My Wife, my Son and myself trekked to Jamestown to visit The National Comedy Center. We parked in a ramp and headed for the destination. My well traveled son pointed out the Pub. We entered. It had the throwback ambiance that I like. The Bartender let out with a sincere greeting. Such hospitality, the waitress that lead us to our table was more than cheerful and welcoming. Once again my reaction was;" Such hospitality." My son pointed out they don't take credit cards. My reaction? Oh Hell thats not very hospital. My point? You're in the hospitality industry! Heavens above be hospital! My Wife and Son enjoyed their selections. I would have enjoyed my Ziti with Vodka Sauce much more if the sauce been hotter. On our way out the waitress bid us a cheerful and sincere farewell. The Bar Keep expressed their gratitude. For me the attempt at hospitality fell short. You know why. read more

We found this restaurant from another Yelp review. There were 4 of us. We tried stuffed banana peppers, sausage ravioli, beef on weck , and Angel hair pasta with meatballs. Everything was excellent. The bartender was a great conversationalist too. He gave us some great tips for the area. We enjoyed our dinner so much we went back 2 nights later. I am glad we found this little gem in Jamestown. It has a nondescript front but don't let that deter you. It was packed on this Friday evening. The Pub offers a sort of lounge atmosphere to it, conducive to good conversation and relaxing drinks at reasonable prices. In fact, it is a little more upscale than the average bars in the area generally catering to a more 30 something age group. The best food is the beef on weck, but it's all well done, sitting in its juices in a stainless container. It certainly isn't anything like the beef on weck you'll find in other places equipped with a carving station, but since there aren't any such places in Jamestown, this is about the best beef on weck you can find. read more

The spicy pepper soup is the best soup my wife and I have ever had. Hands down. It is some combination of pepper, beef ,cream and rice. Wow. That was just the beginning of our experience. How about a total step back in time to the golden era of postwar America? It feels like you walked back into 1949 or so. Sandwiches and a bar, no credit cards. Red naugahyde booths with Formica table tops, faux brick on the walls with smoky beer mirrors and fish tanks. Music and TV at reasonable levels, and people can hear each other speak in normal tones. In Manhattan they'd spend a fortune to re-create this; this place just still is. The atmosphere makes up the whole experience. Bet it'd be terrific to come in in the middle of winter. I'm a local and I love this place. The Pub is very similar to a pub that you would find in the UK. The interior is intimate and quiet. You can sit down to cold drinks, amazing food and great conversation. A lot of the food is made from scratch and does not disappoint. My favorites are the Pub burger and Mary's Lasagna. Walking in my initial impression was, this is going to be an Irish Pub, with all the beautiful wood, booths, and leaded glass. But apparently this is an "Italian" Pub and the food was really good although it is not fancy and prices are reasonable. We were told everything is made in house and it tasted like it. The choice of pasta sauces were all excellent and very smooth. We actually went back the next day and ate again we enjoyed it that much. Being in W NY I had to try their beef on weck. Bun was fresh and meat tender but I could have used a side of au jus. Not sure if that is traditional presentation but plain meat on a roll with a little horseradish just seems to be missing something but it was still good. Wife loved her pasta and meatballs in spicy sauce. Next day I got the stuffed hot peppers with roasted pepper marinara and wife got mac and cheese. Hers very creamy and we both were very happy. Another thing I appreciated was the portions weren't way oversized as is the case with many restaurants that serve pasta. I don't need 5 lbs. of pasta for $17, just give me an adult portion for $9.99 and call it a day. Drawbacks: understaffed and the bar tenders not only serve drinks but assemble plates as there is a steam counter behind bar with prepared food hot and ready. This led to longer waits than you'd normally tolerate but you could see they were hustling back there. Also, it is cash only. read more

This is a nice, low-key place to grab lunch or dinner. You can choose to sit at the bar, a tall table alongside the bar, or at the booths in the back. The restaurant is kept clean at all times (including their restrooms). They have a nice variety of foods to pick from on their menu for very reasonable prices *win*. I really enjoyed their reuben sandwich! I really want to try their burgers at some point, so I'll definitely be back. I like how the sandwiches are served with potato chips. Their waitress and bartender were also very nice and welcoming. At night, the pub becomes a fun bar with fun people - you won't see drunks in this place, unlike other places in town. The bartenders are fun and make great drinks. The only negative about the place is that it's cash only, however they do have an ATM in the back. If you're into Styrofoam plates, plastic cutlery and microwaved food, then this is the place for you. It's probably best to go to the pub to get drunk and watch sports... don't take a date here for food. First of all, I like the atmosphere of the place. It looks nice and feels very 'old school.' Other than that, this place is way under par. Don't expect to be able to pay with a credit card. This 'old school' establishment won't accept them. Don't expect to find a working ATM in Jamestown either. We ordered a rueben and a meatloaf sandwich. Both were literally microwaved behind the bar. The meatloaf sandwich was two slices of pre-made meatloaf on bread. Served with chips and a pickle. Same for the rueben... ham and cheese on bread with chips and a pickle. All microwaved, and served on Styrofoam plates. Obviously, this place is a local favorite. I don't get it... an $8 sandwich should at least be prepared from scratch and put on a plate. read more

