I traveled over 800 miles and spent more than $1,000 to see a specialist at this clinic in March--desperate for help after a major surgery. I was told to wait until June for a CT scan before they would consider scheduling surgery. I followed every instruction, waited patiently, and when June came, I called seven times in one day trying to get a response. I was ignored repeatedly. When I finally reached someone, I was told I was "not a surgical candidate" without even having the CT scan reviewed. How can any ethical medical professional make that decision without reviewing the imaging or examining the patient? This experience feels like nothing short of an insurance-driven scam. It appears they strung me along until it was no longer financially beneficial for them to take my case. No regard for the pain I'm in, the time I took off work, the travel costs, or the urgency of my condition. I've had HORRIBLE experiences with Orthopedic Physicians Associates. My first surgeon DID THE WRONG SURGERY and cost me six months of my life until they figured out he did the wrong surgery. The next surgeon and his staff are horrifically unable to communicate effectively with me. They don't respond to emails, they don't return calls, they have me repeat myself over and over and over because they never seem to have a clue who I am, they can't figure out how to fill out simple paperwork, and they have cost me MONEY from their lack of professionalism and administrative quality control. The care I received from my doctor, Eva Young, was excellent. She is empathetic, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable. This review, however, is related to the following negative experiences I had with OPA staff: 1. Incorrect medical guidance - I was instructed by a medical assistant to get a CT SPECT scan after asking for a steroid injection to help with pain from a herniated disc in my neck. After the results came in, that same medical assistant admitted she had ordered the wrong type of imaging and told me I actually needed an MRI instead. I brought this to the attention of an office manager, who initially seemed willing to help resolve the issue. Unfortunately, she stopped responding and never followed through. In the end, I was left paying for two scans -- including an unnecessary CT SPECT that cost $9,445. The MRI, the correct scan, was only $572. With a high-deductible insurance plan, being forced to cover such a costly mistake has been extremely upsetting. Patients deserve better accuracy, accountability, and communication than what I experienced here. 2. CPT code discrepancy - I was provided a CPT code prior to scheduling the CT SPECT scan so I could confirm insurance coverage and obtain a cost estimate. The final bill, however, contained entirely different codes, neither of which were disclosed or approved by me, increasing my out-of-pocket expenses significantly. Despite multiple discussions requesting clarity on why I was billed for CPT codes I was never informed of, I've yet to receive a response. As we all know, medical procedures are expensive and as a patient, I did my due diligence by securing a cost estimate based on the code I was given. Someone must be responsible for the fact that additional codes that impacted the cost significantly were added without my knowledge or consent. 3. Lack of communication - Despite repeated outreach to multiple members of the OPA staff including the CEO, I experienced long delays and in some cases no response at all, forcing me to spend countless hours contacting their office, billing departments, and my insurance company to resolve issues that should have been handled internally. After assuring me that she could easily address the financial aspect of my complaint (specifically the unnecessary scan I was charged for), the CEO ultimately stopped responding to my emails. While I greatly value the excellent medical care I received, the administrative handling of my situation fell short of professional standards and OPA should be held accountable for that. read more

I have had some good experiences with the doctors over the past few but I had a recent horrible PRP procedure a few weeks back. Following the procedure the pain level in the injected area got much worse and is still bad a month later. I was given no post procedure instructions and the doctor who performed the injection will not respond to messages. I strongly urge that anyone wanting PRP go to another clinic that has a formalized set of care instructions and doesn't ghost patients. read more

I should have trusted the Yelp reviews. This place is a nightmare. I've had so many problems getting follow-up appointments here. Last minute cancellations are SO common, often happening as you're getting ready to leave and head to the office for the visit. Phone calls go unanswered, and doctors don't really have a sense of compassion or responsibility towards their patients. If you have imaging done, and need a doctor to review it, be prepared to wait a LONG time. They love to brag that they get results within a day. The truth is, you'll be waiting as much as five days... even in intensely painful situations. Today was the final straw. I had a text message telling me yet another appointment was cancelled... and to call them to reschedule. After sitting on hold for a long time, the first available appointment was over a month away... and the person on the phone had no empathy for the situation. Avoid this place. Go somewhere you'll be treated with kindness and respect. read more

