We brought a large family group for our sons communion and as per usual everyone left happy and full. The service was top class, the staff couldnt have been more attentive and a warm welcome from Management. The food was delicious, the gravy was a particular favourite across the table, as was the chocolate brownie. The kids ate really well, I liked the addition of green veg to the meals which you dont get in many restaurants. The kids loved being able to go out the back on such a gorgeous day. Went in for a quick bite on a Saturday night. Very nice staff and a busy vibe. Plenty of seating without any reservation needed. The food was unfortunately pretty forgettable. Nothing really of note. It was indeed busy but tougher than it should have been to get a bit better service once we were seated. This place absolutely exceeded our expectations for the taste as well as the service! The food was amazing...flavorful and the presentation was great....the service was outstanding and extremely friendly! We went with a group of 6 and not one of us was disappointed and even came back for a second go at this place, and were still extremely pleased! I had the Stone Fillet and gratin Potatoes with a creme brûlée and it's was fantastic or as the natives say "BRILLIANT"! Wonderful location..... Right next to one of the better castles in Dalkey! I have been here a few times now and the food is of a high quality. The last time I was here, I brought three older ladies with me two of which had food allergies and the staff were very helpful. The staff are nice. One can sit inside or outside with a view of the castle. The bathroom facilities are also quite nice. They accept bookings, and card. Very close to public transport, (i.e. the DART). Can walk from Sandycove historical trail right too the bar/resturarnt. I will be going again. read more

I came here Sunday for lunch and to be honest I was very disappointed with what I got as was my partner. I started with soup which was far too sweet for vegetable soup. Against my better judgement I got kidney & steak pie with mash. I never liked kidney but that was as a kid so I thought maybe my palette had changed - nope. Now don't get me wrong that is not the fault of The Queen. The pastry of the pie tasted like it had been left under heat lamps or such, it was quite chewy. The mash was yum! His burger looked rather sad and he said it was OK, not anything to write home about. Plus side is the service is great and homely. Wonderful Sunday afternoon atmosphere, full of folks having pints and coffee. It to me is not a go to food spot but rather a place to drink and maybe get a sandwich etc to compliment your drinks. They do run great lunch specials Monday through Friday. I would never not eat there again I just would not go there expecting to be wow-ed. read more

Terrible service !! I really want to love The Queens - with the sunny weather it is such a great place to sit outside and have a few drinks. On Saturday myself and a friend were there for exactly that and the service was really bad. Firstly I ordered an Absolut and Soda with lime and was told they had none so I got a Smirnoff, they gave me a tiny bit of lime and when I asked for more they said no that they had no more. With my next drink I asked for lemon and got a tiny slice so I asked for more and got a second tiny slice. Now I wouldn't mind if there was some global fruit shortage but in a bar in the middle of a busy town with a supermarket across the street they could have gone out and bought more. I then ordered food and what I ordered was sold out so I ordered again. I ordered wine with my food and had to ask for it three times. Not once did they ask if we needed anything and every order I gave I had to try for 10/15 minutes to get their attention. The place was busy but there was an abundance of staff and they were happier to be standing chatting to each other rather then waiting the tables. read more

We stopped in for dinner after a day in Dublin. Very friendly staff and it happened to be Tuesday and Thursday are half price wine specials. Starting with the blue cheese salad which was perfectly dressed and very crisp. The dinner menu had many choices including Steaks served on searing stones. We both decided on the rack of lamb and we were not disappointed. Served with potatoes and vegetables and a rich sauce it was a very tasty meal. We added the creamed spinach and of course a bottle of Pinot Noir. A very nice combination. Dessert was equally delectable, a bread and butter pudding with ice cream.... our waitress was warm and attentive. She even ran outside ahead of us leaving the table and flagged us a cab. 6 of us went here for dinner and drinks for a friends 26th birthday last week and none of us would be in a rush to go back. The food was below average with raw chips being the low point. The steak on the stone was nice, if not a bit impractical spacewise - unless you had 2 people sharing a huge table it was a bit cramped for the flamboyantly large stones. Apart from one staff member, all the staff were unable to cope with the rush of a Saturday evening. The worst part of the night was how the staff handled a drunken altercation that occured. They watched and laughed as one patron escorted another into the alcove at the smoking area, promptly punched him the face and then left. The staff didnt assist the fallen man whose face was a bloodied mess, allowed him to leave without seeing how he was and then cleaned a pool of blood up without any gloves or health and safety precautions. Its a pity about the staff and food as the music was unbelievably good! Maybe we got a bad night but it seems a change of management is needed here. I wont be going back and I wouldnt recommend the Queens. read more

