The food was simply divine, honestly the fish n' chips are so delicious! I'd have them all day if I could. The Lobster roll is really great too. Add a squeeze of lemon and it transform into an amazing dish. The service was kind the and the waitress was nice the hostess was friendly and seemed to be in a great mood. It was a very nice internal design was beautiful. read more

Service was great & it was a joy to eat out on the deck. 3 of us had lobster rolls & we were really looking forward to them. Unfortunately the roll was too large for the contents and wasn't the freshest. Saving grace was the lobster was very good. Also a Very nice selection of local non-alcoholic beer read more

Service was absolutely amazing and welcoming atmosphere. Our server, Nieva, made this experience perfect. Her positive energy, great food and menu suggestions, and overall knowledge with recommendations of events/places to see around town made our visit perfect. I would definitely return just to see her, share a few laughs, and feel welcomed. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a rainy afternoon. We had the mussels which came out nice and hot and in a lovely broth. The fish and chips was huge and perfectly crispy! The staff were super friendly and accommodating! read more

Stopped into this pub just before sunset on Saturday. Only had to wait about 20 mins. Had the Greek burger with the patty switched out for a veggie patty, it was delicious! I also spent entirely too long staring at the various license plates on the wall, honestly it's embarrassing . read more

Happened into the Herring after our tall ship cruise to see whales. It was 8 minutes before the kitchen closed but we were welcomed in with open arms and a smile! I had the fish sandwich and hubby got the fish and chips. Ahhhmazing!! The fish was cooked beautifully. Crunchy outside and juicy tender fish on the inside. I opted for the sweet potato fries and those also did not disappoint. Cute, clean, great music and excellent service!! read more

The fish and chips were amazing and a HUGE portion. Crispy batter (made to order) and tender, flaky fish. Slaw was great and fries were homemade and crispy . Our server Ian was friendly, helpful and attentive but not intrusive. We sat outside on the patio with a view of the water. If you're looking for great fish and chips- highly recommend! read more

It took awhile to get a table - short staffer they said. It's a basic frier spot and the fish n chips tasted fine and very generous portions. It's a bit smoky outside and noisy but this isn't fine dining. Would return when I feel the need for fried food. read more

we ordered fish cakes with Caesar salad - ceasar salad was swimming in dressing to the point that made it inedible, fish cakes were very tasteless and unappealing. Also ordered fish and chips- fries were okay but the fish was way overcooked- we recognized they were busy at lunch but after an exceedingly long wait time the reward was certainly not worth it. Apologies but they could have done a lot better - read more

We could be wrong in how Canada makes their fish cakes but they were very soft. The lobster poutine is tasty and so is the scallops. The lobster roll needed something. The service is great as well as the outside seating. read more

We chose this restaurant after seeing the pictures of the huge Lobster Rolls that others had posted. There are 2 sizes, 1/4 lb and 1/2 lb. The 1/2 lb was $38.50, so double the price of other restaurants that serve more modest sized portions. But well worth it if you are a Lobster Roll lover like myself! The patio of this restaurant doesn't look over the water like many others do, but this wasn't a big deal for us as we were just looking for a quick bite. The restaurant was packed and there was a line up, but the waitresses weren't able to estimate the wait time. Not a big deal for us as we are on vacation and not in a big rush. One of the waitresses later told us a table was getting their bill and we could have their table. When we followed up with them later she said someone had rushed out and grabbed the table before she could give it to us. So the next time a table was almost ready she told us we should grab it before someone else did. Our orders were taken pretty quickly, and our drinks were brought out. But the food took a long time, at least 45 mins to come out. Most of the tables around us didn't have their food yet either, so we must have all sat down around the same time. It is a small kitchen and they are not used to large crowds so be prepared to be patient when you come. There were 4 of us in our party. I had the large lobster roll. It was a beautiful roll and the taste was okay, but not great. You could tell it was frozen lobster meat, which was a bit disappointing since we were on the East Coast. The Arcadian salad was fresh and tasty. Hubby had the poutine which he said was good, but nothing special. The kids had a grilled cheese sandwich and hot dog. The hot dog was huge and our 5 year old enjoyed it. The grilled cheese sandwich looked good and our daughter finished it as well. Overall, it's an okay restaurant, but if you are looking for lobster rolls, I'd go somewhere else. read more

Great pub style food and excellent service. Local craft beer on tap and a good menu selection

It's like watching a welled oiled machine at work. Our server was taking care of the bar area, serving orders etc...., such a cute place. Loved the vibe. Loved the food. He was on top of his game. Not missing a beat and taking care of his customers. I ordered the fish & chips. Huge portion. Very good. I also tried a Cesear. Their version of a Bloody Mary. I ordered it spicy and boy did that hit the spot! read more

I have been here once and that is enough to know that the food is bad! The fries are the worst and it practically comes on every meal. I would go to Tim Hortons. It doesn't deserve the one star rating. read more

Big menu but nothing special. Pretty much all the stuff is frozen from a good service company. Fries are very good, fresh cut in house, which is the saving grace that had me give 3 star and not 2. Menu hasn't changed in years apparently. A positive is that the staff are all great, friendly, and service overall is good. Kudos to the staff. Not their fault the menu and food is what it is. read more

Been here twice and that is enough. First time, very greasy food and didnt have the first 2 things we chose on the menu Second time, we were seated, given menu's and waited 15 min with no one coming over, we left. TBH, there are 3 places within a stones throw from the RH, I would go elsewhere. read more

Big portions and a very clean pub! our waitress, Krystal, handled our group of 11 great! would recommend if you're in the area!

