Residents and visitors to Georgetown, Texas: If your first stop to buy, or repair, jewelry is anywhere but Georgetown Jewelry, you are making a big mistake. Let me tell you why. Twice now, I've brought items in for repair. And twice, they have refused to charge me even when I asked them to. Because, they said, "it was easy" Well, no it wasn't easy.....I tried to fix the items and failed miserably. You are just very good at this, and you should get paid for it. Nope, they said. Just come see us again, and have a nice day. As I stood there, in both instances, waiting for them to repair my items, I witnessed the owner and her family provide amazing customer service. Folks came in asking questions, expecting (I'm sure) for the question to result in a transaction and cost of some sort. They provided the answers with clearly no expectation of making a buck off of it. They helped them, because they could and they wanted to. I watched today while the owner herself, who couldn't easily solve one customer's problem....without any hesitation at all....referred the customer to what is without a doubt her biggest competitor here in town. To add to the positive environment, their very sweet and friendly Yorkie wanders the store greeting customers, happy to chat with any customer in the store about their day. I don't know about you, but my overall customer service experience.....across all services and products.....has been pretty crappy for the past few years. I'd love to blame COVID, or climate change, or something *anything* for that change in my experience, but the truth is I don't know. I had several ideas and after consulting with Sean and Cyndee...we came up with an idea to make it mine. Not only did Jordan and Sean work on the rings, they took my ideas and enhanced the set...it's beautiful! I will not be taking it off. It fit perfectly, it's stylish and unique. I would give the owner of this store 0 stars if I could. Something is very wrong with this man! As stated in many of the other reviews, this owner not only has no people skills, but he has rage issues. I witnessed him fly into fury when I did not understand what he was saying about repairing my jewelry. He was hateful and condescending, and even unkind to his dog. I honestly don't know how he is able to retain a business with this attitude. As there are many fine jewelry stores in the area that are in need of business, I suggest you stay clear of this arrogant and self-righteous maniac, who seems to be oblivious to how he comes across to others, and even plays the victim role. WOW! just WOW! these guys go out of their way to do whatever it takes! My wife and I have been very happy for many years here with both sales, repairs, appraisals and everything! I had such an absurdly terrible experience at Georgetown Jewelry that it would have been almost comical if it hadn't involved a vulnerable child. My 3 year old daughter and I were in the store waiting for my watch band to be replaced. We had looked into the display cases, my toddler commenting on all the pretty things, and went to sit in the small two chair waiting area at the front of the store. A young sales associate was in the repair area, working on my watch while an older, more dignified salesman was helping two other customers. Suddenly the older man looked up at my daughter, glared at her and began angrily shouting "NO! NO! We DON'T DO that here! Get your feet off that chair! NO!" This astonishing outburst was because my daughter was sitting quietly, with her back against the chair back, and, being 3 years old, her short toddler legs did not reach past the lip of the chair, so her (incidentally very clean silver ballet shoes) were resting on the seat. My daughter has never been vehemently screamed at by a random adult before and so burst into tears. As if his near psychotic outburst wasn't enough, he then actually LAUGHED AT MY STUNNED 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER and said to the customers he was helping "She's probably never been corrected before" (!!!???????) I took my now sobbing daughter outside, and told her that when she calmed down we were going to go back in and ask the rude man for an apology, but she just kept sobbing "wanna go home, wanna go home." Would not do business with again. The owner is a nut job and very hostile. Threatens you with being recorded on camera, no doubt because his hostile personality that rapidly escalates has caused him grief in the past. The place on the square is much better with a mentally stable owner. Also Round Rock has plenty of options. After having my watch for months and insisting that he had tried to call me without leaving any voicemail (but he had "phone records") he made a nearly $100 repair on a watch we paid $150, without my authorization. My wife tried to pick it up and was surprised the repair was so expensive and he went off on her. He said he was not being hostile and everything was being recorded so her comment "would not hold up in a court of law." Huh? She recounted the story to me and I found it so