I agree with jimeat. I used to be a regular here (every bank holiday monday!). It is a fair drive from where I live and, of course, one of us had to forgo the beer!
Fortunately, on a Monday night, there is a folk singers meeting, when anyone who can sing or play nything at all will be invited to contribute to the entertainment. This can be heartily recommended to anyone with the slghtest interest in music.
The ales are another matter! In one side there are three guest ales, usually including Caledonian Deuchars IPA - I have spen months trying to work out what they do to this as I can't get it to taste as good! The other two guests are usually almost as palatable and always interesting. After a number of visits, I noticed so singers drinking different beers - this was when I found out that the guests on the other bar are often different! Sometimes a choice of six!
Needless to say, this is a must-visit whenever we get the time to drive there (or get someone to drive us there, even better).
I've never been during the day time, so don't know if they do food, but remember passing a kitchen when coming in from the small car park at the rear.
The onlt reason for not giving five stars is that it's a bdy awkward pub to get to! read more
