YAY! I'm an addict. I need my daily fix of CrossFit. It's a great thing. I was traveling to London…read morefor work and did prior research on which CrossFit boxes I could visit. Unfortunately, I didn't get as many workouts as I wanted to but Thames was on my list and I'm glad I went. There was a lot of construction going on in and around the Tube so a lot of lines were being periodically shut down and a lot of bus bridges were being run to keep everyone moving. I am terrible with direction especially when I'm in other countries. I was not able to call ahead for my visit to Thames as is customary as well as a courtesy when visiting other boxes. I was about 45 minutes late for the Saturday class because I got hopelessly lost. Jane was one of the first people to greet me. Their box isn't very big but neither is my CrossFIt gym at home. I instantly liked it. I explained that knowing I was late, I really wasn't going to be upset if I couldn't workout. Jane insisted that working out outside of the class time was OK . She was not only willing to stay with me but she ran the 400m warmup with me. I heart CrossFitters! I did a little "WOD-shoppping" looking through past workouts and was able to choose which one to do. I normally don't do that but at that point I had been in the UK for a little over a week without working out, so I felt out of it. After some Clean and Jerks and a ton of burpees I completed the workout. Some of the other ladies stuck around after their class time to cheer me on. It's always nice to have company during a hard workout. I paid the very reasonable drop in price and got a free tee shirt and bought an extra one just for for good measure. After the workout was done, the ladies were kind enough to let me tag a long with them to a local restaurant. We ate a great Paleo meal and I had a really good time! I'm glad I got a chance to hang out with the wonderful people from Thames CrossFit. I would highly recommend CrossFit for anyone who is looking to break out of their boring gym routine. The workouts are physically and mentally challenging while still being fun. And the community is something one could never get at a bigger chain gym. I mean how many times have you been able to travel the world and hang out with strangers and have it feel like family? The people at Thames were great and I look forward to going back.

Exceptional box…read more I've been coming here for about 18 months now and I am 100% a crossfit convert (I talk about it all the time etc). At the basic level, the gym has all the equipment and plenty of it. At a more intangible level, the coaches are epic and the programming is really good. Well thought out and then properly communicated to you so you understand what you're doing and why. I come to the morning sessions and everyone is really friendly. I was VERY intimidated at first but as I got to know everyone it became apparent that there's no judgement and they were all just really supportive. The only drawback of Thames is that it can get too busy sometimes. That said, the coaches have no trouble tweaking the wod so everyone fits in. I would definitely come and do the fundamentals course if you're interested in starting crossfit, or drop in if you're travelling and in the area.

They never check if everyone who joined a class actually signed up for it, so every class I went to was extremely full, with not enough equipment for everyone and no space to move around, making for a really awful experience (on top of the room being really hot!). I then tried to buy water but was promptly informed (twice) that the vending machine had not authorised my card. So far tolerable. Then some guy has the audacity to ask me to leave the gym immediately because the gym "closes at 8". He said they've been "trying to get rid of the announcement". I'd been hearing that announcement on repeat every evening for months, followed by the usual nonsense promotion about their stupid PT courses. You are "trying to get rid of it"? It's not malaria. Complete and utter joke of an establishment. Shambolic. Nevertheless, I left without fuss. When I was outside I took out my phone to book a Boris bike. My bank notification came through: I had been charged twice by the ****ing vending machine (the same one that had "not authorised" my transaction)....... Do not come to the London Wall Puregym.

However for the purposes of this review I will impart my more luxurious experience at this tucked treat. The East River Spa is delectable. It's not very big but I think that adds to it's charm. Set out east in Blackwall, its relaxation room over looks the Thames and the O2. I have much to tell you about the relaxation room, so more later. ERS is resident on the first floor of the Radisson Edwardian Hotel where it shares it's home with the hotel gym. As you may have guessed from the name, the Spa has a Eastern theme which is also reflected on the menu of treatments. Kitted out with 5 or 6 treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna, an ice fountain, 6 sensation shower which basically means hot and cold showers with different pressure and of course the panoramic relaxation room. I love this room! It has heated stone beds that are curved to the contour of your body. It such a comforting feeling and many a person have been visited by the sandman whilst relaxing. Depending on the treatment you have there is the option of champagne and strawberries but if you don't opt for those extras, a sorbet, tea and or water is offered following every treatment. If that is not enough there is ofter a bowl of fresh fruit, nuts, dried fruits, both still and sparking water and a selection of teas that you are free to help yourself to. Finally there is also a small private steam room which is used for couple and steam based treatments. So for those of you who like a naked steam it might be both booking yourself in and not scaring the general public! It's happened I promise :o| The ladies at the spa a amazing, helpful friendly and some are now my friends. It's actually quite a nice thing to do if you have evening plans at the 02. All robes, slipper, shower gel, shampoo, towels etc are provided so all you need is to pop you cozzie in your handbag and you're set. Forgive me male readers that was a little sexist, if you have a manbag great, if not you might want to been the private steam room!

This gym is a self service gym, there's not really any staff that is around to help you which I didn't find helpful my first day there as I had to walk around aimlessly looking for the women's locker room. I enjoyed the equipment and the facility was very clean . There were about three small levels, a wide variety of classes offered and the gym is 24 hours which is a plus .However they need to do a better job at making sure the bathroom is stocked with tissue and soap.

One thing to note - if you come around the usual gym peak times ie 5-7pm, expect to stand around waiting for equipment. A lot. A 1 hour session can easily become 2 just standing around twiddling your thumbs. One other thing to note - the place stinks (literally not figuratively). I know the puregym model is based on 24 hour, minimal staff but jesus. It stinks. Having a bunch of adolescent rude boys working out in the evenings with BO and screwface probably doesn't help but maybe call in a cleaning crew a few times a day. Or get better ventilation...or something.

This is the kind of gym that had to exist in a location like this. It reminds me a lot of the crowd that would come into Equinox gyms in SF and NYC: finance sector, up early, all available downtime spent on getting fit and fabulous. Just about every large gym amenity is available for you here but all of it is perhaps one notch lower on the quality bar than some of their high end competitors; the towels are not steamed with eucalyptus, the locker rooms smell of powder instead of fresh bergamont, and there is some visible wear n' tear throughout. But - they've got what feels like over a hundred classes for you to chose from at no extra cost. You can book your spot easily in their app, show up, and get business done. Just about every standard class is available (e.g. yoga, pilates, cycling, weight training, etc.) multiple times a day, seven days a week. In comparison, Equinox typically doesn't even have 1/2 of the options available here (unless things have changed in the last few years) so it's really a strong selling point for this place. It's definitely pricey for membership. But, if you make the most out of it, the cost is absolutely worth it.

That's how they treat paying customers -- by hiding behind fine print and squeezing out extra money. Josh, who handled my case, was rude, cold, and completely unhelpful. Once they've got your card details, they'll do everything they can to keep charging you. Shameful.

When you work out there you feel like you are on top of someone. It doesn't help that other gym members are selfish and leave stuff lying all over the place so you run around tracking the bits you need or that they simply hog multiple items that their many arms can use at the same time. Furthermore personal trainers also feel it's appropriate to use multiple pieces of equipment at the same time. Of course I don't matter I just pay money to be treated like garbage. Any complaints you make go nowhere. (I have been a member for years... don't ask me why i've been so patient/stupid) This is an awful gym experience. It's completely oversubscribed for the floorspace and the amount of equipment available. Other gym members ruin it for others who want to come in, workout and relieve their frustrations without feeling like they are being encroached upon or they should be wearing a hazmat suit.
