Great restaurant inside the Algonquin hotel. Every server is from a different country. We had three people take care of us from Ukraine, Cameroon, and India. The Ceaser Salad was a bit plain for the price, but the entrees were great, although unnecessary pricey. The bartender is great, and the drink selection is quite unusual. read more

4 friends staying at the hotel and decided to eat there. We had the plater to share. We very good but for the price, put a bit more stuff that don't cost you much. Like fries. Was a bit small but very good. Then we decided to share the tomahawk steak. We were told that it would be 15$ more for the plate as meats went up in price. Funny. 15 is a bit much for a steak. The side were to small. But overall the meal was good. The meat is cook sous vide and I must say I prefer the old way to cook a steak. So if you go, good, if not, not a big lost. read more

I would dine here again just to have another serving of their cheesecake. Surrounded by chocolate, made with lemon curd, topped with fresh blueberries, this dish was made by pastry chefs at the top of their game. Each bite extraordinary. The rest of the meal was good mind you, a lamb burger on a ciabatta roll with really good lamb, my daughters Mac and cheese got rave reviews and empty dishes, and I enjoyed some local Greystone ale. Service with aplomb. However it is the cheesecake that I will never forget. Overall after dining for dinner and breakfast at the Algonquin and trying a few other local establishments, I would advise you to dine at the hotel at least once. read more

I'd skip this one if I had to do it over again. The food wasn't necessarily bad, but it certainly wasn't stellar considering their prices. Service wasn't terrible either but it was not acceptable for the price you pay here. We really expected five star service for these prices and were sorely disappointed. The raw oysters were warm when we received them (eek). Asked for Tabasco for our oysters and received it once we were done with them so that wasn't much help at that point. $30 for a bowl of rigatoni pasta that wasn't anything special with a few vegetables sprinkled on top. We also paid extra for shrimp to be added expecting jumbo or at least grilled shrimp but what we received was a few tiny boiled shrimp. Mixed drinks were decent but the white wine I ordered (at about $15 per glass if I recall correctly) was truly terrible. I'm no wine snob, but this tasted like grape juice. I'd go elsewhere if you are looking for a high end dining experience. read more

Stopped in for dinner with family late on Thursday night.  Hotel was busy and the location was nice so figured we would stop in, luckily not busy. The host/staff was not very attentive and sat us in corner with two round tables pushed together - not ideal with kids.  We sat for over 10 minutes before anybody came by and the flies were nuts, all over the place. There were normal bar options and some different cuisine choices; we ordered onion soup which was fine, an asian inspired noodle bowl that was salty and lacked beef, chicken sandwich and 'pepperoni' pizza that had some type of dried meat on it. Food came out hot, just took a LONG time, drinks sat empty for long time, etc. Waitress was nice and very friendly! read more

While I adore the Algonquin and all it's glory, the food and drinks frustrate me (pre and post COVID changes). While some items are simply fantastic (the chowder, pesto chicken pizza, chicken club), others are oddly paired, feel thrown together or are poorly made (the prosciutto and arugula pizza has far too much greasy cheese layered on, and you cannot enjoy the toppings or garlic olive oil base). Our server let us know that the 'steak' was new and improved -- now triple A and not previously frozen like before. Several of our drinks were well made, although during a busy Thursday evening there was a bartender who was new and asked me how to make two cocktails that were on the menu. So.... Ended up with overpriced incorrectly made cocktails. read more

This is an awesome restaurant on St. Andrews. Since all of the menu options are produced from scratch and from the items, most can be adjusted for the gluten-free sensitive guests. Our server was absolutely awesome and informative and willing to help us in all respects. The atmosphere was fancy and romantic. Overall this was a great experience and I would definitely recommend to family and friends! The Algonquin Hotel is also very nice and I would recommend this to anyone staying in St. Andrews. Stopped here for a late lunch before heading to MDI. We sat on the porch and had the chowder and a lobster grilled cheese. The lobster grilled cheese was good but we wish we had just gotten two chowders. Our waiter recommend both and said the chowder had won some awards. It was easy to understand why. read more