bizarre I went down to talk to him myself. When he learned who I was he at first said he didn't have time to talk with me, then yelled "I refuse to do business with you!" Huh? I entered thinking I would just pay the repair cost but his gruff demeanor turned that thought into a hurry. He asked me to come speak "in front of the cameras so it would be recorded. " huh? Ok. I guess he encounters a lot of folks who find his abrasive personality annoying. His fix for the problem was to take my watch back to Houston, un-repair it and then mail my my broken watch that he has had since November. Great business model! He obviously does not know how to treat his customers or run his business, He had offered me 5% below spot melting price for 1 ounce gold bullion with assay in mint condition, when I asked him "is there any way you can give me a better offer because I have been offered 2% below spot price from both APMEX and JM Bullion" he got very loud and angry and kicked me out of his store. The owner and his wife greeted me and knew to ask if I needed a pressure test or not. They changed the battery while I waited and charged a very reasonable fee. While I waited, I shopped the jewelry store and was very impressed by the displays that included a broad selection of high quality goods. My experience with Ricky Poe at Georgetown Jewelers was very unsettling. Based on the many other 1 star reviews, Ricky Poe appears to have a history of using customer intimidation tactics, whether to cover his careless workmanship or merely express disdain for his patrons. My summarized story is this: I brought a watch in to Georgetown Jewelers to have a new battery installed. The watch is inexpensive (Skagen) and fairly old, but was in good working order prior to the battery having died. It also happened to be my 88 year-old dad's favorite watch. After the battery was replaced and I brought the watch home, I noticed that the little hand had come loose and was rattling around behind the glass. I brought it back and had the unfortunate experience of meeting Ricky Poe. I explained what had happened and asked could the little hand possibly have come loose when they changed the battery. He then started raising his voice and became visibly agitated. He said he didn't appreciate me walking into his store and accusing him of breaking the watch. He said it was old and cheap and wasn't worth fixing anyway. He said he has video surveillance of all work that's done in the store and he was certain if we watched it we wouldn't find any wrongdoing. I can't remember if I said it or just thought it, but I felt he should do just that - look at the video and see what happened. At this point I started retreating towards the door and tried to stay calm. I am a petite woman and Ricky is fairly tall and imposing. He kept coming towards me as I moved to the door. He was completely unhinged and I felt unsafe. I left the store and will never go back. Sadly, in my case, his customer intimidation tactics were successful, as I do not plan to pursue this issue further. Save yourself the distress and choose another jeweler. read more

I had been a longtime customer of Georgetown Jeweler, but I'll never go back. The owner, Ricky Poe, styles himself as a do-gooding Christian, but actions speak louder than words. I've seen him speak harshly to his son in front of customers, but the last time I was there, I had just received my Covid vax, and conversationally asked him if he had received his. It was as if a switch was flipped. He leaned over the counter and into my face SHOUTED how that was "PRIVATE information", and how he would certainly never discuss his "private HIPAA info with ME." ??? I was so startled and shocked, I couldn't even respond. His wife, meanwhile, stood silent and didn't bat an eye. When my transaction was done, and Mr. Hyde had been paid, his alter ego, Dr. Jekyll, pleasantly called out, "come again!" Are you serious?! Not in this lifetime, buddy. He went to about 10 different jewelers, and none of them would help him the way Georgetown did! He brought in family gold that he wanted to smelter, and no one would do it! Georgetown immediately took it on and used their 3D printing to create the band! The diamond is a near PERFECT 2 carat diamond, and they even worked with my fiancé to design the band perfectly to cover the ever so slight fog in the diamond! Georgetown Jewelry was recommended to my fiancee and me after a jewelry appraisal. We set up an appointment with the owner, Ricky, for a consultation in hopes of selling a diamond engagement set. The world of jewelry appraisal and sales was very knew to us and the prospect of a high-pressure negotiation scenario was quite intimidating. We were quite relieved by the beautiful, tasteful showroom and Ricky's friendly demeanor. Then things got really good. Ricky is very knowledgeable and approachable, he was very honest with his professional opinion on the best way to go about marketing our rings. He was very frank in his assessment of each piece and explained very clearly which pieces he