Not good. Plain and simple. My husband and I were talked into ordering the 1/2 pound lobster roll by a local at the bar. We would have gotten the 1/4 pound but were told it was soooo worth the extra $15 bucks per roll. I knew we were screwed when the bar tender said to the local "you talked them into an "upcharge" too? Then laughed...right in front of us. Really? First of all...gross cold fries and frozen onion rings. Second, frozen, watery (I suppose from being thawed to fast or frozen to long) lobster on a ridiculously stale hot dog bun which was wet...yes wet on the bottom...soaked...from frozen lobster, I presume. Ugh...the buns were like the cheap brand you buy at any discount grocery store. We ordered two beers and two margaritas. Bill with tip was $140. Two rolls, two beers and two margaritas. $140. This restaurant was recommended to us by the shuttle driver at The Algonquin Hotel. It was horrible. Just wow. Shame on the owner. Such a bad first impression of our first night in St Andrews. PS I rarely, give a review this bad but when it's owed...here you go. read more

Plusses: Reliable, friendly service. Good beers on tap. WICKED good live music, as well as dance party nights. The only place in town where you can reliably encounter people under 30 between the hours of 10pm-2am. BEST FISH AND CHIPS in St Andrews - hands down. GREAT outdoor seating. Minuses: Not enough healthy options on menu. Music (even when a singer-songwriter) often too loud to understand what they are singing about. I'm a fan though... read more

We were in the area and ate here twice. It is definitely the place where locals hang out. We met some very nice people from the local area the first time we ate here. They were very willing to share about the area. The food was good and the beer specials by the pitcher a hit! The wait staff were efficient and friendly. The first night we were there was really busy and the waitress did well with a lot to cover. My husband had the fish sandwich and I had the mussels! Both were very good! The second time in we had the fish chowder/stew, also very good! Definitely a friendly, chill place to be. They have outside dining which we took advantage of. First time I've ever seen a restaurant offer blankets to keep you warm while you eat, of course it is Canada! read more

We decided to stop at The Red Herring after some whale watching and we had a wonderful experience! You sit yourself at the wide variety of tables inside and out on the patio. It isn't right on the water like some other establishments, but you can see the water and also enjoy the atmosphere the street and courtyard offer. The service was prompt and polite. The appetizers were delicious, and you could easily make a meal of those alone. We got fish & chips after seeing another review praising them, and they were some of the best fish & chips I've ever had. The fresh cut fries used were noticeably outstanding. I can't wait to have another chance to come back again! read more

A quick trip up to Saint John had us stopping for dinner and a couple beverages. The scallops were not fresh but frozen despite the server telling us "as locally caught as possible". The shrimp on the skewer was old and chewy. The lettuce limp. Let's just say... I hope in the "busy" season that this place puts on a better show. If you can avoid and there is some other restaurant open in town, go for that one. read more

Worst service ever...we came here last night riding through with a cousin and there was a waitress on that was not happy we sat in a closed off section. We gladly moved areas, yet she still did not give us any service. Tonight we rode in again...I'm kinda thinking we came in on Harley's and had disheveled hair, biker boots and riding glasses, she didn't like us....we walked in for a couple drinks and again, she did not serve us. She gladly cleared our table when we were finished but we were really tired of having to go get our own drinks after riding all day. We left and found a different watering hole! read more

Hit and miss. My son ordered the fish and chips. It looked great and he said it was probably one of the best fish and chips he ever had (fish and chips is the only seafood he'll eat. Teenagers, what can you do.). I had a bacon cheese burger. It was a bit on the dry side, my bun was a bit burnt but OK I guess. My wife ordered cream of broccoli soup with a turkey sandwich. Just awful. There was absolutely no "cream" to the soup, kind of looked like green dishwater. I'm not a chef but even I could make a better cream of broccoli soup than that it is NOT that difficult. Sandwich was also a lost cause, looked like a pressed turkey roll on a bun, So to summarize, DO NOT get the soup. read more

Slow service & overpriced food! Placed our order and waited...and waited...40 minutes! Husband ordered fish & chips & salad with chicken. You would think that when customers arrive just before the peak lunch rush you shouldnt have to go find the waitress & ask about our order. $12 for a salad with 5 slices of cucumber, 4 slices of tomato, 1/2 cup lettuce, & a chicken finger cut into tiny bits....SERIOUSLY! read more

Just came from pub had a great reception very nice waitress all in all a very positive experience

it smelled a little of stale beer when we walked in. the bathrooms were not very clean. it was raining so we sat inside. the view of the water is blocked by an old building and chain fence that are right outside the window. the waitress was very nice, helpful, and attentive. the prices were $13.99 for each platter we got (burger/fries/slaw and calamari/fries/slaw). the hand cut fries had good flavor, but were not crispy AT ALL, and i like my fries crispy! the burger itself (done medium well, they didn't ask how i wanted it) was under-seasoned and not juicy. i got the 'dirty burger', which has jalapenos, cheddar, onion, lettuce, tomato. the only real flavor came from the jalapenos. hubby got calamari, which he said lacked flavor, but i though tasted 'fishy'. also, not crispy at all, soggy, actually. the 'tartar' sauce was weird. the base tasted like a mix of sour cream and yogurt and something unidentifiable. hubby even said the beer was very 'bland'. the food comes piled high in a small basket....so after putting my burger together and taking a bite, i had to keep putting it down on a pile of french fries. wish i had a plate. read more
