I've had better steaks at waffle house. No flavor, no seasoning! Don't know how they are cooking their steaks but it is SO bland! Salad bar is like Golden Coral only worse and the only vegetable they offer is broccoli. The cocktails were like Applebee's but not as good! If you're going to call your restaurant a steakhouse then please provide an experience for the prices you are charging. read more

Not bad for a college town. Came in on a Friday at 5:30 with a party of one. Was told the wait would be 30 minutes. Took under 10. Started with an Old Fashioned. The taste was fine, but rather than an orange peel, there was an orange slice. Rather than a a deep purple cherry, there was a bright red maraschino. Salad bar is a blast from the past. Can't remember the last time I saw one at a restaurant. Good mix of fixings in it, no complaints. They also bring a fresh backed mini loaf of bread which is decadent. They steak was perfectly cooked. Got the 8oz ribeye with Cajun seasoning done medium. Spot on, and fairly tasty, though I had to salt it a bit towards the end. The mushrooms were good, the broccoli was mushy. The ambiance gives me mixed emotions. The lighting was as bright as a Denny's. Totally uncharacteristic of a steak house. Though, there were a lot of children dining and everyone was dressed casually. Yet from the outside, the place looks classic steakhouse and elegant. They also have Illini sports paraphernalia hanging in the walls which was pretty cool. Service was fast and friendly. I was in and out in an hour, including my 10 minute wait. Plenty of hired help waiting and bussing tables. Line out the door. I read some recent reviews of people bashing this place because of food quality and service. That was not my experience, and I look forward to coming back again. Just no broccoli! read more

We have been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid. The staff here is always so friendly. Very attentive and making sure you have what you need. The salad bar seriously one of my favorite. I've ate at steakhouses across the nation and this was hands down the worst of all of them. If you want a dated version of something that died in the 70's, this is your place. Steaks come out on hot, cast iron skillets, so your steak is literally cooking still as you eat it. The salad bar reminded me of something from Wendy's back in the 80's that stopped because it's a cesspool of bacteria. Even reaching down into this broken cooler(I believe) to grab a hot plate, not cold, that definitely needs addressed. Find it hard to believe the health department allows the mishaps that salad bar is rocking, but I'm sure foodborne illnesses is a common theme for it. Hard to justify $170 meal for two on something as mediocre as this restaurant is slinging. I've had better steaks and cheaper at Longhorns and that's a corporate chain. Only redeeming quality of this place was the service, which I'm sure they have worked here since it has opened, cuz they got it down pat. I haven't been there in years and I don't intend to go back. That place is stuck in time and suffers from a case of self-importance. Their menu is so limited it's restrictive. They brag about their salad bar and let me tell you, after looking at it, there was very little I cared to eat from it. It gave a little bit of an "ick" vibe. They offer senior meals which are great for me because too much is just overwhelming for me. Had the 2023 RW special with my friend. The special was a 16oz ribeye shared by two, with one side of choice, a side bread for sharing, and unlimited salad bar. The unlimited salad bar was best for me. The rest was kind of disappointing. For the bread, I ordered a wheat bread, but I think it was made of white flour. Not sure whether they mistook it or their wheat bread was just not authentic at all. For the steak, it was too stiff for me (at least stiffer than what I thought a medium steak would be). The service was also kind of slow. The dining atmosphere was good though, people were making small chats and the restaurant was had great lighting. read more

Food has gone down hill, not worth the money. They've kept nostalgia style going but other than that it's not the place anymore for ribeye. Service and their team is hit or miss (usually the latter) they need a "GM" and team who knows people, knows the business better and build NEW relationships. Sad to see this place struggling. So much good history to bring alive and go forward! Ambiance is ok, still rough waiting area and their restrooms should have a remodel. A Chicago Kenny shoutout to The Rib Eye for a great meal. Passing through town, I asked a local at a filling station for a dining recommendation. The look on his face as he described the Rib Eye convinced me I would love the place. Our waitress Katie was friendly, funny, and efficient. If I go to a place called Rib Eye, three guesses what I am having. My steak was cooked just right, and my baked tator was perfect. You could make a meal from the high-quality salad bar, but take my advice and have a steak. The prices on the menu were more than fair. To sum it up...meh. The white bread deflated like a balloon when cut. The white bread was like a fluffy clowd. The decor feels like a sports bar, the building like a stake house, the outside like a strip club. PICK ONE! The service was pretty good, the waiter was nice and quick. Service was great, friendly and attentive, but the food was just mid. We decided to just do the salad bar. We have been here before in years past, and always enjoyed the salad bar. Tonight though, the quality of the salad bar items was off. The beets were extra soft, the lettuce a little slimy, the tomatoes soft and the premade salads (pasta, pea and bean) were flavorless. We had Christy as our server who seems preoccupied and inattentive. Waited extended period of time for refills, never checked in on us, forgot our sides of sour cream and then blamed us, claiming that we never asked. She had the audacity to confront us about how she did poorly, which I respect, but she did not care at all when we told her what she did wrong. She never apologized once. We were a party of 5 and subject to the 20% gratuity and management was kind and addressed the situation accordingly. I have been there before. The steak was great! Not this time. Went there May, 16, 2024. The steak was tough, chewy, full of stringy fat. I think I saw whip marks where the jockey was hitting the steak. It was not a ribeye. It was terrible. It was not like I remember it. They must of changed meat providers. $87 for a 10 ounce fake ribeye, 2 ice teas, 2 crab cakes, and a baked potato. The salad bar is great. The service was great. That specific combination of protein carbs and veggies hit the spot for me that night. I just pulled in for a weekend-long American Nuclear Society conference and needed all the strength I could muster. I wish I could recall my waiter's name. He was so helpful, and considerate. The steak was simply delicious. He kept the (tea) drinks coming, and I remember leaving a $20 tip. If you're in the Champiagn IL area, I would recommend checking The Ribeye out. This is quite the find. With so many (good) chains moving into Champaign, the unique tends to get pushed out. The Ribeye is one of those unique institutions. The menu is pretty simple. Steak of different sizes with your choice of a potato and an unlimited salad bar. You can add on wine grilled onions and the like. I'd recommend adding the onions because I thought the steak was ok. It wasn't anything special, but it is solid enough. I will give compliments to the chef since the steak was cooked perfectly. I got steak fries which were super good. Everybody loves the salad bar, but it was another thing I wished was a little better. I found it "meh", but thought the dressings were good. The service was also fantastic and you can't beat the price which is why it got four stars from me. This place is like your favorite chair. No frills and comfortable. We have been going to the Ribeye for years. This is the first time I was disappointed in the steak that I was served. It did not have much flavor and was extremely tough and chewy. It also did not look like a ribeye even though that is what I ordered. I am a farm girl and I recognize a ribeye and the steak served me was not a ribeye.
