bacon was the best. Oh and they only take cash. read more

We love this place. One of the few old fashioned diners around. Friendly staff. Especially tall blonde Nancy. Burgers are banging and ur offered frozen or hand cut fries. No Brainer! Get the hand cut! Also have had the corned beef on rye , soups are homemade and delish! And I love when a place is CONSISTENT! Owner/cook always comes out and asks how everything was. read more

This is the worst diner I've been in all year. The service is beyond slow and the waitresses were rude and disrespectful. We ordered eggs and bacon and it took 45 mins to an hour for the food to come out. And they were still rude about it. read more

Classic rail car diner with a friendly atmosphere. There were only two waitresses working, both seemed overworked and frustrated, then again it was New Year's Day. While the food looked great and the waitress kept refilling my cup of coffee, the food was brought to us 40 minutes after ordering, the burger I ordered was overcooked and there was more bun than hamburger. read more

This is THE BEST place to get food. It may be small and looks old but, you are wrong. It has the best waitresses/waiters and service. But, not only that the food has it's very own combinations that make it very interesting. The food is definitely the best and the inside is kind of small but, no one thinks to go there so its PERFECT. I would definitely recommend to go there to eat. read more

At first glance you wouldn't even think that this place is even a diner, just looks like a trailer. But going inside, there was a lot more room than expected. A quaint little place with a lot more people than I thought. The booths were pretty tight so me and my friends sat at the bar top. I ordered a simple order of two eggs and sausage which came with toast and home fries. The food was actually incredible and I was extremely surprised. I had a sneaking suspicion that a small little place like this would serve some decent food. Also the type of place you would see on a road trip in the middle of nowhere, with the exact type of employees you would think (old ladies). Even though this diner is in the middle of a sketchy area, if I ever somehow end up near there again I'll make another pit stop. read more

Classic NJ roadside diner! Great homestyle breakfast. Huge portions. Snappy service. The real deal, operating since 1930's.

Outside is scary, but give this place a chance. Surprisingly good food and atmosphere.

Stumbled upon this place at the right time, after 4pm when the breakfast/lunch beach crowd rolled out. We ordered a couple western burgers and fries - large portions. Props to our waitress for brewing a fresh pot of coffee :). read more

On our recent visit to New Jersey (We live in Florida) we happen to come across this delightful eating experience. We were looking to eat a Pork Roll Egg and Cheese sandwich for breakfast (Which is not available in Florida) and since we were staying in the area our phone mapping sent us here. Wonderful waitress that could not have been nicer packed our sandwiches to go and we were on our way. This trendy diner with the whisper of yesteryear was wonderful. A couple days later we ventured to stop in again, but the parking lot was filled and along the back were parked triple trailer trucks (You know what they say about truck drivers: They know where the good food is) and since the diner was on the small size, we knew there would be no room for us to enjoy another pork roll & egg sandwich before we flew out back to Florida read more

Came her for the first time ordered and waited 45 minutes for the food to come the place was not that busy. The waiter was so rude and kept yelling at people that the food was on the grill. Think she must've said it about 7 times. All we ordered were eggs and bacon not sure how hard that can be to make. read more

Second time around, very disappointing. We sat down at the dining counters, we ask to switch to a booth but none were available, we were offered to wait but I was too hungry to wait,we placed the order & notice two booth open up, we ask to switch. We were given hostile attitude they talked among themselves "yep, I knew that was coming, yep, I knew that was gonna happen Nancy!" Extremely uncalled for, for such a small place to be upset over changing your seating arrangements. Food experience was not the same. Not going back for sure!! read more

I stopped here at 7:30 on Sunday morning. I ordered the hungry man special, which consists of 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, bacon, pork roll, a sausage link, home fries, toast and coffee for $10. Pretty much everything was great. The only nitpick I have is that the home fries were a bit underdone. Service was excellent. The atmosphere of this 1930s manufactured diner was awesome. My husband had been wanting to try this place for a while because Bruce Springsteen went here and I was hesitant in going because it looked old and dirty from the outside. But, there was always cars parked outside. So, we decided to try this place after years of avoiding it! When we walked in, there was a sign on the door that said to slide the door slowly to open. We walked in and it was pretty small but surprisingly clean! There were a a couple of tables with customers when we stepped in. Booths were small and tight. We sat down and ordered coffee. It was weak. I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with potatoes and English muffin. It was pretty good. Hubs had the omelette with swiss cheese, tomato and onions. He had the cheese substituted to swiss and thought it was weird that they charged extra for that. Overall, service was friendly. read more

I don't get these bad reviews. Breakfast is as good as any you'll find. There are always 2 waitresses and 1 cook. Always friendly, courteous, professional. What more do you need with your breakfast? Grow up! read more

First time going to this diner after driving past it almost everyday for 10 years. I was dissapointed. Servers were friendly, but I ordered a roast turkey club deluxe. The sandwich was turkey and lettuce. Tha'ts it. No bacon, no cheese, no tomato, just turkey and lettuce. Where's the club? I wish I could post a pic of this sad looking sandwich. read more
