He rushed through the first appointment we had, and didn't ask many questions. Half my responses were mischarted, and he cut me off wherever I tried to ask questions, or provide detail. When confronted with the severe pain (like, in tears, after previously tolerating a thrombosed hemorrhoid), he was a condescending jerk, and tried to minimize the pain as just anxiety, initially refusing to do any exam, and never performing a DRE, before or after, actively delaying receiving the right diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner which may have helped to undo the damage he contributed to. He just said to schedule an appointment a few months out, and it would be gone by then if I used Nitroglycerin (which both didn't work, and added to irritation). A nurse initially refused to share a list of PT providers, until I finished two more bandings. He then charged my insurance $1k for a second procedure he never performed. (Edit: this was marked as an office surgery in claim, but the CPT code was correct in EOB. He did bill initial visit at 45 to 60 minutes, despite less than 15 minutes of interaction) On Yelp, others have described similar incidents, and being guided into a procedure branded as "painless" without explanation or concern when severe pain is the outcome. The entity had a negative reputation from both a local colorectal specialist, and PT. I tried to switch providers at GastroHealth, but was told that wouldn't be possible, and to seek referral to hospital system (months out) instead. After leaving a negative review, Dr Bernstein rescheduled video visits (for a rectal injury), where he contributed nothing remotely valuable. This has caused thousands of dollars in medical bills, invasive tests, temporary disability, and near constant pain, severe enough to prevent me from being able to travel over the holidays, even after months of PT. The experience has been incredibly traumatic, to trust a doctor, and go from an already distressing amount of pain (which he did nothing of value to address), to an all new kind of pain. I truly believe he is incompetent and unethical, and someone who should not be practicing medicine, especially anything colorectal adjacent.

I reached out to request a change, they called me once and while I called back numerous times they did not call back. Totally ghosted me. I will never go there again and I would think carefully about using them. I could never trust them for a more serious procedure.

So I've had A LOT of doctors, especially when figuring out my disorders. Which is still a thing. I know I'm not the best communicator but Dr.Lane and his team still try to understand and help to the best of their understanding and ability. Which there has been plenty of times where I've needed to be seen sooner and another team came in to cover. Swedish Primary Care *can* have its downs or drop the ball or just being short with people. That's kinda just being a doctor's office and being in Ballard is super busy so I get things can't always go smoothly. Honestly my biggest complaint is with parking. Which is already a complaint about being in the Seattle area. I've read some of the 1 star reviews. They seem to be already having a hard time. But to those that have I suggest giving Swedish Ballard another try. I wouldn't suggest it unless I genuinely believe in it. Hopefully you're next (or first) time in will be as helpful to you as it was to me.

Let's just say I hope they're a little nicer during my testicular exam. I've had enough unhappy women down there in my life.

The clinic is small, cozy, and full of plants and cool vintage decor. The exam rooms themselves have a cozy old school vibe as well. Dr. Bliss had a very calming and kind demeanor, he seems like a person who genuinely enjoys caring for people. Going to the doctor can be a stressful experience, but Dr. Bliss and his partner made it a relaxing one. I'd genuinely look forward to going back! As soon as I walked into the waiting area, I knew I was in for a positive experience. There has been so much attention to detail put into making the space beyond beautiful and welcoming. The waiting area is such a feast for the eyes that it almost makes me sad that there is never a wait to see the doctor! I could happily spend my whole day in there - especially since Laura is so darn friendly and such a warm and lovely conversationalist! Dr. Bliss is equally amicable. He truly takes time to get to know you, listen to all your concerns, and ensure you feel heard. I'm the kind of person who is skittish around doctors due to having been shamed by them in the past for different issues like weight or lifestyle choices. Dr. Bliss approaches patients in a way that is very affirming and positive and I felt totally at ease expressing all my concerns to him. He gave me all the information I needed without any judgement. I had such a great experience here that I immediately established care for my 14yo here too. My kiddo has a lot of anxiety about going to the doctor but he pretty much echoed all the sentiments I've already stated in this review. After his appointment, he talked a lot about how nice Dr. Bliss was and I noticed he wrote "You guys are awesome!" on his exit slip. That's pretty high praise from a kid who allegedly hates going to the doctor! It's so rare to find compassionate country doctor vibes from a clinic inside the city. I will definitely be recommending Dr. Bliss to all my friends!

Her nurses and the doctors were very attentive and communicative throughout and the surgery went well. Unfortunately she has had multiple health issues over the last few years, and with her dementia we weren't surprised when she didn't fully recover from the anesthesia. In the end she passed away, with all of us there. The doctors and nurses were able supportive without being intrusive. It was clear that they cared and were upset that they had somebody under their care pass away. We do not blame them as many might when losing a loved one in a hospital, for we knew that her dementia had just taken so much from her and that in the end we knew she had just decided that she had enough and was ready to move on. Losing your mother is a terrible experience. Explaining to your father who also has dementia that his wife is gone, over and over, is just soul crushing. The staff at UW were very comforting and helpful and of this terrible situation this was the only light that was visible during this tragedy.

This is tough, because how do you rate a hospital where you lose a loved one? Buckle up, this one…read morewill be long... We started off with her in a hospital in a city approx. an hour north of Seattle where they placed her in the ICU awaiting a bed at UW. She was there nearly a week before finally getting a bed. That hospital cared for her, but they really didn't have the resources to manage the depth of the medical trauma she was in and sadly the day she was transferred was the last we ever were able to share communication in a normal capacity. (We did not know things were that bad at this point.) And yes, I'm going to be intentionally vague in some places regarding the medical history. She arrived around 11pm on Thursday. The EMTs called to let us know she safely arrived and that the hospital staff was getting her set up. The following morning we called the number provided to see what time visiting hours were or how that was set up. Once we finally were able to reach a doctor, we were advised she was on a feeding tube and unable to communicate, that things had taken a turn for the worst and we should get there immediately. Why WE had to call them rather than the other way around is wild. We should have been informed of the rapid decline immediately because we would have rushed sooner. We high tailed it to Seattle, parked and entered the construction maze that is Montlake. It's a hike from the parking garage to the ICU and once inside you're asked to wear a mask, a gown, and gloves for patient safety. We met with the attending doctor who explained the decline in condition, how that may have happened and were apologized to regarding the lack of communication. We made it clear whom to contact when and thankfully got that cleared up. Spent the whole day in the ICU and went back to sleep as only one person can stay overnight. The next morning we arrived super early and conditions had worsened. We had the hard conversations with the doctors regarding doing nothing, middle of the road, or aggressive treatment that could potentially make things worse. We asked for middle of the road and received detailed explanation as to what that meant. The following morning we called early to check on her status and were told they pulled her feeding tube. We had NOT agreed to that and were incredibly upset when we arrived. We had 3 different doctors in a private room explaining to us that it was in her best interest, but no real explanation as to why they didn't inform us that was necessary or that it was happening. Again with the lack of communication entirely. This is literally a life and death situation, which is clearly something they experience regularly daily and I'm baffled at the inability to communicate with the living relatives something so critical to share. We stayed late that night so she wouldn't be alone. The nurse told us we could leave because she probably only had hours left and this wouldn't be something we would want to witness. So we said our goodbyes and left expecting to get a call shortly about her passing. The next morning we wake early, no calls had been made. We called the hospital and found out she was still going so we rushed down to spend the day with her. She lived another 24 hours. We're thankful we had that time even though she was not able to see move or communicate with us. It's a heart wrenching place to be in and nobody is having a good time. The doctors and nurses all were very compassionate and take great care of their patients from what we experienced. Our big issue was the lack of communication.
