I have a distribution route that runs past the pizza peel on a biweekly basis, it has always caught my eye so when I asked the locals about it nobody had bad things to say they just mentioned that it was in the basement, I was sold I had to go I was a party of wine since I was at work however they do have more than pizza on the menu I ordered an I talion beef wrap if I remember correctly and it was phenomenal! The staff was great and when I mentioned the Decour they were pretty excited to be talking to me about it, even more excited when they found out I have a small back ground in antique international tractors. If you are 40 minutes away I highly recommend taking the trip; if you know you will be passing by I also highly recommend it as well. read more

Pizza joint in the basement. No windows. Be careful walking down those long steps to this place, I've almost wiped out a time or two. Salads are huge. Thin crust pizza is awesome with lots of cool toppings to choose. Not many dining choices in this small town, so this is often our go-to. They serve tap and bottled beer. read more

We found this place on Yelp! With pretty good reviews and decided to give it a try. I am mostly vegan and my wife suggested that most other cafes and restaurants would be meat based, so we came here. Located in the basement of the building it has a wonderful atmosphere and layout. My wife had a small ham and green olive on hand tossed crust, and I had the pizza of the month, a Reuben, on hand tossed. For the record, mine had thousand island dressing as the base, vegan cheese and sauerkraut, I left the corned beef off. Service was great and friendly. Pricing wasn't bad at all either. read more

FYI: it's in the basement, not upstairs, when you go in the entrance. It smells wonderful walking down and it was definitely packed for a town that looked practically empty. The staff was very helpful in showing me how the menu worked. I ordered a thin crust to go and it wasn't a very long wait. Pizza was fabulous. Cheese was good, sauce was very flavorful, toppings were fresh and the crust was just the way we like it. Overall: would visit again if I'm ever back that way. read more

Driving through and stumbled upon this yelp loved pizza joint. Upon entry there is an old timey feel and pleasant aroma of fresh dough. 2 o'clock on a Tuesday didn't greet us with many other patrons, except for a couple and the wait staff getting a chance for their own lunch. The place and restrooms were clean and had cool old tractor parts as decor. The chick, bacon, ranch had too much ranch bit is still worth coming back. We live in Peoria but drive here whenever we can. This pizza is so good. They start with dough they make...nothing frozen here. Place was packed on this Friday night. But we still got a seat right away. The cheese bread is good, basically a small cheese pizza with the sauce on the side. I ordered the kitchen sink...which is basically every topping on one pizza. Delicious. I prefer the hand tossed crust, the perfect combination of crust, toppings, and sauce. I have never tried the thin. I appreciate the gluten free option...but I know those crusts are bought and not made on site. We don't drink alcohol there only because of the drive home after...so I can't comment on that. Drove an hour from Geneseo upon the recommendation of my sister in law, who lives nearby. First of all, the place is a very comfortable restaurant... nice wood and quaint decor. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon about 2, so not crowded. But waitress and young guy in kitchen were both friendly and helpful. Ordered "Dylan Bread" for an appetizer, which is a great opener-- the crust fantastic, with cheddar and bacon. We then ordered a half and half 14" pie with the hand tossed crust. One half the Hawaiiaan-- with great ham and cream cheese (unique and wonderful), the other half the Bacon Cheeseburger. Ingredients fresh and delicious. Again, the crust was great... service wonderful and very reasonably priced. read more

Fabulous food, wonderful atmosphere, service lacking horribly.... The Peel is our go-to pizza place. The food is always great and it's different (in a good way) from other pizza places in the area. We love the fact it's close(r) to home but lately have just been ordering carry out because the service is really lacking each time we dine-in. Rather the place is booming or we're the only customers around we've ran into the same problems again and again---waiting forever to be seated, forgotten drinks, lost waitresses, lack of refills, and even cold pizza from sitting on the counter too long. The magic of the business happens in the back....and gets lost in transition on it's way to the table. I wasn't a bit surprised when I read the previous review of the waitress putting up a fight. I'm in love with the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza and the BBQ feast. I'd also recommend the Hawaiian to anyone that normally likes that flavor. My husband continues to go back for the calzones and raves each time. We've also been known to order the Carnivore's Delight---which is good for your meat lover---and we've tried the Italian Beef Pizza---which is a different twist. The salads are fresh and not your typical cheap-o iceberg lettuce. The Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich is also very good. But I do wish they'd cut down on the salt on their flat bread. We'll continue to carry out from the Pizza Peel but it's getting harder to spend the extra money on drinks and tips when their service is continuously "meh" at best. I hope they turn that around because they really have a great thing going! read more

My families new favorite for thin crust pizza. Finally made it out to Lacon for this amazing pizza. We live in Peoria so it's a little bit of drive, but was definitely worth it. In addition to the pizza, we ordered the Dylan which is cheesy bread sticks with bacon. Soooo good. If you're from the Peoria area, you really need to make the drive and check this place out. P.S. Some of the best pizza I've ever had. The staff is so welcoming to my family, family friends, and anyone else we drag 40 minutes out there to go try it. The only bad thing is to access the restaurant, there's stairs to walk down, but it's worth it. The "dylan" appetizer will completely change your life because of how well the toppings go with the cheesy garlic bread. I really don't like giving small businesses a less than 5-star review. However, we've never had an outstanding experience here, and our most recent was bad. We came in early on a Friday night; it wasn't even busy yet. Kitchen was fully staffed, with 80% being apathetic teenagers who didn't want to be there. When our order came to us, half of it was incorrect. No apologies; we were simply told they'd make another one, which took 20 minutes. In the meantime, the correct half of the order sat until it was cold. When we checked out, the teen at the register didn't speak or even make eye contact with me. Just held her hand out for the ticket and credit card. To avoid inconveniencing the staff here, we'll take our money to another pizza joint next time. read more

Very much a locally owned family type business. It's a very cute shop located in a basement of a downtown building. BBQ chicken pizza is awesome and I can't get enough of the cheese bread with marinara! Bathrooms are very clean. I like how the kitchen is exposed so you can kind of see what's going on. Prices aren't bad for speciality pizza either. I took one star away from the lack of professionalism the staff has. I understand that it's a small town family joint, but sheesh wash your hands after you chase after customers' children and then serve me food. This is a very good restaurant. It is not too busy and a quick stop. The pizza is delicious and they have various sizes of pizza. The green pepper I had on my pizza was not all shriveled up and weird like if you were to bake it at home- it is in between crunchy and not. Our first time there and we were extremely impressed!!! They offer some different types of pizza toppings besides the usual ones. We had a Mediterranean pizza that was delicious! We also tried the apple and cherry calzones--something we had not had before. We literally were scraping the pan clean to get every last bit! The salads were fresh and crisp. Even the iced tea was excellent. Could not have had a more positive experience! Our server was Jenna K and she friendly and efficient.