could and could not offer to buy as well as the economic factors guiding those decisions. For what he could buy, he gave a very fair price with absolutely zero haggling. We had a set that simply wasn't economically viable for his business to purchase (due to the size of its diamonds), so he took the time to give us free and valuable advice on how to go about selling the piece ourselves. Ricky and his wife (I apologize for not catching her name) were very patient, enthusiastic actually, in fielding all of our questions, so we left the business with a swelling of confidence and a smile on our faces. While I cannot personally make a testimonial regarding the sale of jewelry at this store (since we weren't looking to buy anything), I must reiterate the stunning condition of the showroom. I am not particularly experienced with jewelers, but I have had to visit about a dozen jewelry stores over the course of my engagement. These shops range from mom-and-pop stores to the big ones with little blue bags. The state of the showroom at Georgetown Jewelry made a great impression on me, it was a very professional, yet comfortable, setting. Fabulous customer service, from the first phone call to the appraisal! I inherited a ring from my late aunt, and since I know nothing about jewelry, I knew I need to have it appraised in order to get it insured. Even from the first phone call I knew I was in good hands--Jordan answered all my questions in a professional, friendly, upbeat manner, and I made an appointment for a sit-down with Diana, the appraiser, who comes to the store on certain days. I'm so glad I made the appointment (rather than just dropping the ring off and coming back later), because I learned so much from Diana about appraisals, insurance, my aunt's engagement ring-- she is terrific! So knowledgeable and thoughtful! I asked her a ton of questions, and she was so gracious in answering them and making me feel like they were good questions. I am so impressed with her. And the whole experience was great-- Jordan was great in person, too. He welcomed me so warmly into the store and cleaned my ring (plus another ring I was wearing...they look like new now! Amazing transformation!). It's obvious from the way this store is run (and from their choice of appraiser, too, who is superb) that this is a family business that cares about their clients in a way that a big chain can't. This was my first experience with these jewelers, and this review is about how my situation was handled.... I wanted to get a watch engraved for Christmas, but the back of the watch already had the brand name going across it. I went to them to see if there was anything that could be done to make this idea a reality. Jordan worked with me and suggested I purchase a sterling silver plate to be engraved and then welded over the back of the watch. They ordered the plate for me ($70 ish after tax) and I took it to get laser engraved ($35). The man who engraved it did a beautiful job, and I rushed the plate and watch over to them immediately after having the engraving done. They called me yesterday to pick up the watch...... It's completely different. There was a problem/accident and the plate ended up getting ruined and they did something different. Imagine going to pick up your order, your jewelry, and looking at something different than what you dropped off! I was SO disappointed and upset. I never received a phone call letting me know what happened or giving me options on how to move forward... they made the decision for me. I spent a little over $100, based on their recommendation, on the plate & engraving. I understand that accidents can happen or things don't go according to plan, BUT I should've been made aware. The job they ended up doing looks fine, although scratched. I'm just so disappointed with how this was handled and won't be using them again and I don't recommend them for anyone. read more

I was greeted at the door - they had just opened by the owner - asking if he could help me figure out how to make my expensive chronograph watch work as I had lost the instructions and had not worn it in years. "NO!!!! he bellowed as if I dare I waste his time! Look on the internet, don't waste my time." I had a ring stolen and so I filed a police report. Being a retired TCIC (Texas Crime Information Center) DBA I visited all the local pawn/jewelry stores in Georgetown to report my ring stolen. The store was locked during business hours. I visited for several days and finally I found someone inside the store letting in only customers that needed something picked up. I reported a detailed description of my stolen ring and I left contact information. They promised to contact me if the ring appeared. I repeatedly called and visited after that point every few days. Then less than 3 weeks later the lady told me that my ring had been sold to them and they had ALREADY SOLD IT. So they sold STOLEN merchandise. I loved that ring and I thought it was against the law to sell KNOWN stolen merchandise. Apparently not! They have been totally disrespectful to me. They made fun of my difficulty making SOLD and STOLE distinction. I am oral deaf (use caption phone). They knew my ring was stolen. 