Literally the day before we got a message saying that the restaurant only had two seating options available as there were other tables or we could cancel; given the late notice we chose the wine rooms. While private, it was also secluded so if we needed anything we would have to go and get the staff since there were infrequent checkups. To add insult to injury, the food was not that great. First time getting the Redfish with the sauce on the side. The redfish was cooked perfectly and the seasonings were excellent. The sauce was very good but I used very little because the fish itself stood out. Perfectly cooked green beans. Definitely will get this again. Yum yum. The gumbo was a thin dark brown roux with very little meat. There was a seasoning in it that I just didn't like. I cannot remember or think what it is but it over powered the gumbo. Hard pass. The hamburger steak had some of that seasoning from the gumbo but definitely not as much. The mashed potatoes were definitely made fresh and creamy. This place has old school Elegance. The busser Dylan helped us so much with all steps. Brett our server knocked it out of the park too. He took very good care of us. Absolutely nothing disappointed. They've really done some cute stuff with the patio outside. They've opened for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays which is such a treat! Wednesdays and Thursdays are steak nights and our 18 Oz ribeye was $39 with mashed potatoes and a house salad. Totally worth it. Charming old restaurant with a germanic flavor. Food cook to perfection and attentive service. It has been awhile since I visited this restaurant and I am very glad I went back to eat there recently. Liked so much, that I went back again today. At lunch time, the restaurant has a lunch menu and at dinner time it has an expanded menu. However, if you make a selection out of the regular menu it is okay. On my first visit I had the most delicious beef brisket served with cabbage, potatoes and carrots. My husband and I dined at The Red Maple this evening. They were offering a 16 oz steak for $35.00. My husband opted for this selection. I must say the steak was exquisite and tender. We were both pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, it surpassed the quality of Ruth's Chris and Fleming's steaks. We will certainly return. We had reservations to celebrate a friend's retirement. We had called ahead to make arrangements to have a bottle of champagne at our table when we arrived. We had also dropped off a small celebration cake. We arrived at our table and the experience began with our server dropping menus off. She came back a couple minutes later wanting to take our orders which we were no where close to being able to provide especially when there were questions about the menus that needed answers. It was at that point however we asked about the champagne that was supposed to be ready for us. It took a good 10-15 minutes to get that brought to the table. The server had no clue on how to uncork a bottle or pour champagne. From that point on we had to serve ourselves wine. We had also ordered a bottle of Rose wine as well to have with our meals. The wine arrived at our table warm. The server stuck it into the champagne bucket with the champagne but there is no way you can adequately chill a bottle of wine well with it sitting on top of a little ice. I looked over and realized that the wine selections that had been offered to us were sitting out on a counter. We were never offered a wine list. The server did come back by to open the warm Rose and did pour our first glass after our meal had already been served. We had to pour our own from that point on. The food was the best part of the meal. Steaks were cooked perfectly and everyone loved their entree. However, the entire dining experience felt very rushed. We were constantly having dishes cleared even before we were finished with them. Then along came the cake experience. I have brought many cakes to fine dining restaurants to celebrate. Never have I had the cake brought out and put on the table with a large knife for us to cut and serve it ourselves. All of my other experiences at this level of an establishment the cake would be brought out and presented to the celebratory and then taken bake to the kitchen to be cut and served. The table we were at was so small there was barely any room to put the cake much less to cut it and serve it properly. It ended up being a mess with cake falling apart and dropping trying to serve it. It really put a pall over what should have been a wonderful celebration. We were never offered coffee with our dessert and felt like were were being rushed out so did not want to ask. I live in Old Gretna and was so excited to go for my first time and to take out of town guests there. I had chosen to stay in Gretna rather than going into the city for our fine dining experience and really wish it had been better. The table that we were seated was incredibly small, right next to the bar (which was very loud) and right near the entrance door. Once we we seated, we waited and we waited and we waited for a server to even acknowledge us. Finally, our server came over and told us that she'd be right with us. She then proceeded to go to the other end of the bar where she had been since we had sat down, she was having a great time with a couple of the customers at the bar. A charming little restaurant with romantic ambiance located in the heart of Old Gretna. We celebrated my brother's birthday here in September and it was lovely. We had a large party, which included my little people, so we made reservations in advance. They were ready for us as soon as we arrived, and we were promptly seated, provided drinks and a menu. The menu was trimmed down a bit due to supply chain issues/COVID, but overall the food was excellent. It's the perfect place to celebrate an event with family and friends, or spend an intimate date night with your better half. The waitstaff is attentive and the food is delicious. The prices are fair and the portions