First, her apartment at Ashby is nicer than her condo was at a "luxury condo" in Reston. In fact, it's gorgeous with top of the line appliances and features. Underdeck sink, stainless appliances, etc. Everything that you've ever fought against in your own home has been carefully planned and optimized for the seniors. Even that blind kitchen cabinet has pull out shelves! Second, 6 restaurants on campus (soon to be 9). Doctor's offices, Physical therapy, physical fitness, indoor pools, not to mention all the other clubs that residents start themselves -- like water walking to focus on balance and strength. Third, entertainment on site in a large theatre, smaller media theater, game rooms, plenty of gathering spots where residents play cards, board games, jigsaw, or just chit chat. Finally, staff that really cares. They WANT you to use all of the amenities and they WANT you to stay healthy as long as you can. So they encourage you to exercise and weight train and use your brain. The best part about all of this is that mom feels safe there and doesn't feel like a burden to her kids. Attached is a photo of the two latest pieces of junk mail I received within days of each other. If you plan to visit this place don't give them your address.

Three days after my mother's passing, while her family still had full legal possession of her apartment, someone entered using a master key without our permission. My mother's belongings had been moved and sorted through. A set of keys with an employee's nametag was left behind in the apartment, which I photographed. We also noticed that specific jewelry items were missing. When I brought this evidence to Brightview leadership, their response was dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of internally investigating the unauthorized entry or the left-behind keys, they questioned my account because I did not have "before" photos of the apartment and the jewelry. This heartless handling of a secure space during our time of grief was deeply traumatic for my family. Based on my experience, management did not take this security breach seriously, and I advise families to be extremely cautious regarding the security of their loved ones' units.

A HUGE pro is Tribute's relationship with Encompass Health, which was invaluable in jump-starting my dad's hip rehab. As for the cons, there's really only one, and that is that as a relatively new facility, Tribute at One Loudoun seems to still be working out some kinks in terms of processes and procedures. At times, they seem understaffed and disorganized, particularly the health services/nursing staff. This is, of course, not a nursing home, but other facilities we visited -- including the other assisted living place my dad stayed briefly prior to coming to Tribute -- have much bigger health care staffs. Don't let the posh lobby mislead you. Tribute is not as expensive as it looks. Price-wise, it's competitive with other area assisted living facilities. Overall, I would very much recommend Tribute at One Loudoun.

My mother has been at Tribute for about 7 years and the first two years were great and even their…read morehandling of Covid, although expectedly rocky, overall they did a good job, but the past three years everything seemed to change all in a downhill direction. They rarely return calls, particularly the nurses who almost never return calls. They actually moved my mother to another wing and did not ask permission which is required since as I've had Power of Attorney since my mother moved into Tribute and they were provided a letter of incapacitation prior to move in as well, although apparently none of the staff I spoke with were made aware. A staff person helped my mother get a new credit card sent to Tribute and the bill as well TWICE and Twice the credit card and statements could not be found and twice I had to cancel those credit cards and as a result my mother could not keep a credit card at Tribute. I'm the one that who pays my mother's bill using that credit card, but because of this staff member who manipulated my mother, the credit card was tied up for months. This all resulted in hours upon hours of time talking to the credit card company and trying to reach somebody at Tribute. The result was that this staff person was asked not to do this anymore. (?????) Given that many of the people residing at Tribute have memory problems, any changes need to be told to the residents multiple times and if it's a financial matter, than the people paying paying the bills also need to be told. The residents were told in a group setting ONCE, that if they are not on time to meals, their food would be sent to their rooms and they would be charged $10.00. My mother had no idea about this and thought meals were now being served in their rooms. They could have made a call to those who are late and say, hey, if you aren't at breakfast in 5 minutes you'll be charged a fee??? I thought this was ASSITED living. They also used to have a more relaxed system that allowed residents to get their meals anytime without a 90 minute period. Initially they were arranging for cars to take residents to back home from the hospital, but now I get frantic calls saying that my mother needs to go home and the won't allow them to take an Uber, so either you pick them up now or pay $150 for a ride home. So this "Assistance" was removed and suddenly we received an onslaught of forms to get flu, Covid and Pneumonia vaccines. The information required is mostly medical details that the doctor who attends patients at Tribute should know and we would not. At $9,000 a month, one would expect a lot more ASSISTED Living.

I really don't think they can come up with a better environment for seniors and disabled people, than they present at Brookdale Sterling! It looked nice and pleasant at first with rocking chairs and friendly people. We thought it would be a good fit. She was excited at first with the restaurant atmosphere in the dining room and the dinner selections were good. Plenty of food and variety but later the quality went down hill. Many times they ran out of food or were served odd combinations. One time we observed a restaurant catering dinner because they ran out of food. On several occasions she fell in her room and there was blood on the carpet that was never cleaned. The staff had to be told to clean her filthy, stinky toilet. Many days when she returned from dinner she would find an employee in her room using her chair and her phone. Residents all had locking drawers for personal items and cash. Several times cash was stolen from her drawer. The family was charged extra money for weighing, showering, and transport to the dining area among other things. Towards the end there was very little contact with her from the staff her except for medication. When complaints were made to staff from the family regarding her being hungry or hurt, they would place the blame on the patient. Family members personally cleaned 2 bags of trash from her room. She was neglected to the point that she had her final fall and ended up dying shortly thereafter in the hospital. This wonderful deserved so much better.
