First time here and I had high hopes from previewing the menu. The place is very cute with indoor and outdoor seating! And all the staff was friendly. I attended a "closed event" in the back bar so we had a fixed menu. It was a Thursday evening before the dinner rush so there weren't many people in the building. Service was very very slow. We got there at 5 and didn't get served an appetizer until 6:15. There wasn't bread offered either. Not sure if this was purposeful as a cocktail hour? But even the cocktails came out very very slowly. I enjoyed the salad and crab cakes as I shared with a friend. But my meat pasta needed way more sauce and flavor. It was dry and pretty tasteless. I also found a long piece of plastic from a bag in it :( I didn't want to bring a lot of attention to that as I was with many people I didn't know but that was really unfortunate. Lastly the dessert came after 7 and at that point I wanted to leave but stayed to try it. It was just okay. Could have used a chocolate drizzle or made the waffle warm with a sugar coating. It was just a bit boring. I also need to add that my friend ordered a sangria and it was $16!!!! And the bartender said she made it on the fly as they didn't have any. How on earth could you justify that price?? Maybe this was just an off night! But I don't feel compelled I go back after that experience.

Food price / quality (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is "Colonial Roadside Tavern". I've been coming to this location for 45 years, and through a few owners. They have a pub / Continental cuisine menu including appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and some higher end entrees, There are eight draught beers offered and many other cans and bottles. Thursdays is free beer with any sandwich, and 12 wings for the price of six which is $10, Wednesday is wine night any bottle of wine half price. Live acoustical entertainment most Friday nights and sometime Saturday nights. They offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4:00 p.m. which includes a Bloody Mary bar where you make your own bottomless Bloody Marys, and bottomless Mimosas. Our server Nick was very attentive and knowledgeable, and understood what is important in the service industry. They also have two very nice outdoor seating areas, two full bars, a large dining room and a large bar area. They specialize in catering events such as weddings, graduation parties, and other large events. The prices are very reasonable, and the service has always been good here.

Freezing cold, even with the fireplace going. Won't go back in the winter for that reason.

Excellent food and really enjoyed the outdoor seating. The drinks were alright, too. Went on a Saturday afternoon.

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

In terms of the atmosphere, it was bone chilling inside. All of us had to put on extra layering and ordered hot drinks to keep our hands warm. Service: Woefully understaffed. Multiple errors and waiting for simple requests - a coffee refill? The one wait staffer (handling the entire restaurant was literally sprinting to handle customer requests). I could see why the room was not cold to the servers... It was not their fault. They did their level best to accommodate guests. Food: Rack of lamb was excellent which we shared as a starter. Bacon sides were very generous for the price and very tasty. Potatoes were excellent. The waffles could have been better. Nice portion but half were overcooked and the other half smothered with blueberries which I ordered on the side. Coffee was average to below average. Shouldn't be since they apparently roast their own beans. The understaffed help could have been overlooked. The extra required layers and frozen feet were hard to ignore. Overall, they need to be sure they're fully staffed, food is served timely, hot and "done just right," we will not be returning anytime soon. And, please turn up the heat!

From my understanding, it is a Christmas "pop-up" called Miracle. Since we just showed up without reservations, we sat at the bar, which was totally fine with us. The bartenders were very nice and offered up some recommendations. It turned out, my friend had gone to a Miracle pop-up at another bar weeks before, but hadn't realized it. The space is cozy and was very nicely decorated. I ordered an espresso martini off of their regular menu and my friend ordered the Candy Cane Lane. We didn't order food since we had dinner plans after. Our bill was $37.00, plus the $6 we left for a tip. For two cocktails that were good, but not fantastic, that is a little steep in my opinion. If we each had a second cocktail, it would have been close to $100. It's a bar in Newtown, not the casino. Would I go back? I would, just not during the holidays, and maybe a special occasion.

The menu is some what tied into the Puglia region, which is the heel of the boot. I could tell the italian dialect from the owner when he was speaking to one of the staff, it immediately gave me a good feeling that this restaurant would be really good. The appetizers we had were all really good, we had the fried calamari, the grilled Octopusss, the fried zucchini flowers and thd hummus special. Sorry no pics of these. We had a couple of the Orrechiette Barese, Chicken parmigiana, a pasta special of fettuccine with shrimp in a cream and pesto sauce, another pasta with cavatelli, shrimp and cream and pesto sauce, really couldn't see the pesto, probably could have used a little more or maybe a little finishing with the pesto on top. Service was good and the owner came around to introduce himself and we got a complimentary round of their homemade creama di limencello to finish off the experience. There were a lot of staff for hardly any people but I'm assuming they were getting ready for a rush to come later. The ambiance is nice, it's decorated well and gives a bit of a speakeasy vibe. Our drinks were good, they made me one special as I wasn't a fan of some of the ingredients in the mocktail options! My drink was well made and was really good! Service was decent but our waiter was hovering a lot. The food was nothing special. We liked the sliders but they were a little bland. They were still juicy and not overcooked and the sauce on them wasn't bad. Overall not much flavor. The chips for the nachos were overcooked and fried in what tasted like old oil as there was a burnt aftertaste. The chicken was just dry shredded chicken with virtually no seasoning. I understand why the Gruyère was used as the cheese, as that's what used in French onion soup, but Gruyère is not a good melting cheese. It was congealed/it broke and was in globs and we needed a fork and knife to cut through it. The only onions on the dish were crispy fried onions and scallions which didn't add the French onion flavor you'd expect. All in all after our experience we had this is not a place we'd return to.
