I grew up on Cedar Creek Lake, graduated Mabank High School in 2004. Though often nostalgic, I do not participate in ceremonies such as reunions or class "get togethers." That being said, I do go home once a year and always tend to stop in to a hometown bar or two. When you walk in you notice pool table and shuffleboards. The bar is directly across if you walk in the front entrance. There is also ample parking and a backdoor entrance. The place is smoky. Best of all, after 9PM it is pretty full. Each time I have gone the barkeeps have been kind, they put koozies on the bottles and hold a card for a tab. It has a certain small town charm. They have a full bar, and offer a couple of drafts as well. The first reviewer is right. Fights do break out. However, they usually disintegrate just as quickly. It is a great mix of people, usually the hard workers of the town, older and younger couples, plenty of singles and some pool sharks. When I arrived before Christmas I happened to run into so many old friends from school, and even some new faces visiting from out of town. Most of all and over all, very kind people. That has been the case each time I have gone. It has that small town feel, kind hard working folks, and some 20-30 somethings looking for a bit of trouble. Is this a 5 star bar? Probably not. It is dark, smokey and poorly decorated. A fight might break out. However, if you are visiting from out of town and looking for a whiskey or beer, a sweet bartender and a kind conversation, all in a city with an epic name like "Gun Barrel," the. Rita's is a good go to that has been in Cedar Creek Lake longer than I have been alive and then some.
