It seems to be a common theme in the jewelry industry that there's a traveling appraiser that visits each jeweler only once every month or two so it's difficult to get a same day appointment. The Diamond Room gave me a same day appointment and excellent service in their beautiful and private Austin location. But I have to write this review because they went way beyond what I expected. They gave an excellent appraisal of course but also inspected, cleaned and polished my rings. The Crown Jewel is that they use appraisal software that hooks into the top rated jewelry insurance company and my appraisals were automatically connected and within 24 hours my application for a policy was accepted and my jewelry insured. I had already shopped around and the price I was offered was fantastic. And the best part...wait for it...is that I never have to get appraisals every few years. Now that my jewelry is described and documented in the system the appraisals are automatically updated annually. With the price of gold doing crazy things...this is huge...and it saves me a lot of time, effort and money. I'd say that it will actually pay for itself from this day forward. After we were engaged I custom created his wedding band to commemorate his grandfather who had passed away and he wanted his old wedding ring. Matt designed it PERFECTLY I'm now in the process of repurposing some stones from some old jewelry and creating a custom ring! I immediately called and Cat answered, she was super sweet and told me to bring the ring by and have Charles look at it. As soon as I walked in, Charles and Cat were so sweet to me and Charles immediately told me he could fix my ring, he even brought me in back and let me watch as he worked on it. This place is a hidden gem, and everyone that works here feels like a big family! I had a blast hanging with them in back and getting to know them as he worked on my ring--he ended up saving it, it's gorgeous now and everything I wanted!! He really knows his stuff-- a true master of the craft. I also loved meeting Rima who is one of the other jewelers--super cool girl. I will be coming here for all my jewelry needs for the rest of time. If I were you, I wouldn't go anywhere else! No, I said, I just have it. Brian showed me a few ring styles to get an idea of what I wanted (I needed a replacement wedding band). He did a lot of pushing buttons on a calculator and let me know that I could order a ring from them and use the gold I had as credit. It would be the best deal, he said, rather than getting my gold melted down. So it wouldn't be the same gold from the pendant in the ring, but they would accept the pendant as a partial "payment." Sounds great! Brian ordered the ring for me and it arrived very quickly. The store held onto my pendant while the ring was on order and when I came to pick up, all I had to pay was the balance, which was really quite reasonable. This place was quite busy both times I went in, so I was surprised that the owner himself came out to talk to me. I would guess that he loves the custom jewelry making part of the job, because when the first person helping me heard that I was interested in melting down a piece to make something new, she grabbed Brian immediately. All of the other salespeople were occupied with selling the jewelry from in cases. Anyway, the attention I received was really quite lovely and Brian was super friendly. I'll definitely go back if I need something custom made.

On Saturday, when I was out shopping, mostly window shopping, I ran across Avant Garde Jewelers. They have some unique pieces and not the typical run of the mill jewelry pieces. I like that hey have petite pieces as well as more elaborate ones. In addition, they sell natural as well as lab created diamonds. I do not own in lab created diamonds but I do know they are growing in popularity because they test as a diamond and they have a significantly lower price point. After pleasantly chatting with Sydney for a bit, she created a two item wish list for husband. I am sure that the hubs will be rushing down to Avant Garde to fulfill my wish list. Not! He is still recovering from our 25th wedding anniversary.

My wife and I initially went to go get our wedding rings fixed and have the jewels tightened. They did a great job and Tahir gave an extended guarantee on their repairs. When one of the stones was still acting up, he honored the guarantee with no issues and even gave me a temporary ring to wear while my ring was being fixed. He was very responsive with communication over text message throughout the process. When our initial pick up time didn't work out he even delivered the ring to us personally, and he threw in a wonderful gift with it as well! I'll be back! Go here for your watch battery repair, etc. Beware that the owners don't speak very good english, so communication can be an issue sometimes. I asked the young guy behind the counter if he could work on my watch and he said he'd have it done in ten minutes and it'd be about five bucks, maybe a little more depending on which battery it took. While he was toiling away I looked around at the various sparkly things (definitely NOT a lack of those) and after about five minutes he looks up from his bench and goes "Uh, I can't get your watch to work. I've tried a few different batteries, it just won't work." Of course I was bummed out, I love my watch! The reason that I gave this place five stars is because he was honest with me. He said it'd be cheaper to just buy another watch rather than have it repaired and apologized that he wasn't able to just get a battery in it and send me on my way. A+ for honesty, friendliness, and quick service that is affordable. Will definitely be back if I need something else!