Nice outdoor terrace, lovely crowd. Fish chowder is good, fresh brown bread. We've been a few times and the food is reliable, not gourmet but good. Good value (Chowder 10 euros). The view on Dalkey Main Street of the local castle is fun, the wide terrace has lots of room, parasols are great on this sunny location. I had to wave down service each time I was there. Same for the bill, it's nice to linger, but this was neglectful service from young, very friendly but untrained staff. read more

I went to Dalkey for the lobster festival, and had dinner here. They had a special menu for the weekend. The sun was out and it had stopped raining, so we were able to get a seat outside. It was really busy. People were drinking and eating, sitting under their shade area. It felt like a proper summer day out. I ordered the dublin bay scampi, which come with salad and chips. I was very happy with my food. The early bird, which was better value, was not being served because the restaurant was busy, and because of the festival, so that was a disappointment. We very much enjoyed this pub. First, how cool is it to sit and eat in an old house next to Dalkey Castle? Second, they have ample beer on tap! They also have many of the local beers, as well as the usuals. Third, their seafood chowder with the brown bread is fantastic! I rarely get full off of a bowl of chowder, but I had a hard time finishing this one! The flavor was fantastic as well. Everyone was very happy with their orders, service was great and not too expensive. Definite improvement on the food front. I think the South County Dublin crowd just like to rile everyone up a bit by naming all there institutions in overtly West British ways, The Queens has to be the key example of this. This is a great pub for spending an afternoon sipping on pints, watching a match, with a big group. It has ample indoor and outdoor seating which make it unlikely you'll ever have to stand for long, but all bets are off when the Six Nations is on. They do an okay coffee, if you don't like to drink hard liquor at midday, and they have decent pub grub too. I think there's a night-club upstairs, actually, but I've never been. I can't imagine that's much fun, but hey, I've been wrong before. The Queens is a nice bar and really is an institution in this area, so four stars. read more

Perfect spot to soak up sunshine in Dalkey. Enjoyed a glass of wine in the lovely front patio area overlooking the Dalkey Castle and took in some Vitamin D. And, that's just dandy enough... :) On a side note, it's a good spot for a restroom break upon returning from a hike to see the coastline and sites surrounding Dalkey Island. The liveliest and biggest bar in the village; Queens is pretty spacious, a big patio seating area to the front which is a top notch sun trap, then inside there is plenty of seating. Layout is a bit awkward however at least pride and place is the large bar in the centre. Floor staff are friendly, though at the bar I don't get the same feeling; often takes a while to get served with little or no pleasantries from the bar staff. They serve food til late, menu covering the usual pub grub fair of sandwiches, salads, burgers and steaks (steak on the stone too). Probably showing my age here but for me, the atmosphere is a little off... This place attracts the younger local crowd but then mixed with some older people, tourists thrown in and I dunno... It's just not for me. There are some other great local pubs in the village where you always feel welcome by all the staff, bar men recognise you, chat away to you and the atmosphere is more mellow. read more