are generous. Be prepared to take photos in their beautiful little courtyard that makes you feel like you're in New Orleans. I give this place 4 stars mostly because we came here for a rehearsal dinner and the bartenders were nice but the food didn't wow me like I was expecting. It was real cute outside of the restaurant when you're walking up and they have all the lights in the outdoor area and the room we had dinner in was cozy intimate. We both had the steaks and there was something about it that seemed off and we couldn't figure out what it was. We asked for medium rare and thankfully they did cook them medium rare but we couldn't finish them because it didn't taste right and the couple across from us agreed with that as well. I brought my 88 year old stepfather to lunch here last week to celebrate his birthday since this is one of his favorite restaurants and has been going there for years. When making the reservation, I wrote that we were celebrating a birthday and I would appreciate them doing something to acknowledge it. I would have been glad to pay for a dessert or whatever. Went here as a group of 4 after a very last minute decision to change dinner venues. They very cheerily answered the phone and said there was no wait, to come on over. My friend had the wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing and devoured it. I had the chicken parmesan with linguini and was thrilled with it. It had a thick slice of melty mozzarella over the top, the breading was light and crispy and not rock-hard on the edges like so many are when it's fried, then baked. The entrance has a very cute courtyard/patio with a bridge over a waterfall and koi pond - I was not expecting this just inside some brick walls but it really had a cute, old-world feel to it. Started with a Wedge Salad, way too much lettuce for the small amount of Blue Cheese they put over it, although the dressing that I did receive was good. I ordered the small ribeye, they are the thin ribeyes, about the thickness of a minute steak which was also disappointed, although the steak was seasoned well although terribly gristly. The "large filet" is tiny at best and it came with a huge sweet potato that wasn't cooked. The middle was soft but I couldn't get my fork through the outside of it. This is a review of the private party space. I am a novice when it comes to setting up private events. Despite my lack of experience, I was tasked with setting up a function for work. Red Maple made the whole process extremely easy. I emailed the manager and she returned my email promptly with a price and option sheet. All it took was a phone call and we were set. The Bar Our bartender Dominique was excellent. Besides being a great at making drinks, she was engaging and quite patient with our motley group. She went out of her way to get Turbodog specifically for me. If you book an event, make sure and ask that she is your bartender. The food We picked three different entrees when setting up the party. I chose the fillet, but others got either smoked chicken or grilled redfish. My fillet was cooked properly, and as good as any that I have had at a private event. Besides the entrees we had corn and crab bisque, a salad, and bread budding. The corn and crab bisque was the star of the night. It was among the best versions of that dish that I have had in the city. The room The private room is very nice. While it is next to the main dining room, you definitely feel secluded from other diners. We didn't get too rowdy, but I would imagine we could have and not bothered the other guests. The cost I wont list prices since I am sure they are subject to change, but Red maple was by far the most reasonable and easy place to deal with. I've never gotten more than an appetizer here, but I really like the place. It has an "old school" Westbank feel and could probably stand to be updated, but the staff is nice and it's a nice place to hang out if you just want an appetizer or a drink. The front has more of a "loungey" feel with a jukebox, bar area, and video poker, but the back is huge and gorgeous. I can definitely see having a party here or going here on a night out with friends. The staff was really nice and attentive and made sure that we were taken care of and had everything that we needed. Really a 3.5 rating. I hear the radio commercial for this place all the time and based on that, I would never choose to go here. I can't stand the actor's voice and demeanor in it. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. He does the same annoying thing in radio ads for Lakeview Harbor also. I have to turn the station when either ad comes on. One would think it a conflict of interest for the same guy to promote hamburgers for 2 different places using the same voice and routine, but I digress... I was brought here for lunch with 3 other people. It was my first time there. The atmosphere is interesting. You walk a thru a pretty garden into what seems like a ratskellar. It felt like we were transported to a German tavern in the basement. It was very dark and beer steins lined the perimeter of the room. I expected the staff to be dressed in dirndls and lederhosen. I was informed the portions were very large. They have a list of lunch options for $10. They include either soup, Gumbo or salad as the side. All the choices sounded good, but were all very "heavy" choices for lunch. I ended up getting the Maple Burger with Gumbo. The burger was large and came with fries. I ate half and took the rest home. The Gumbo was pretty good. My lunch companions also chose from the $10 lunch specials. They got the fried Catfish Pecan, Pork Ribeye and Boiled Beef Brisket. All were enjoyed with no complaints. Two of them chose salads for their side. The salads looked very good. You definitely get a lot of food for $10.00! In addition to that, they bring you fresh-made rolls with butter. I didn't try them since I was getting the burger, but everyone said they were great. It's a decent place with good food. The radio ads need to be updated with new voices though.