We stayed at the Algonquin for two nights and ate here both nights and also for breakfast. We had the butter poached seafood with the sweet pea risotto- it was 5/5, absolutely delicious and special. My husband had the lamb chops and he said they were perfect. We started with escargot and seafood chowder,both were delectable. The chowder was not thick and glue-like, it was thinner which I prefer. The prices are high, my main was $39. I was surprised then to find how boring and lacking the breakfast buffet was. There was an omelette station that had red pepper,mushrooms, onion,ham and cheddar cheese as toppings. Not great choices. There were small muffins and bins of unimaginative scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon. It was just okay, I think that for an upscale resort that it should be better than a motel. The toast was thin, inexpensive mass-produced bread. No jams or jellies on the tables. The hash browns were grated potatoes and quite yummy. I would order off the menu next time, and skip the buffet. The servers were very nice, the breakfast room is sunny and a very nice space to start your day. All in all, a wonderful experience. read more

This is an excellent restaurant and a very nice resort with stellar food. The seafood chowder is among the best I've had. The reason for only two stars is the abysmal beer selection and not great service. On the menu they have a great beer selection with several IPAs and a lot of other craft beer. The problem is that they don't actually have most of it but they do have all the lousy standard run of the mill beers. Also when you are seated it's nice to have all of the necessary flatware to eat supper without having to chase down the server. For such a good place they could do a lot better. read more

Decided to eat here after reading reviews on Yelp. What a great decision. Amazing meal. Just go! If you need more convincing here it goes. The seafood chowder was delicious and packed with lobster, fish, scallops, potato and a very light cream sauce delicate enough for the seafood flavores to come through in just the right proportion. The lobster and crab cakes were the best I have ever had and finally short rib braised and lovingly placed on gnocchi which were fluffy not dense. Heavenly. Best meal I have had in quite awhile. Located within the Algonquin Resort, which is five stars on it's own, there are actually two Braxton's. One is the pub and the other is fine dining. The pub food is excellent and, even though is seems mundane, the fish and chips are without a doubt the best I've ever had. Beer battered and using absolutely fresh ingredients with house made chips. It was so good I had it twice in the three days I was there. The fine dining restaurant, is as good as any I've ever been too. The ingredients are fresh and local and the dishes they're in are inovative and perfectly prepared. The house smoked salmon is to die for. In fact, everything I tried was to die for. It's a great find at a great resort that seems out of the way, but apparently a lot of people know about it and it's definitely worth a visit for the food if nothing else. read more

We are staying at the Algonquin for 4 nights in the lovely and quiet town of St Andrews. The Braxton's lounge is the casual dining option of 2 restaurants in the hotel. I would say that the food is okay but pricey and not all that expertly made. A Margherita flatbread pizza had raw tomatoes atop of pizza dough with melted tasteless mozzarella and some basil leaves sprinkled around. Grilling the entire flatbread would have made the whole thing much better, along with some kind of seasoning. But as it was, it was tasteless. I also had the sirloin hoping that a more straightforward entree would be easier on the kitchen. while the protein was fine the veg was under-cooked. The staff is seasonal, coming from all over Canada to earn money at summer resorts so maybe by the end of the season, the food will improve. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of options in town that are not deep fried. Given the beauty of the hotel and the surroundings, I would have thought that the food would be a grade better. read more

One of the best smoked salmon platters I've ever had, from local businesses in St. Andrews. The naked lobster is well made and makes it easy to pretend you fit in to the more formal atmosphere without getting up to your arms in shell fluid. Went here for supper the other night. Service was great and the food was unreal. I had the brisket bowl and my wife had the bbq flat bread. I've never had brisket so tender and flavourful. I was slightly disappointed in dessert. It was clear that it was just a store bought, mass produced dessert. But I guess I can't expect there to be someone ready to make all the desserts from scratch back there. read more

A bit pricey but worth every penny. The staff were friendly - Joshua was a great waiter, great recommendation of a wine to pair with our lobster bowl and very attentive throughout the meal. The food was exceptional - Caesar salad, lobster bowl and creme brûlée for me and bread pudding for my partner. I would have the lobster bowl right now if I could - salivating!
