Red Bean is literally my favorite place to get ice cream in Downtown Annapolis. Nearly every time I'm in town my friends would suggest we go here or I would suggest we get ice cream here. It's a little further up from the main harbor area, but the walk and wait is worth it. The location has gained popularity which would account for the lines coming out of the store during prime time summer ice cream weather. But!!! It's totally worth it. The shop's interior is like any other cafe, but the seating is very limited so I would suggest to take your ice cream to go. When I came here I opted to get a medium size in a waffle cone since I wasn't expecting a lot of ice cream. Fortunately and unfortunately I was wrong. The amount of ice cream they give you in a medium is enough for two people! What's unique about this ice cream shop is that the toppings or mix ins as they call it are mixed into your ice cream. They use a machine to combine your mix ins with your ice cream and then they carefully put it inside a cone or cup! You can customize your flavors starting with a chocolate or vanilla ice cream base. They have toppings and such listed on the menu, however I like to order right off the pre-made ice cream flavors that they have. My favorite flavors are Caramel Pretzel and Pistachio Dark chocolate with a vanilla ice cream base. They also offer teas, coffees, and other drinks if you're in the mood for something that isn't ice cream. read more

Great independent coffee shop! We popped in here on a warm January Saturday. Many people were enjoying their good looking affogatos (that's ice cream with a shot of espresso). We opted for hot chocolates--regular for him and peanut butter-chocolate with almond milk for me. Another time I might have been disappointed with the medium-richness of the hot chocolate, but that day it was just right for what I wanted. The peanut butter flavor was a great addition! The bad news here is the abysmal layout and use of space for customer seating. Furniture placement is awkward, and there isn't enough seating. Sitting on a tall bench at the back of the shop, we had no where to place our drinks and tons of dead space in front of us and to the side. There was a large couch in the middle of the area that should have been where we were. Up at the front of the shop they have seating in 3 areas for a total of 8 people in like 500sq ft or more of space. Sorting this all out would really up the atmosphere here. read more

My go-to place for ice cream. The staff is always extremely helpful if for *some* odd reason you can't understand the menu. I always get a vanilla base with espresso and milk chocolate-chips (try it). Their waffle cones are always made in house. Just be aware it's soft serve ice cream. The ambiance is nice and they always have great music playing in the background. Not really a complaint, but just be aware if you go with big parties there isn't a ton of room to sit. They offer you the option to make your own or you could choose from the ones they have available. When creating your own: 1) you choose your base (chocolate or vanilla) 2) add 2 more items (includes flavor or toppings) each additional topping after that is 50 cents. Love love love!! One of my favorite ice cream places in Annapolis (and there are a lot)! If you're visiting in town, I'd recommend you try Red Bean before any other ice cream parlor. You're able to choose mix-ins to add to your chocolate or vanilla base. The first two mix-ins are free, anything more than that is a little extra out of your wallet. Nice place to stop in for an iced coffee. Was not too busy which was a relief from the hustle and bustle of Main Street. The interior is open and it was nice to be able to grab a table. We ordered the espresso brownie ice cream in a waffle cone. It was delicious as it was mixed with vanilla ice cream. Very creamy, thick, and rich. Soooo good. The iced coffees were very refreshing and nice. Now, the only negative part about our visit was with one particular drink...we saw that they were offering Basil Lime-ade. Sounded refreshing and delicious on a sunny day. We ordered two and yeeeow, they were so sour they made our cheeks pucker. I like a heavy hand with the citrus but ohhhhh my, it tasted like there were 50 squeezed limes in my drink?! The basil was overpowering. What a cute little icecream/coffee shop that is located in the popular area of Downtown Annapolis. YOU JUST CAN'T MISS IT! There are two base flavors to choose from: chocolate or vanilla. Next, you get to choose the items you want your icecream to have, such as fruits, sweets, etc. What I love about it is just how customizable and personal you can make your icecream. I chose Blakcberry Cheesecake with a vanilla base, and I must say, I loved my decision. It was delicious, however, because I don't eat that much, I had to stuff the remaining forcefully down my belly (which isnt a bad thing at all bc i would rather have a bigger portion than smaller). You walk in everyone says hello to you and from there you pick out your favorites stuff to have in your ice cream and then they make it for you. When you taste it you get an explosion of flavors in your mouth. The coffee on the other hand is just perfect do you want something strong do you want light well they have it all. This review is just for the flavored coffee drinks. I am loving the peanut butter mocha. Wish there was a bit more of the peanut butter flavor though. The Tahitian vanilla latte is actually pretty mild and my boyfriend had to go and ask if it was actually the right order. But the service was great and they happily added more syrup to his drink. Would have to come for some good old espresso and americano next time for me to really tell how good their beans are. read more

