We go to the pizza joint on Mesa near the university and find that it is the best we've had . The dough is crusty but still chewable and tasty, fresh vegetables ( we usually have green bell peppers added along with/pepperoni and cheese). Service is excellent and employees will assist you in placing extra cheese, red pepper, paper plates, and napkins in your car . They are very appreciative of a decent tip. Some people described this place as being legit NY style pizza. I beg to differ. Hear me out. While the crust, construct, and so forth are all really good, this isn't *quite* NY style pizza, per se. It actually reminds me more of the thin brick oven style pizza served at Cafe Italia, but without the brick oven and without the slightly charred crust some of us know and love. Also, traditional NY style tends to have a slightly thicker crust that is foldable. But, I digress. With that said, I tried two different flavors of pizza to get an idea of what works (for me), what doesn't work, and what I'll ultimately be coming back for. As you can see in the photos, I tried the pepperoni and Margherita pizzas. While both were decent, I actually prefer the Margherita pizza over the pepperoni. The main reason being....that sauce. The tomato sauce (which was on the pepperoni) has a slightly sweet taste to it. Which, while some folks probably enjoy this, tastes a bit off to me when it comes to using it on pizza. I almost felt like I was eating a lasagna. The Margherita pizza has no sauce, but DOES have real roasted tomato slices. These are more than sufficient enough to accommodate the overall pizza flavor. Not to mention, these pizzas reheat quite well in the oven....in case you live a trillion miles away from the west side like I do. Clearly, if I were to revisit this place, I'd go for the Margherita pizza. I'm certainly down for trying out some wings next time around. The original plan was to try a few different slices, but since they were pretty expensive individually we decided to go with a whole pie. So I have been to all the pizza joints in el Paso and have been a big supporter and promoter of this local spot but after this truly bad experience I know I will never go back to the n. Mesa location! I might possibly never go to any others as well! The problem is this place has seemed to have gotten so big and popular they have neglected the customer and basic customer service skills. And based on other reviews I see here, I'm not alone, the staff seemed to be a couple of bitter, teen-angst behaving 20 somethings, who hate their job and their customers. So on Friday at 6:03 my credit card time stamped the transaction, but the order itself was placed at 6. I ordered 1 large pepperoni pizza, and 4 drinks nothing else. The young man at the register stated it would be 30 minutes. 40 minutes goes by and still no order, and a large family who ordered after me receives their order. 7 minutes later a Male staff member comes running out and slaps the pizza on the table and heads back to the kitchen, when I tell him this was no 30 min pizza and he gives me a smug, mad face and says, "yeah it is, it's only been 30 minutes," in an angry tone. I immediately get up to the register and ask for a manager and another young man gets up to the register and claims to be the manager, I quickly advise him of the situation and show him the time stamp credit card transaction to show it's been longer than 30 minutes. He then tells me its only been like 5 minutes longer. I guess he doesn't know basic math, so I tell him who is the owner of this establishment he gives me a incorrect name and tells me I can go to Yelp or google and put a review if I'm not happy. So here we are, thanks bud, I made sure to do that and I'll make sure to talk to the owner, I got the correct name and information now. So at this time my pizza was cold and my guests were upset about the experience and pizza, I didn't even bother to eat, I was just disappointed and disgusted. I take a few pictures and immediately a woman comes to me and claims to be the general manager and I advise her the situation, she apologizes and was nice but does nothing, nothing got resolved. She seemed to be acting like she was in charge, but had no real authority or experience and seemed to try to sway me from taking further action. The pizza sauce is definitely a star, it's very flavorful and elevates the entire pizza. You can tell they use good quality fresh ingredients for their topping! It's happened 3 times (today being the third) that I purchase a side of ranch and I get home and there is no ranch. This is a great place for pizza. We really enjoy having the option of trying a slice instead of purchasing the whole pie. The pizza "joints" are very delicious too. We've been here on three different occasions, and it was very good on all three visits. The only drawbacks is there is not a whole lot of seating, and delivery is within only a two mile radius of the Westside location. The food is good and fairly priced.
