We were great by a staff member who told us all about the brewery and offered samples of the various offerings. All of the beers we tasted were very good. My husband and I each had a pint of choice and took home a growler too. The setting is very comfortable and live music is offered, although there was no live music during our visit. We drove from Southwest Harbor to Lubec on a whim this week. The whole town is very interesting and this bar was pretty much the only thing open and they close at 5! I had the Quoddy Head Red... best Red Ale I've ever had. It's a cross between a Dunedin Redhead and a Nutty Brewnette. We brought some back with us to share with family. The brewery's vibe was very different than anything I've ever experienced and the people there were VERY friendly. Our bar tender was great to talk to and we weren't made to fee like a tourist. It's worth a stop if you're in the area, you won't be sorry you did. read more

I've been in Maine for almost a month travelling from Tennessee and stopped in after doing some hiking in the area. This is by far one of my favorite breweries and I travel a good bit with frequent stops looking for great local beer. The atmosphere, the beer, and the people made it worth staying for more than just one. What a hidden gem in such a beautiful town and overall location! Due to wanting to go to every Maine brewery eventually and taking a route 1 trip honeymoon with a detour to Lubec. It was no brainer in trying to make the timing work out on stopping here. Thankfully they still had their opening hours at 11 currently and we got in there as soon as we could. We were greeted by a super friendly bartender and told her our story and just had some great conversation. One of the warmest welcomes we have ever received at a brewery anywhere! The brewery inside has so much character and I'd find it hard to believe you could find another like it anywhere else! Looks like a great spot to catch some live music and according to the bartender becomes the only place to hangout for locals during the winter. Clearly a very important establishment. I got their Holy Mole Oatmeal Stout while my wife got their Spruce Tip Sour. We had small little samples of a few other brews too. So, if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods and like beer add this to your list of places! We felt so welcomed and had such great conversations we can't wait to come back! read more

We took a day trip to Lubec from Bar Harbor. Our stop in the little brewery was awesome. Dana is a delight! We felt like regulars.-- she offered us samples and we ultimately chose the saison and the oyster stout. It was a quiet afternoon in Lubec but by the time we left , the little bar was full. This place is fantastic. My husband and I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon while on vacation, and it felt like we were regulars from the second we walked in. We sat at the bar (not on Gene's stool) and struck up a convo with a local couple (T and Jeremy) who could have been our long lost best friends. Been to Lubec Brewing Company a couple of times on visits to Lubec: Once when we overnighted there; once bringing family to visit the town. The whole atmosphere is irresistibly funky; very bohemian. Their outdoor garden is very conducive to good imbibing and conversation. All worthy of 5-stars. That said, on both occasions, it's been VERY clique-ish, with the staff/bartenders pretty much keeping to themselves and friends, it seems. The first time I visited with a former brewmeister, who tried to engage with the folks behind the bar counter, but to no avail. The second time, my niece and I popped in while the folks visited Campobello, and, again, there wasn't any friendly "Welcome!" or even just a grunt! Perhaps they're tired of "visitors" outside of the area? Don't know. But I felt very "invisible" on both visits. Needless to say, it gets no-stars for service; the ambiance bumps it up for an overall 3-stars. Won't be back; but, I'm sure they don't care.... :( read more

