Many of the places we visited were quite large and somewhat confusing, with separate areas for assisted and independent living, which made my parents feel isolated and "less than." Then we discovered Brightview Great Falls. It was just the right size--large enough to offer engaging activities and social opportunities, yet small enough to feel intimate and cozy. Six months into their stay, we couldn't be more pleased with our choice. The care they receive is my top priority, and I am confident that any medical issues are promptly addressed. Secondly, the facility's cleanliness is impeccable, which is crucial to me; even the bathrooms, which can quickly become messy, are consistently spotless. My third major concern was the staff, and they have exceeded my expectations. They are communicative, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to their roles. I've even formed genuine friendships with several staff members who are truly caring individuals. Is everything perfect? No, no place is. But any issues that arise are taken seriously and handled swiftly. Knowing what I know now, I would choose Brightview Great Falls all over again. They took her credit card number which she thought was like a "hold" on a hotel room that could be cancelled. She thought she would have time to think about the decision. She tried to contact the person she spoke with there a couple of days later and was told that person was on vacation until the following week. She waited until the following week and got the run around and was never able to talk to that person again because she was always "busy." A call to the bank a couple of weeks later and we discovered that they had in fact charged her credit card $3,500 deposit the day she had visited Brightview. Several attempts to request that the charge be reversed have been denied by them. These people are very good at selling to the elderly and taking advantage of people who are hard of hearing and under stress. They make the desperate senior citizen feel like they are trying to help them, when, in fact, it is all an act to get their money. I hope this post keeps someone else from having the same experience.

They were early in taking restrictive measure--even before CMS required them. They have been transparent and communicated with families frequently. It was inevitable, given their location in Northern Virginia, that there would be COVID cases--especially since many staff work at least 2 jobs including at other facilities. Tall Oaks gave direct care staff a raise and asked them to limit their work to this single facility. Tall Oaks seems to have managed the COVID cases well, working closely with the Fairfax County Health Dept. Yes--there have been some deaths (inevitable in this population), but cases have been limited to fewer than 10% of their population. My 99-year-old parents have been safe, with no cases among residents or staff reported on their floor. My parents have lived at Tall Oaks for over 7 years. There have been many staff changes and although I've never been concerned for their safety, management and care has been variable, with current staff returning quality to the level it was when they moved in. Yes--I've had some complaints and frustrations over the years, mostly related to staff not taking responsibility for issues or not following through on commitments, but these kinds of issues have mostly disappeared in recent years as staff has changed. If I had to find a residence for my parents again, I would definitely choose Tall Oaks Assisted Living.

It's terrible here. Check if there is plenty of parking. Almost none here. Ask other resident's family how accurate the medication distributors are and how they keep up with changes in dr.'s orders. Ask if they do background checks on their staff. Be sure to ask your loved one about the care they are getting. Be specific. Our loved one told us the aide just left (them) in the shower to do everything for themselves, which they can't! - and we are paying for more attentive care! so be sure to ask details from your loved one. I understand all senior living places have their issues and that's so sad for family who want and pay for better care. But if you have notified the staff of your concerns in a courteous and professional manner, as we have, you should see at least SOME change instead of angry stares for speaking up and still no change at all, as we have.
