Amazing Sunday evening dinner on the patio. Fixed price menu was amazing. Sunset is the ultimate dessert! Blueberry crepe!

Don't let the name fool you because it is not a tea house. That was the original name that is respectfully kept for historical reference. We ate there our first night in St Andrews. Sunday nights are fixed price 3 course menu. That was great because we appreciated all the decision making being removed from a great evening. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the magnificent view. The service was great and the evening intimate.

Niger Reef is incredible. Understated. Private. Secret. If you arrive in St. Andrews, walk north or away from the end of the peninsular on Water St as far as you can until you hit the Fort. Niger Reef is my favourite restaurant in the town of St Andrews. This place has style and humility - which makes for a wonderful meal. It is difficult to describe the perfection of the cooking- small menu, but local, fresh ingredients. Must try: Lobster sandwich, daily frittata special, Roast beef sandwich (apparently the best my fellow connoisseur has ever had) the daily soup special, between the people at your table you must try EVERY dessert (seriously), but especially Strawberry/Rhubarb crumble. love, LOve LOVE.

    Unbelievable setting

Nice little cottage cafe. On the water and dog friendly on the deck. Katie had a bowl of former water. Velvet had the Fiddlehead soup. She loved it, I thought it tasted like grass. I had the soup and sandwich both great.

Excellent grilled lobster salad sandwich- the best I've ever had. The setting is charming and the service was great.

The staff is laid back and it's a no frills spot, but lots of seating and they also have some local art for sale!

It's been a while. I figured there would be new, and hopefully friendlier, staff. I was half right. There was new staff, but unfortunately, they were as unwelcoming as the last batch. This place has no prices on any of the premade sandwiches or pastries in their cases (why??), so we asked "Hey there, how much are your pies and cookies?". The employee was in the lobby sweeping and said "I'm not sure. Somewhere between $3- $5. Maybe more". She doesn't look up. Doesn't offer more clarity. She just shrugged this non-answer to us and carried on. It was awkward. So my husband, trying to make light of it, says "Sounds like it's up for debate so how about I give you $2.50" and this girl gives us a dour look and snaps "Well, I'm not behind the cash register so I can't look at the prices, can I?". So, we have now learned our lesson with this place twice. Not sure what it is about the culture there that results in such bad service years apart and by different people. We won't be returning.