Don't schedule with them! Very unprofessional staff! The scheduling supervisor's said to me about Dr. Carrie Wilcox today when she was a no show for my appointment "we never know when she is going to show because she has chronic migraines". My issue is not with Dr. Wilcox but staff. I had waited two months for an appointment, showed up for my appointment today and the teenage girl at the desk said "oops I'm sorry she is not in the office today". When I checked my phone, they had called and left a message 30 minutes prior while I was en route. It took me an hour and twenty minutes in traffic to reach their office. They made little effort to reach me. The supervisor I spoke with made several critical errors. She was rude and she over shared Dr. Wilcox's personal health situation to guilt me into the poor performance excuse for her staff. We have a lot of traffic in the greater Seattle area. With tremendous storm damage getting around is not easy. If the scheduling staff has to cancel appointments they should prioritize people by geographic location. read more

If my surgeon wasn't so amazing & highly recommended I would not have used this provider. Trying to REACH and TALK to a human to just schedule an appointment or discuss a concern or say I'm running late for an appointment is nearly impossible. If I have to speak to someone I have to use their phone system and push buttons like I'm trying to schedule an appointment, then I have to agree to TEXT with someone, add my phone number and the system hangs UP. Eventually I receive a text link. If I can TEXT with a human, why can't I TALK to a human? When I mentioned this to the surgeon's assistant she said it's been brought to management several times. I got an infection in an incision while recovering post surgery & the PA recommended using hydrogen peroxide on it. Luckily I mentioned it to my healthcare provider before I tried this recommendation & avoided it (provider was aghast saying hydrogen peroxide causes tissue damage & scarring). My 5 week post appointment was made by a the surgeon's assistant. Then the day of my appointment, as I was pulling into the Seattle clinic, I got a text RESCHEDULING my appointment WITHOUT my knowledge. The very helpful man at the clinic said this messing with scheduling is being done by an outside entity who doesn't work in the clinic and the staff has brought this to management multiple times due to feedback from frustrated patients. Again, great surgeon, just dealing with the frustration was disappointing. read more

Didn't remember how it happened or the sport I play, very frustrating and then when the bill came even more frustrating. Not worth it. Should've just stuck with the urgent care and worn the brace and left it at that. The review is not a reflection on Dr. Holland as I feel he is a great doctor. Unfortunately, his practice has growth and with growth comes change. I don't recommend OPA because for me there is absolutely no customer care or follow-up. I have been with Dr. Holland for over 25 years, however as great as he is, I am reaching a point that I may need to find a replacement. His staff, in particular, Mira, are very difficult to work with and have never been responsive. The original issue started in September 2024 and after that unfortunate experience it picked back up again in November 2024. To date it is still unresolved. As the patient I am caught in the middle between United Healthcare and Dr. Holland's Care Team. If I call the OPA Care Team, they say they have submitted everything needed to United Healthcare; when I speak with United Healthcare, they tell me they have not received anything from OPA. Over the past several months I have left several messages with Mira for Dr. Hollard to call me, since Mira does not articulate his notes well to me. Dr. Holland did call me back once but has never tried again; I am not even certain he gets my messages to call me. I even spoke with Lauren, Mira's supervisor, to complain about Mira and go over my situation and she flat out told me that I was a liar as to what Dr Holland had told me during my face-to-face visit with him in November, adding that she would not give the message to Dr. Holland to call me back. My current situation is that I wrote an appeal letter to United Healthcare and they responded that they needed more information from Dr. Hollard. I uploaded the United Healthcare request letter to the OPA's PxP portal on Jan 18th. On 1/21 Mira acknowledged the receipt of the Letter from UHC. Over the next several days and after multiple emails and voicemails left for Mira, without a reply, on 1/30 I reached out to the Cara, the Executive Director at OPA, for help but she like Mira elected that the complaint and my situation was not worthy of a call back. Ironically, Mira called me back after my voice mail to Cara and told me Dr. Hollard would setup a call with United Healthcare but could not tell me when that call would occur or when she would follow-up with me. I have left her another email. Where does my situation stand right now... I haven't heard anything back from any member of Dr. Hollard's Care Team. read more