The Pub has been a Jamestown institution for quite a while. I have been told my first "visits" here were in utero, so I guess I have been a long-time fan! Sadly, an electrical fire late in 2013 caused extensive damage and The Pub was completely destroyed. Kudos to the Lisciandro/McCusker family, and the support of Jamestown and government agencies, for bringing The Pub back. The inside looks like a wonderful modern update of the "old" Pub. With the dark woodwork, beautiful wrap around bar, sandwich station, and cozy booths, you can take a seat for a drink, or have your whole family meet up for a casual dinner. The menu features sandwiches, Italian favorites, pizza, burgers, salads, and other basic fare. The center of the bar is a little sandwich station where you can see your sandwich made up in front of you. I had a BLT while my mom had the eggplant parm sandwich. I had mine on a whole wheat pub roll which was soft, moist, and super tasty. I loved the fresh, ripe tomato and they gave me a squeeze bottle of mayo so I could add my own amount.. My mom said her eggplant was cooked perfectly and she liked the Italian white bread and the sauce was not too sweet. We both got a side a chips and our total w/ waters was under $15. We liked seeing different items, including vegetarian, of all types. About 8 beers on tap, including local Southern Tier, and many others in bottles. Large liquor selection. They don't overstock, so some popular menu items may run out. I look forward to some more trips to The Pub in the future! PS: There was a sign as we walked in that they are cash only right now. The Pub in Jamestown, NY has the best bar food I've ever had in my life. Owned by 60s NFL legend Jim McCusker, with great recipes from his wife Mary, it's one of America's greatest watering holes, in my humble opinion. Western New York State is famous for their beef on weck sandwiches, and the Pub's can't be beat. I highly recommend getting anything with Mary's sweet pasta sauce on it, especially the eggplant parm sandwich. Really, there's nothing there I wouldn't suggest. Remodeled after a 2013 devastating fire, this place is the place to go to see and be seen by the Jamestown influential. A very long bar that was built so you can talk to everyone about politics and sports. Great service and an absolute must stop for a western New York Beef on Weck tradition. The best thing about The Pub, one of the staples here in Jamestown, is the eclectic atmosphere that can be found depending on the day and time you happen to pop in. The jukebox is amazing and (most of the time) the clientele and/or the bartenders do an excellent job of creating playlists for you listening pleasure. That being said, you have to learn The Pub's atmosphere. Do you want low key sport watching of your favorite college basketball team on a mellow weekday evening? That can happen. Do you want a good group of your 30-something friends having some libations and good laughs? This is possible. My mom, grandma, and I stopped in here for lunch. It was FREEZING in the restaurant, which is a big no-no for my grandma, but I'm so glad we stayed. The server was extremely friendly. She gave us recommendations for the most popular/her favorite dishes on the menu. My grandma (who's had three heart attacks) ordered her typical chicken tenders (because clearly she's a rebel). My mom and I decided to split two of the recommendations - the beef on weck and the meatball float. We both really enjoyed the beef on weck, but there was SO much meat on the bun it was a bit overwhelming. Neither of us could quite finish our halves. The au jus made the bun soggy immediately so it wasn't really the best dish to take home for leftovers. The meatball float...oh my god the meatball float. We LOVED this dish. It's so rare I find both meatballs AND sauce that I love so much. This place really nailed both. We both talked about how, even though my mom lives over an hour away, she needs to come back ASAP and get meatballs and sauce to go. For dessert, we were interested in the walnut pie. They were out, so we ordered a brownie. The server offered some caramel drizzle and walnuts to top the brownie and it really made the dish. We are from out of town and apparently western New York doesn't believe in opening anything on a Monday . Regardless, this place is mediocre at best . The menu is terribly limited as you can see . They make some of the food at the bar which is super gross to me . I want my food prepared behind closed doors if you're gonna use your bare hands service is MEH considering I can literally sit and count the people while I'm waiting of my server to come back from the 4 year long conversation he was having with someone else . There's 11 other people here .... I wouldn't waste my time or energy coming here again , especially since they don't take credit cards which just makes me assume that they're too cheap to pay the processing fees . However with their over priced beers , that cost should be covered . I wanted to wait until we got our food to even make a review because reviewing a place as being not worthy of visiting is wrong , however , considering it's been 42 minutes since we arrived and we still don't have food ..