Love this place! Amazing beer and friendly people. They no longer serve food, but you can bring in outside food. Many delicious beers to choose from. The owner/brewer knows his trade! My wife and I had a delightful time talking to him, the bartender and the retired priest who has his own labeled chair at the bar while sampling great beers. I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for some afternoon drinks. The Lubec Brewing Company is separated into 2 parts, 1 that sells merchandise and bottles and a second inside JuJis which serves food and acts as their taproom and does growler fills. We visited both, first getting some drinks in JuJis before buying some glassware and a to go bottle next door. JuJis itself consists of a bar along with a bunch of random tables throughout the rest of the dining room. Lunch is served 11-2, drinks 2-5 and dinner 5-9. We arrived just as lunch was getting finished and there were maybe 10 people in the place. I only mention this because the bartender was clearly in the weeds although he was trying hard. So as you might expect service was slow and it took about 10 minutes to order and then another 10 or so before we were served. As I often do whenever I visit a brewery, I went with a flight here. Since I didn't see it on the menu I asked about one and was told that I could order 4 beers of my choice for $12 or could try all 8 beers for $24. I decided on only the 4 beers and went with the red, black ale, IPA and Sour summer ale. The first beer that I tried was the Quoddy Head Red which starts off with a bit of harshness before finishing with a bit of caramel flavor. Up second was the Baileys Mistake (Black Ale) which had dark and complex malts from start to finish which made for a nice easy drinking beer. Third was the Johnson Bay IPA which was a really smooth IPA (English IPA probably?) with a touch of sweet and bitter on the finish. Last but not least was the Clammed Slammer (Sour Summer Ale) which started off nice and clean before a touch of sourness in the finish. I actually missed it on my first sip and had to search hard to find that touch on subsequent ones. Out of the bunch, I would have to say that Baileys Mistake was my favorite out of the bunch. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. While the service was slow (probably not used to that volume), I did enjoy the beers that I tried here. read more

Lubec Brewing Company is no doubt the best brewery I've been to in my life. From the beer selections, to the kind and friendly staff (especially Gale), to the atmosphere..cannot say enough good things about this place! My friend and I came to Maine for the first time, and visited many breweries here and Lubec was by far the best one. We're from New Jersey, so we're not used to this sort of kindness and hospitality. I especially loved the daybreak double IPA and my friend loved the red ale. **ALSO COVID FRIENDLY - outdoor tables are socially distanced, everyone wears masks, and Gale's wife even made a homemade hand sanitizer** Gale - if you read this, thank you again for the amazing experience and we will definitely recommend this place to all of our friends! Just passing through Lubec and stopped here based on the reviews. So glad we did. They use fresh, local ingredients. The dishes we tried were unique....in a good way! The pizza dough is made from a sour dough starter that is 9 generations old. It was excellent. The Portuguese Sausage and Kale soup was also very good. And, I finally got to try fiddleheads..they taste like creamy asparagus. The beer was okay. We ordered the red ale. A local diet were performing. They were great! read more

I would give this place 10 stars if it was possible... I was passing through Lubec really late, after visiting the West Quoddy Head, the Eastern Most Point in the USA... Even though the kitchen was closed, the really nice couple, who run this brewpub here, told me that they want to feed me because there was nothing else open for miles... They went out of their way to make me feel welcome... Now to the food and beer; They have some really good beer that they brew on site, and creative entree's on their menu.... I stopped in here for a drink after running the Bay of Fundy Marathon. They had benches outside, but I wanted to get out of the sun, so I found a seat at the bar. The bartenders were nice and friendly, but they only had one beer on tap... Quoddy Head red ale. With live music, it seemed like a very nice place to hang out. However I was looking to drink something besides a red ale. So after finishing my beer, I was on my way back to my room to recover from the race. read more

So I went up to Lubec in the off season (early Nov, 2019) to get a look at the light house and find out what the easternmost town in the US was like after all the tourists left. Well, all I can tell you is to arrive around 2:00 pm and you'll be pleasantly surprised that the Lubec Brewing Company opens most days off season from 2-5. As luck would have it, I arrived at 2:15. Small bar, with owner Gale tending, offered a sample of several of their brews after which I settled in for a few pints of the especially tasty red ale. If you need to get away for a few days, particularly if life is feeling a bit crowded, I can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

I used to be a supporter of this business until I met the highly opinionated female owner. Her attitude is off the charts (as is her ability to ignore facts) and I will never set foot back in that establishment again. I feel sorry for her husband who seems like a really nice guy; but there are far too many other great brew pubs to choose from in our great state so this one comes off the list. My recommendation for anyone visiting Lubec who wants to enjoy a great meal is to cross the street and go to Water Street Tavern - if you want something more casual then Cohill's is your place. read more