11/2/2018 BEWARE OF GEORGETOWN JEWELRY! I had a horrible experience with Georgetown Jewelry and owner, Ricky Poe. (3010 Williams Dr., Suite 121, Georgetown, TX. 78628). It is three doors down from Goodwill. I took my Seiko watch in because the crystal had a crack and I wanted a replacement crystal. I was told they would call me with an estimate. After two weeks, I received a call that the cost would be $69. It sounded a bit pricey but, because the watch was a gift with great sentimental value, I agreed to the repair. In about a week, I was called to say it was ready. I went to pick it up and paid for the repair, which was $74.69 with tax. At this time, I was told they do not perform watch repair on site and they have a person that comes once a week or so to pick up watches and do the repairs. I was called about two weeks later and was told my watch was ready for pick up. I was on my way to lunch, so just put the watch on without thorough inspection. At lunch, I reached for something and scratched the person sitting next to me. Looking for the cause of the scratch I realized the crystal was visibly elevated and had sharp glass corners on all four sides (watch face was rectangular). I took the watch back to the store within two hours and talked with the owner's son. I explained what had happened and stated I was not satisfied with the repair job that had been done. The owner's son immediately said, so you don't like​ having a raised crystal and you want a lower crystal? I stated it wasn't a matter of like or dislike of a particular crystal style, but it was a matter of sharp glass edges being dangerous and that it appeared to me that the crystal did not fit properly. He took the watch and said he would call when it was repaired. About a week later, Cyndee, the owner's wife, called and said the watch was ready for pick up. When I asked if the ill-fitting crystal had been replaced, she said that Seiko did not sell genuine Seiko watch crystals to watch repair businesses and that the only way to get a Seiko crystal would be for me, as a Seiko customer, to send the watch to Seiko for repair (this is not true, because I called Seiko and was told they sell Seiko crystals to watch repair people all the time). When I asked why I was not informed when I first brought the watch in for repair, that I would not be getting a Seiko replacement crystal, or at least one that fit properly. She immediately said I had to talk to her husband, Ricky Poe. He would not answer any of my questions and insisted that I must come into the shop for him to talk to me. I went in that afternoon and Ricky began to ask me various personal questions, like where I went to church and where I volunteered. I responded by saying that the information was not relevant to the issue. He gave me an option of taking the watch and me sending it to Seiko for repair and IF they could get the crystal off without damaging it and I could return the ill-fitting crystal, he would consider giving me a refund. I said that I felt he should refund the $74.69 so I could use that to get a proper repair from Seiko. I agreed to return​​ the crystal IF I could arrange with Seiko to have them return the crystal to me. I stated concern that Seiko could possibly damage the ill-fitting crystal on removal. He would not respond to my concern. At this point, things took a very strange twist. He looked me straight in the eyes and in an angry tone said, "I think I'm not going to give your watch back to you". Thinking I misunderstood what he said, I asked him to repeat what he had just said to me. Again, he stated, "I think I'm not going to give your watch back to you". Becoming a bit fearful of this bizarre response and behavior, I left the store stating I would call the Georgetown Police. I called the Georgetown PD and waited in the parking lot for them to arrive. I relayed the events to the officer. He asked me what I wanted. I said that the most important thing was to get the watch back. He asked me to wait outside while he talked to the owner. Ricky Poe​ told the officer that he did not have the watch and he would call me within 2 days to pick up the watch. Why would his wife call and tell me my watch was ready for pick up if they did not have possession of my watch? When I picked up the watch, it seemed they had attempted to grind down the sharp edges, which caused jagged glass edges and that process had also scratched the bezel. I took the watch without discussion and left the store quickly out of fear of his potential behavior. I called American Express, which is the payment method I used for the initial charge of $74.69, and initiated a dispute. I explained the situation and that I was not satisfied with the service, non-repair and secondary damage done to the bezel. They took off the charge. Now I must also pay for bezel repair and crystal repair. You decide if you want to do business with them!! read more