I'm sure Dr Pang is skilled & knowledgable in his field but couldn't be bothered to conduct a satisfactory exam or communicate during it. I visited him for a hand condition that developed. I described the symptoms and showed him my hands. He didn't even look up and rattled off a diagnosis. I naturally asked a couple follow up questions. He barely said anything, and only ventured "just watch it" before getting up to leave. Exam was less than 2 minutes and he hardly made eye contact. He must have noticed my clear disappointment in his lack of providing any info. As we walked out of the exam room he handed me a pre printed sheet full of QR codes with the names of different medical conditions. He circled the one he named as a diagnosis for me to look up the information about it. Yeah, thanks guy. I could have stayed home and Googled it myself. Now that I've looked at other reviews I see that I'm not alone in my experience or impression of him. He may have learned some fancy surgical techniques but he has a lot to learn about being a doctor. read more

I have been visiting Dr. Khalfayan and Dr. Kate at OPA since March this year for a knee injury I had while skiing earlier this year. Their medical assistant Blake is wonderful to work and co-ordinate with. This team of professionals are very kind, knowledgeable and honest about their diagnosis. I got my MRI, X ray and ultra sound done at this location which help nail down the cause of my injury. I always felt I was very well taken care of and was always in safe hands during every visit. It was this same team of professionals who conducted my surgery a few months later at the Seattle Surgery Center. Finding parking here can be a pain but not that tough to find a spot around the block. I highly recommend this group of doctors for all your ortho needs. read more

I have been having knee issues for the past few months and Dr. Carrie Wilcox has been super helpful with finding solutions to my issues. My first meeting, we took a look via an ultrasound and saw I had some cysts coming out of my knee. After my MRI, we talked about different options to aid in the issues. I felt that she took the time to walk me through the different options and did not push me to go one way or another. Afterwards, my knees were killing me again due to a workout session at Orangetheory. So Dr. Wilcox and I took another look. We had another look and came to the conclusion that I probably had Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. I had 50cc's taken out and a corticosteroid shot. My knee feels so much better! I was able to do way more at the gym this morning that I have been in a couple of weeks. A few other notes: - The check-in desk is on the 6th floor - There is plenty of seating and open room - There's a Starbucks on the first floor if you have some time and want a coffee! Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone who is in need of assistance. I will be returning to see Dr. Wilcox if I have any issues in the future. read more

I recently had a tendon-transfer pinky hammer toe surgery with Dr. Nicholas Seibert at OPA Ortho, performed at the Seattle Surgery Center, and by all indications so far, he did an absolutely outstanding job, and so I thought I would post a review. This was a difficult surgery because of the small toe and because of prior surgeries on this toe, and I'm sure the vast majority of toe surgeons wouldn't even attempt it for that reason. So, I'm glad he was willing to do it, and I am very happy it went as he expected. In addition to the great surgical result, I would like to point out that Dr. Seibert has a great personality, is very courteous, understanding, professional, is a good communicator, and as far as I can tell, is extremely talented and competent. He is also a fellowship-trained surgeon and went to a top medical school, so he has all the right credentials. In additional to all that, everyone at OPA Ortho was great, and the Seattle Surgery Center was excellent, and I just can't think of any way anything could have been improved, other than maybe relocating some day to the east side of Lake Washington, so there is less traffic for patients who live further out. My doctor appointments, and surgery was in the afternoon, however, so traffic actually wasn't a problem for me, and the in-building parking garage at both locations is very good. read more

Being Diabetic; he said I had to wait until I reach A1C Level of 7. He would not accept an 8. Being in so much pain; he recommend I take Tylenol or Advil. Something over the counter. He stated a stronger medication was not going to happen bkz I have not had surgery yet. Being a patient of Dr Hormel, prior, and seeing my XRays; Dr Mayeda showed no empathy at all. Also he never returned my calls either. When he finally did; it was around 3 weeks. I found a great Ortho Dr who is accepting my AIC 8 Level and am having surgery next week... read more

