It turned out that the rave that I was going to didn't start until 3:00 pm, but I caught the bus…read morethat took me there at 10:00 am, which wasn't too bad because it meant I could go for a wander and visit some pubs that I wouldn't normally be able to visit, such as this one. It is a rather quiet English pub out in the country, with the rather charming interior that you would expect from a lot of these pubs. However, it also has a huge beer garden, which is delightful in summer, though I do have to admit that I've really only been in England during the summer so I haven't exactly experienced the worst that weather has to offer. Still, yeah, it's a rather nice pub.

I was at the Hatton Arms last night for my cousin's 18th birthday with all the family. What a…read morelovely pub! It's set just outside the charming village of Stockton Heath and has that country pub feel without having to venture too far from civilisation. The bar stocks some good ales but I opted for Old Mout Cider, a fruity little number that was perhaps a bit too easy to drink, hence a sore head this morning. There's a lovely beer garden out the back with picnic tables, parasols and plenty of grass space for kids to run around. Staff are friendly and the locals seem like decent folk ( I certainly didn't spot any track suits, which is always a good sign). Food wise, we were treated to a delicious buffet of Thai fish cakes, chicken wings, salad and pulled pork, which was delicious. So judging by this, I would imagine their everyday food menu is pretty good too.

I agree with jimeat. I used to be a regular here (every bank holiday monday!). It is a fair drive…read morefrom where I live and, of course, one of us had to forgo the beer! Fortunately, on a Monday night, there is a folk singers meeting, when anyone who can sing or play nything at all will be invited to contribute to the entertainment. This can be heartily recommended to anyone with the slghtest interest in music. The ales are another matter! In one side there are three guest ales, usually including Caledonian Deuchars IPA - I have spen months trying to work out what they do to this as I can't get it to taste as good! The other two guests are usually almost as palatable and always interesting. After a number of visits, I noticed so singers drinking different beers - this was when I found out that the guests on the other bar are often different! Sometimes a choice of six! Needless to say, this is a must-visit whenever we get the time to drive there (or get someone to drive us there, even better). I've never been during the day time, so don't know if they do food, but remember passing a kitchen when coming in from the small car park at the rear. The onlt reason for not giving five stars is that it's a bdy awkward pub to get to!

The best pub in Runcorn. It just is…read more I'm an ale drinker, so the quality of beer is my main criteria in pub choice, and the ales at The Prospect are spot on. Normally a choice of 5 or 6 ales (personally I'm rather partial to the Adnams Broadside which seems to be fairly regular). As said before, the choice of ales differs depending on which side of the bar you sit on, so make sure you check what's on the other side. Friendly staff. Really nice old-style pub, with an open fire in the winter. Food is simple, but done well and reasonably priced. Ranges from toasted sandwiches and pie and chips (Cowards pies for those in the area), to currys and more exotic stuff on the specials boards. Food service tends to stop a bit earlier than you'd expect (generally stopped by 1.30 pm at lunch, and 7.30 pm at dinner), so well worth ringing ahead if you intend to eat there.
