I got there early and was lucky enough to find parking right out front! This building was awesome, you would never know what's inside by looking at it. When you first walk in , there's a dining and bar area. Then up on the second floor is the event space, The room I set up in was the Library. I put the balloon garland up against one of the wall bookcases and the client loved it. I have got to make time to come back as a patron and experience the place.

Don't be confused by the name, The Valentine. This 19th-century home was purchased in 1898 by Mann Valentine Jr. who added a museum to the property and renamed it The Valentine. My visit was part of a dual tour with the John Marshall House (treason trial of A. Burr). The tour started promptly at the appointed time, and we began our tour of the home. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Wickham house, the family and the history of that time. Her tour was much more than a simple recitation. She brought the home to life through her descriptions, easily fielded questions and encouraged discussions. We all gained a clear picture of life at that time as well as the role that John Wickham played in history. The house is kept in beautiful condition with many examples of how the family lived, from clothing to imagined food out on the table. I was truly impressed by the beauty of the home. After the tour we were able to meander through the museum that is a part of the property. It is an interesting stroll through Richmond's history from the early 1800's to the present. I would definitely suggest a visit here if you are a history fanatic. Check out your options for parking before you get here (I parked in one of the local garages and spent about $15).

I knew this was an old, updated building, but I was very disappointed with this hotel…read more There was no hot water in the bathroom sink, so I had to shave in the shower (with no mirror); and the shower water was barely warm enough for the shower. The toilet ran after flushing unless I went back and gave the handle a little jiggle. There were no electrical outlets in the bathroom -- none! I had to plug in my electric toothbrush on one of the nightstands. There was a double electrical outlet at the desk, but the refrigerator plug covered part of the second outlet, so I had to unplug the refrigerator to plug in my laptop. (Fortunately, I had no need for the fridge.) The room was chilly when I got there, but I couldn't figure out how to set the HVAC for heat. The only plus was that the bed was very comfortable. But that was not enough to make up for all the other shortcomings. I do not recommend this hotel. It is very expensive and not anywhere near worth it.

At the Overlook at ChildSavers, you get stunning views of the city from the perfect vantage point. The site is perfectly flat and has gorgeous views for miles, well, most of the way. It's bright and sunny and beautiful, but then there is that eye sore of an ugly rusted tank obstructs view on the left :0. I found that a little distracting from the otherwise beautiful view. Overall, however, great spot with lots of space for a nice event, and a goooorgeous view of the sunset and the painted city sky. What a nice place for a special event.

Near the entrance they usually serve some drink or food with tables up front then near the back they'll have a very intimate performance space. There is plenty of free street parking nearby. This is located in Scott's Addition. It can also be used as an affordable wedding venue. I love the bathrooms here. They are fully stocked with thoughtful things like hair ties and floss. They have a women and men restroom. I last went for a WRIR fundraiser that was incredible. They opened one of the garage doors for a food truck to serve food from. I love the way the space is divided so you can have room for dancing/music as well as sitting down. I'd recommend hosting an event here.