One of the worst run businesses in Seattle. They don't answer their phone, they don't return messages, and they don't respond to email, so trying to make, change, or cancel appointments is next to impossible. The departments don't seem to communicate with each other, which leads to a host of other issues, Billing is a disaster. So even if you somehow manage to get through to cancel an appointment, they'll charge a no-show fee and then good luck reaching someone to have the charge removed. The doctors in general are quick to make decisions, extremely risk adverse, and spend the least amount of time with you allowed. They have fallen off the cliff of what was once a stellar practice. I live in Yakima and learned about Dr.Toomey from a friend who had her knee replaced by him. She is a nurse practitioner and spent literally a year researching surgeons for her proceedure. After interviewing friends and collegues, and hours online and on the phone she concluded that Dr. Toomey is the best knee surgeon on the West coast. She may or may not be right, but I trusted her opinion and her experience with Dr. Toomey and had my preliminary visit. He and his staff and associates are courteous and professional and explained the proceedure and my options thoroughly. The real selling point to me was the recovery time. I have a pretty vigorous job and lifestyle and in Yakima had been told that MAYBE I could go back to work in three months. Dr. Toomey said that a six week recovery was a reasonable timeline. I had to do both knees (months apart) and taking six month off work in a year was not possible. Fast forward, had the surgery, everything went great, range.of motion is incredible. My recovery shocked my physical therapists and I was ready to return to work at five weeks (but stayed out six). The improvement in pain and function is spectacular and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience. I'm getting my next knee done in a week and will check back later to say how that went. My son was getting bad care and horrible communication elsewhere so I called here for a second opinion for him. Granted I waited awhile on the phone to talk to someone as times are tough and that's ok. Then Nichole answered the phone and what a delight she was. Nichole listened to me and my situation, got all the information, gathered all his records and found his info in the system. It's very unfortunate and beyond frustrating that this otherwise good healthcare provider has completely destroyed their front end customer experience! If you've called them recently, you'll find their "new phone system" provides the absolute worst experience. Currently been on hold an hour and #1 in queue for 30 minutes. Last time I called this happened and the person I finally reached was incompetent. I encourage any of the Dr.'s who are placing their practices and reputations in the care of this phone system to call as a normal patient and try to schedule anything. Whoever set this up should go immediately and the practice should spend whatever they need on personnel and tech to fix it right away. I am an 87-year-old male that had my first knee replaced by Dr. Toomey in 2021 and the second in 2022. The results are amazing allowing me to continue my passions of skiing, hiking and mountain climbing. Every Friday I hike with a group which I used to lead. Three weeks ago, we hiked 13.4 miles climbing 3600'. There was no pain, and I did not take any medication; stiffness the next day was minimal. Dr Toomey and his team are highly skilled, blessed in my opinion, but are realistic in what is expected from the patient for a successful result. Nothing but good things to say about OPA Ortho! In the last 18 months, I've had both knees replaced by Dr. Sean Toomey...was just done not being able to play squash and golf without pain. Happy to say that I am back on the squash court (pandemic restrictions permitting...grrr), and feeling 20 years younger. Can't wait to get my golf clubs out and walk the hilly Pacific Northwest courses again this spring. In the last 15 years, I've had 11 surgeries with four different surgeons at OPA...every one of them has gotten me back into the games I love and just living my life again. Woohoo! read more