Very sleek, modern cafe here. They provide an extensive yet simple menu with ice cream, coffee and hot tea - a perfect place for dessert while taking a stroll along main street. My friend had their white blueberry tea while I had the green blueberry tea. You could smell the blueberry aroma all around, it felt very nice, warm and cozy. I usually like making my drinks sweet but added minimal agave syrup to my tea and it was just right. There's a romantic ambiance to this café as well. Good spot for a date! read more

This is an ice-cream and coffee shop. The ice-cream here is kinda like a mcflurrie. HAHA. They have a base of vanilla or chocolate and then an assortment of toppings that you blend into the base. There are favorites that they have listed, but because the base is either coffee or vanilla based you don't get much of other flavors. We got the cin chili dark chocolate, peach honey graham, and the coffee. The coffee esp was not very strong because the base wasn't an actual coffee flavored ice-cream. For your ice cream, you pick chocolate or vanilla then choose mix-ins to be blended to make your own soft serve flavor - I haven't found any other place that does their ice cream this way. There's tons of combinations to choose from, including their suggested/popular combinations. You definitely can't go wrong if you pick one of those. The ice cream my kids ordered was truly exceptional (yes, I snuck a bite) and the service was great. I had a Chemex pour-over which was quite good as well. The Red Bean was recommended to us by a staffer at the state house-I figured that if anyone would know the pulse of the local scene, it would probably be those guys. Anyway, I love finding these local coffee spots-so much more rewarding than pho ring it in at the nearest 'Bucks. Wish there was a larger selection of things to nosh, but in fairness it was toward the end of the day, so it's possible that they had sold through. We went a few weeks ago with the kids and it was good...the flavoring my wife chose, espresso, was not very flavorful, but the kids liked their ice creams, especially the process with the auger mixing. I went back this morning after Cars and Coffee with my son and his friend. My son asked for a shake with brownie and cookie dough. We noticed the lady put in bananas instead. Before putting it into the mixer, I let her know. She took out the bananas and then proceeded to start making the shake with the same ice cream. I let her know that my son didn't want ice cream that had been covered in bananas...I got quite the eye roll from the lady behind the counter. However, post eye roll, she proceeded to return the ice cream to the container, and then dig up new ice cream for my son. I guess the next person gets the ice cream pre-treated with bananas. I also wonder if this process meets code. The person taking our order asked my son if we wanted whipped cream on top of his shake which my son, enthusiastically, said yes to. The person behind the counter then attempted to dispense it, and nothing came out because he was out of CO2. After talking to his colleague, his response was that we were out of luck as he was out of CO2. My son wasn't happy, but thankfully he didn't make a scene. I gave 2 starts instead of 1 because my son and his friend did like what they received. However, if I am spending almost $11 for a shake and a small ice cream, I expect better service. read more

The smell of coffee and tea is welcoming when you walk in. The space is nice and comforting. There are several unique flavours of ice cream. I tried peach honey graham mixed with graham cracker and cheesecake in a waffle cone. I love the piece of newspaper that they use to wrap the ice cream cone in.