If walking or driving through Dalkey you can't but notice the Queens pub. Situated just beside Dalkey Heritage Centre its the outdoor area off the pavement as you pass which grabs your attention (especially on a sunny day). The urge to grab a table, a drink or some food and just enjoy the sunshine is difficult not to succumb to (the times I haven't been able to, I've just glared jealously at those enjoying the sunshine) :( As well as the outdoor section at the front there is also an outdoor section at the back. The interior is what you would expect from somewhere in Dalkey, nice, clean, varnished wood and brass, some lovely fires to cuddle up beside on a chilly day and a couple of armchairs and sofas to lounge on. They also have a restaurant section and do a "steak night" on Wednesdays, all steaks being €15.95. There is a comedy club and a singles night once a month so there's a lot going on at the Queens. Drinks are good though price wise not the cheapest. They're food is pretty good; of note the chicken wings, the seafood chowder and the burgers hit the spot. For lunch there's a soup & toasted sandwich deal for €8. It is a nice atmosphere and the staff is friendly. There is a nightclub (though I've never been) and they have a function room for hire. A little pricey but the Queens is damn nice to enjoy on a sunny day with the paper and a cool beer outside or cozied up by the fire inside. I will come back to try one of their steaks on a Wednesday... read more

Horrendously rude service, being forced to sit an area where myself and partner did not want to sit and told we must because we couldn't sit at a table for four even though there was many others doing the same thing and plenty of free tables, when we explained we wanted to stay where we were, we were told abruptly that 'we mustn't work in the industry' as a local I will never be back and am still in shock at lack of manners and dismal service. read more

This place is just short of amazing, the food is top class and not to expensive. You got to try the steak on the stone, you actually cook it yourself to your liking, the service is excellent also with a wait time no longer than 15mins for your food... right, this place is a nice pub and i wouldnt turn down the offer of a pint in here. so, one evening a group of friends and I booked dinner in here before a production that was on in the hall next door. we booked two weeks in advance so they knew we were coming and they knew how many of is there was. so we arrived, there were about 20 of us, a few less than we had booked for. we were seated in a nice area cut off from the rest of the pub, we got our menus,nice selction to choose from. then we realised that we only had ONE person serving us, for a group fo 20! unbelievable! the poor girl was totally stressed out and the chef was a moody so and so that was making her life hell as far as we could see. half of us were served way before the other half. we were there for so long waiting that we had to cancel desert so that we could make the play. And the second half didnt even get to finish their main course. very disappointing. nice pub though! read more

The Queens is the quintessential Dalkey pub...a little bit middle-aged man with a smattering of youth. There's comfy seats and fires (in the winter...oh let's face it, in the summer too sometimes!), mixed with more modern bar stools and a vaguely modern finish. It does decent food and can get quite packed of an afternoon, particularly if there's a (rugby) match on, when southsiders converge on the pubs for an afternoon's drinking and shouting at the television (be ready for some good-natured slagging if you're not a Leinster supporter). Wonderful location in Dalkey with views of the castle and main commercial street. There's a large outside (40+ person) patio seating area where we spend several hours on multiple days. Great people watching, food was really good, attentive service and great place to soak up the local flavor. I took a group of 12 out for dinner in the Queens and I can't praise this place enough. Everybody got a steak on the stone and agreed that it was the best steak they ever had. The service was brilliant and they were such nice people to deal with (I called and changed my reservation time multiple times and at short notice and they were always very accommodating) Free samples of craft beer were given out before the meal and was a lovely touch. Dalkey is a south side Dublin suburb with a reputation for being rather affluent. The village itself is really pretty and tidy and The Queens is possibly one of the most well known bars/restaurants in the area. I was in here earlier in the year - New Year's Day in fact - and it was really busy, but in a good way. My friends and I got a table fairly quickly and despite the hustle and bustle in there the service was very fast and efficient. The young girl waiting on us was very helpful and obliging - especially when I wanted a glass of cold water to quench my thirst, a glass of hot water for my Lemsip for my cold and a glass of white wine for my hangover! My friends had the soup of the day - delicious by all accounts - and I had chowder, which was yummy. Everything came with good brown bread and the bill was just over €30. We were very impressed. The Queens has a lovely outdoor area too, which is a gorgeous place to sit on a warm summer's evening. read more

Review is for the restaurant. We visited with a party of 4. We enjoyed steak, lamb and sea bass. The steak and lamb were served with hot stones which allows each guest to finish their meet to their exact preferred temperatures. Service was terrific.