On a late afternoon in July where every seaside town in Maine is flooded with vacationers, Lubec is virtually empty, except for Lubec brewing! Towns are discovering that beer, food, and music all help build community and catalyze a local economy. Lubec brewing is attempting to do all three at once. The brewery is one of the more interesting decorated tasting rooms I've seen in Maine, with an assortment of picnic tables, regular tables, and couches. The front corner has a generous stage where acoustic singers lure the few stray pedestrians who wander down the street. We made a couple of visits here first to sample the beer an a later visit to check out the food. We tried seven of their beers and they have attempted to be creative in their breadth of styles. I found none of the classic styles to be outstanding but give them credit for being the first full fledged brewery in the area. On both occasions I did notice a slight iodine taste to two of the beers. At first I thought this was from the hops being overused but it could have also been from not fully flushing the lines of disinfectant. It was especially noticeable right after a keg change. Staff is very welcoming though when food service starts at 5pm, they clearly get overwhelmed in trying to keep the kitchen on schedule. One table of 6 near us waited for over an hour for their pizzas and only 2 of them got their meals and it appeared the rest gave up and left even after an extensive discussion with the owner. Our pizzas came out in a reasonable time and the local ingredients were fresh and the crust thin and delicious. When the music was near starting the place filled to capacity (40 people) and people were turned away at that point, so if you are coming get here early but not too early if you want to eat (they begin service at 5pm). I'll be back again to see how this new brewery is evolving. They are a great asset to the local community and will have to decide on how to balance beer making and being a restaurant. Not an easy task to be good at both but they seem to committed to making this welcome business to Lubec. read more

We had the pleasure of meeting the owner (Gale or Gayle....sorry on spelling) he was very welcoming, friendly and loves to talk about his beer. He went out of his way to make us welcome and chatted as we sampled. I gave it a 4 because the beer was amazing but the kitchen was not open quite yet. He did let us try the bread they use with the spent barley and it was delish. Also if he has it try the Pom Pom, you will not regret it. read more

Live music, friendly locals, and pretty good local food and brews. It features a few communal table/benches, some smaller two or four tops, and couch seating. We listened to the acoustic live musician in the corner, and chatted with some of the laid back and friendly locals. Make sure to grab a cribbage set from the game box to play while you wait for your food. They had five beers on tap: I can't remember them all, but they had a red, a black ale, an IPA, and an English bitter. My friend got the red (pretty good, most popular) and I got the IPA (not bad, but not the best ME beer I've had either). Their menu (other than pizza) is constantly changing, so make sure to check out what they have available that day (They're pretty active on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Lubec-Brewing-Company-1406990739591377/timeline). Our pepperoni pizza on their homemade sourdough was in the pretty good territory (thinner crust, very greasy, a little soggy but still very tasty) as was their haddock chowder. The item that really blew us away was the roasted roots, ramps, and fiddleheads. They really showcased their local sourcing with this dish, and it is a clear example of a simple dish with local, seasonal ingredients done well. Fiddleheads are apparently only available fresh in the spring/early summer in Maine, so I'm super glad I got to try them. Best new dish I've had in a long time! read more

It was such a treat to find this amazing gem during our trip to the east cove of Maine. I got to sample a bunch of all awesome beers with the super friendly staff and then brought a couple of jugs back to our Airbnb. Spent 2 nights in Lubec and so happy to discover this warm and friendly place on a Saturday night in October. Great pizza and vegan options. Tasty beers and everything they can get locally, they do. I had a sausage (real meat) soup which hit the spot. The others stuck to veggie and vegan choices and all were happy. There was live music and the place was full of people who knew each other. Fun and quirky little place where local artists play and locals sit for a brew or two in the town of Lubec. Not much goes on here and the menu is limited but simple and good. We chose hummus (very veggie-licious) , some haddock patties and a 4 cheese pizza. You don't come here for the food but for the atmosphere so a 5 stars is worth it. While LBC no longer offers food, they provide free samples and plenty of insight into the ingredients. While chatting, the employees recommended other breweries (e.g. Marshall Wharf Brewing Company in Belfast, ME) that we later visited.
