(Kim's Kitchen) Nes went with the steak and eggs, and I had a Texas staple -- chicken fried steak with bell peppers and onions, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. Just happened upon this cute little place! Although tiny the service and food was grand! Our service was excellent! Found out our server even bakes the fresh sourdough bread they sell! And her sister, the owner, makes the pies! Those at the table enjoyed their selected meal and there was even need for take home boxes! We had a groupon for here and this is exactly what you would expect from a local breakfast place. Lots of locals and lots of Jesus. The food was fine, but not great. It took awhile to get served but she was quick to bring coffee or drinks during the wait. The best thing was tried was the Texas size pancake. It was huge, but the syrup has a really strange aftertaste. I'm not even sure what it was, not maple syrup tasting. Very unusual. Overall, not great, just a place to starve off hunger or a place to shoot the bull with neighbors. read more

Very disappointed. We went in Monday just after 10 am. There were only 2 tables occupied. There were a total of 6 adults and 2kids and the wait time on the food was anywhere from 45 min to an hour which was ridiculous and made no sense. The food was way overpriced and the quality wasn't there. I ordered the taco salad which seem to have maybe 10 chips hidden underneath the meat lettuce cheese and tomatoes. I literally had to dig for them to find them. and on top of tha, it wasn't filling at all. My Sis ordered the green chili chicken soup and again we couldn't see any chicken. if it was in there then it was as small as rice because we did see small little specks of whit. She was definitely charged for it which she was not happy about at all. Last was the wait on the ticket. We waited at least about another 15 minutes or more. I finally had to get up and ask if we were getting the tickets anytime soon. Overall we were there for a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours and would pay the ridiculous high prices at a very much nicer restaurant, definitely NOT, the ranch house. Every single time except for today, the steak has been a 10/10. very crispy and tasty, with gravy poured over top. I love it so much I can't get myself to try anything else!! My husband and I wanted a quick breakfast before heading back home from a weekend hiking in Palo Duro. This place hit the spot! I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon, cheese, and an over medium egg. Everything was cooked perfectly and the bread on the sandwich was so good!! It was like Texas toast but light, fluffy, and even a little sweet. My husband ordered eggs, bacon, potatoes, and a pancake. I can't vouch for the quality of his whole meal but I did steal some of his pancake and it was the fluffiest pancake I've seen ever! It was crispy around the edges, soft on the inside, and just sweet enough. They also had the best coffee I had in three days in Canyon!! Stumbled upon this small-town gem on the way back from the Palo-Duro canyon. We weren't too sure about it when we first pulled up because it doesn't look like much. It's small, dusty, and very old. Drive a bit too fast and you'd miss it. We walked in and a waitress told us she'd seat us in a little bit. We stood there for about 5 minutes reading over the menu. We could've sat ourselves, but we waited for this waitress who promised us she'd be back. She never showed, but after a while, another waitress came by and saw us standing there and showed us to a table. We started with some iced sweet teas ($1.80) and an order of the queso and chips ($4.50). Now, when I ordered the queso, the waitress asked me if I wanted the "large" queso. I told her "yes" but when it came out, the bowl looked awfully small. If this is the large, then what in the world is the small order? A shot glass of cheese? Oh well, enough bitching. The queso was generic - pretty tasty. The chips were really thin and light and not too salty. Excellent. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken-fried Chicken ($9.30), a favorite of mine. It comes with a trip to the salad bar and a side of your choice. I ordered the french fries. Notice how I said it came with "a trip to the salad bar". That's right. You only get a bowl which you are allowed to fill ONCE with salad. So make that one trip count, soldier and pile it up with as much salad as humanly possible. Nothing special at the salad bar - just iceberg lettuce, onions, croutons and bacon bits. The chicken-fried steak arrived shortly after I finished my salad. It's not a terribly large piece of chicken, but its exactly half of a chicken breast. The batter they use isn't a typical chicken-fried variety, but it's not bad. It's very thin and light and not overly greasy. I like the breading a lot. I never like white-meat chicken, but this was really moist and tender. Like, oh WOW. The french fries were delicious as well and the meal came with buttered Texas toast! What a meal. Next time, I'm going for breakfast! Pros: Great country food! Cons: Needs renovations, stingy w/ the salad bar, portions could be a little more generous for the price. read more

The chicken fried steak is frozen and has a Italian breadcrumb batter that is also frozen and served mushy. It was truly horrible and unfit. Eggs and potatoes were decent as those items are very simple and on an elementary level of cooking. Anyone that serves a chicken fried steak in this region like this place should be arrested. Stopped at this place on my way out of town after a weekend visiting Canyon, TX. Great little neighborhood diner, with very friendly staff. We went for breakfast. Menu was a little small-but you can get breakfast, lunch or dinner ALL day. I ordered the build your own omelette, and boyfriend ordered chicken fried steak. My omlette was HUGE, and a great amount of food for the price. Orange Juice is a large portion, and the breading on the chicken fried steak was very flavorful. You can tell the biscuits are homemade, and everything is quality. Highlight of my meal was the hashbrowns!!! I can never perfect that level of crispiness/flavor at the same time. A great little country-ish restaurant in Canyon. 5* because everything was about perfect. Coffee not the best but it was fresh and refilled often. Waitress great and place was spotless. Everything else - Eggs, fluffy, scrambled perfect, Hash Browns, crisp on top, creamy inside, Bacon - Big thick pieces cooked to perfect doneness level. Most importantly, a lack of grease on all 3. This place is ridiculous!! Brought my family here to eat and not very busy. We were seated and took 10 minutes to get drinks orders and then we waited an HOUR for mediocre food. We expressed our concerns to waiter and he said sorry. My husband went to talk to manager about our issues and the staff said "oh you will be waiting for a while " once she decided to come she had every excuse in the book. Poor management and ownership.