After today, I will no longer be a patient of this practice and Dr. Khalfayan, and I caution others to seek care with another business. Preferably one that actually values their patients and makes any attempt to prioritize them. I am a veterinarian and can say that none of the patients I encounter are ever treated in the ways described below. For appts. I must take an entire sick day from work, driving over an hour each way to attend. Today I hit a minor delay before leaving, so while en route I called to ask if they would still take me despite being about 10 minutes late, but for an entire hour they did not answer the phone! When I arrived to the office 10 minutes late, there was a gigantic line, which took an additional 10-15 minutes to process. I was told it was too far past the grace period and they could not make any exceptions to still see me after pleading my case, so I was turned away. This is despite their inability to answer the phone, and inability to process a line of people promptly! I should mention that in prior appointments with them the wait time has been as long as 45 minutes after being checked in. What does this say to the patient? That OPA Ortho can perform terribly at their job, but as a patient you aren't allowed to suck even a little or you get kicked out. The arrogance is palpable. Immediately after my knee surgery, I had an area of extreme (10/10 pain) on my upper thigh that was not expected. I called in on an urgent basis, but did not hear back from anyone for 48 hours and it was only the medical assistant not one of the doctors. That is egregiously long to hear back for a serious post operative concern! I had undue amounts of emotional stress over this issue given its unknown nature, in addition to the terrible pain. It turned out that the tourniquet was too tight on my thigh and caused unnecessary trauma. It continued to be intensely painful for over a day. When I saw Dr. Khalfayan for a checkup appointment he seemed rather unconcerned that it even happened! Very poor marks for a medical establishment, and quite frankly they are lucky I have not pursued malpractice claim against them for it. Around 8-9 days post-op I had a sudden new intense painful swelling of my knee, which is not something I had been briefed on to expect (they generally said swelling should peak around days 3-5). This was concerning (for things like a potential infection) so I called in to the office after hours line early morning and spoke with a consulting Doctor who wasn't sure so they said they'd have Dr. Khalfayan's team call me back with instructions. I didn't hear back for the entire business day. I called first thing the next day but didn't hear from anyone until after the office had closed. So from the time of my original call to speaking with someone who could address the issue it was over 36 hours. About 3 weeks post-op, I had symptoms potentially consistent with a blood clot (thrombosis) including increased pressure in my knee and a very cold foot. This is something that requires rapid assessment as thromboses can become very serious and/or life threatening. When I called in to report the concern early morning, I didn't hear back from the office until almost the end of the day, when they advised that I should be seen immediately. Given how late it was I had no choice but to go to the emergency room, where I incurred enormous fees. If they had responded in a reasonable time frame, I could have potentially been seen in their office the same day, which would have been the best and most affordable place to be seen. Lastly, their billing department also seems to be incapable of correctly sending a claim with all the surgery charges to my insurance with the $5,500 that I paid upfront (out of pocket) for bone marrow injection included. The goal is to have my insurance review the bone marrow procedure to see if they might cover it, but insurance will deny the procedure if not sent as a batch claim with the other CPT codes. I have repeatedly requested they do this, but it still has not occurred. Throughout my pre and post-op appointments Dr. Khalfayan has demonstrated that he has absolutely no interest in how meniscal injuries occur. When asked about how my injury might have occurred, what biomechanics might have been contributory, how I bear weight, what muscles might be weak, etc., his response was simply "It's probably just bad genetics". Seriously? How does one become a specialist without having a better grasp of how the disease process is occurring (aka pathophysiology), so that they can work with patients to help prevent future reinjury?! It seems like a no-brainer that this should be part of what he covers with patients. Instead, he only has an interest in fixing things once they go bad. As a doctor myself I can't imagine having such a short-sighted view/understanding of a condition that I am treating. I truly hope for his patients' sake that he does better in the future in this regard. read more

I'm 73 years old and have had knee issues since I was 18. I had a right knee cleanup from Dr. Sean Toomey in 2016. It worked well but by 2021 it was clear I needed a total replacement. Dr. Toomey and his highly professional staff provided exceptional care at every juncture. The surgery went well, as expected. With a spinal and light anesthetic I was able to do it as an outpatient. Surgery at 10 a.m., Walking the halls with help by 1 p.m., eating a cheeseburger on the drive home by 5 p.m.. Pain control was excellent. After 4 days the local anesthetic pump ran out of juice and I was able to easily remove the nerve catheter. The only time I needed anything stronger than acetaminophen was for sleeping, and that was only for two or three nights. I used crutches on the first day only. I was able to walk comfortably without a cane within 7 days, although I did continue to use it outside for a bit over 2 weeks. I was riding my e-bike short distances again 3 weeks post surgery and achieved my range of motion goal in just over a month. I was generally careful to follow the recommendations of my physical therapists although I tended to push myself a bit more than they liked. I was originally scheduled in for 3 months of weekly sessions but they cut me loose after about 8 weeks. I'm now 4 months out and, while some minor stiffness remains, the new knee is probably the best joint in my body. I can't say enough about the quality of care I received from Dr. Toomey and his staff at OPA, nor could I be happier about the outcome. read more

It was my lucky day when I was referred to Dr Snitly and then referred to Dr. Matson Ko for total knee replacement surgery. The offices ran very well. I always checked in early and always got in early to my appointment. The day of the actual surgery was a major snowstorm. The whole surgical staff was dedicated enough to make it in to complete their scheduled surgeries. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Matson Ko, my recovery has been absolutely amazing and I know a large percentage of that have to do with her surgical skill. read more

No respect for patient's time. They do not seem to understand that people rearrange their lives to make appointments. Last minute cancellations about 50%. Location is already a hassle to get to but then to arrive and be told that your appointment has been cancelled, again... for the umpteenth time. I am sure that I am not the only person who is owed more than just a heartless apology for all the time they have wasted. OPA, if you don't plan on showing up just say so. I know that when people read rants they just think that some angry person is spouting off. Really really really consider this before engaging with OPA, there is about a 99% chance you will experience the same thing. I noticed that there are other folks here with similar "complaints".
